This man would go to sci-fi conventions to screen animes he imported from Japan, which gathered a small following. Some of the anime viewers ended up being interested in his furry drawings as well, and things kinda took off from there.

I'm not gonna lie, probably one of the most interesting characters The internet had probably created. If you're taking consideration that this is not a persona but more or less of a character that wasn't mostly inspired to create conversation amongst people on the internet, It has to be the most brilliant social experiment ever created. And I'm speaking from the point of view of somebody who's been on deviantart for some time, many people create personas based on their fetishes, based on their personal views on life and probably sometimes it's just the way that they like to view themselves to avoid the harsh realities of what they really look like (not that there's anything wrong with that), however this ...um...furry god...is completely different considering his original purpose.

If your character is intelligent, kind and creative, but the character's autism and anxiety outweighs the positive traits, I'm not sure how compelling this character would be. It may be relatable to some people, but to most, it may come across as an irritating mess. I guess I would have to see the execution.

Slight historical inaccuracies about it's history has transformed the tower from being an old windmill (as marked on maps from the day the structure was still in use for grinding up grain) to being a military tower of some kind which has lead to nonsensical claims about the knights templar fleeing to America and building sites like the cliff dwelling ruins of the Anasazi.

During this occupation, Japanese people started to take an interest in American cartoons. This interest eventually lead lead to the creation of a domestic animation market in japan (anime). At some point in the 1970s, there was a guy who really liked drawing furry stuff, but he didn't know anyone else who did. This man would go to sci-fi conventions to screen animes he imported from Japan, which gathered a small following. Some of the anime viewers ended up being interested in his furry drawings as well, and things kinda took off from there.

I gotta be honest, a Forrest Gump type novel/tv series/movie about an all powerful chaotic neutral deity having the power to control the course of humanity sounds amazing

I feel like the timeframe in which the character was made definitely matters a lot! If he made this character when he was younger, he might've been all for there self-insert aspect, but then got older and just liked the character _as_ a character.

I'm not gonna lie, probably one of the most interesting characters The internet had probably created. If you're taking consideration that this is not a persona but more or less of a character that wasn't mostly inspired to create conversation amongst people on the internet, It has to be the most brilliant social experiment ever created. And I'm speaking from the point of view of somebody who's been on deviantart for some time, many people create personas based on their fetishes, based on their personal views on life and probably sometimes it's just the way that they like to view themselves to avoid the harsh realities of what they really look like (not that there's anything wrong with that), however this ...um...furry god...is completely different considering his original purpose.
That artwork of the god looking into the mirror and seeing his creator makes me think he was to some extent a persona or power fantasy. I think the more he commissioned art for the character the more it took on a life of its own.

Self insert characters have existed in media for centuries. Typically, they are empowering. Someone you could identify with and be inspired by. Granted, the success of these characters has varied wildly between tellings, but why would you want to self-insert as "an autistic, anxious wreck"?
@Digicraftmon the Crystal Gem Making a character flawed is not quite the same as "an autistic, anxious wreck". Your self insert sounds more like a side character, rather than a main character. Nothing wrong with that. You can advise or hinder the main character from the sidelines.
If your character is intelligent, kind and creative, but the character's autism and anxiety outweighs the positive traits, I'm not sure how compelling this character would be. It may be relatable to some people, but to most, it may come across as an irritating mess. I guess I would have to see the execution.
