The first double stop he is showing us is really an E chord in the simple D chord shape moved to the fourth fret. If you learn the various chord shapes and move them around the fret board, you can expand your soloing ability.
When I figured out the opening part of the 'I Love A Rainy Night' solo was when I really started using this technique more. It opens with a great example of this type of playing where he starts with the bass root note of his scale, and runs it all the way up the neck. I don't even remember what key it's in now, but I figured I could just go "Plus 2 frets two times' from my root note, then jump it up to the next string, sometimes hitting two strings together to make it feel more full/different. But the lead part of that Eddie Money classic really helped me get this technique on lock. Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam also makes nice use of some of those double stops, and is a pretty easy way to grasp it.
Thanks, well explained, good video & sound. I will pass this on to friends who can play chords but don't know how to step up to single note lines. Much appreciated.
@TJ-Dives My suggestion is for everyone to watch the "Outlander" series a couple of times. The wife and I have watched it enough to almost understand fluent "all Scot" accent. 😄👍✌️
Greetings ! Thank you and you explained it all very well. Nice fingering for a major pentatonic scale. Where the double stop is in E , I could hear the melody for Norwegian Wood in there.
Im one of the guys that's had a guitar 20 years. I watch lots of RUclips guitar videos. I try it get lost then put the guitar down after 5 mins cos my brain just won't let me progress. I literally tried what you just taught me and it has opened up a whole new understanding for me. I'm actually going all over the frets now which I've never been able too. Awesomeeeeee. And guess what? I'm Scottish also 🏴
I had a guitar teacher tell me this idea was wrong. I definitely ran into professional guitar players who use this idea. I feel like that one guitar teacher slowed me down years ago. One piece of advice I felt broke me away from bad advice is if it sounds good it isn't wrong.
Dang I actually got some of it down. Love your accent, Dad was from Bristol, Mom from Sandbank. As a newbie this resonates with me. Pun intended. Cheers from Sandy Eggo
Just a comment hopefully to help. I teach and I think that if you just explained what a"shape" is and maybe a bit more about how changing the fret location ie: 7th fret and so on, I find that the student relates better. I usually use the A shape and show how that by moving it changes the key. Just my preference but I think it gives the student a wider understanding of the chord changes and their relationship with a chord structure for a song but good on you with your lesson. 😅
Well taught. Just found you. I already know this as I’ve played for over 30 years - a lot of it professionally as a songwriter primarily. You have a very pleasant demeanour… God bless you and keep up the great work. 🫶✌️♾️. 🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸🏴 🎸👨🏼⚕️Roctor😊
THANK YOU! Wonderful help!!!!!! So appreciated! This would be absolutely useful for a couple of Pink Floyd songs-I could imagine! Also kinda reminds of The Band style. Ooh!
i am digging this TRICK, it took a couple of hours to get it to STICK but now I will never forget this LICK. what other tricks do you have up your sleeve?
wish you would have used that in a complete "sentence" meaning how could it be used in real life in a song. Thanks Tony, I enjoy your videos but I would like to see how to use in real time. Hope I made sense.
lol. that's a little bit like asking the meaning of life - YOU are the answer. but, if you listen closely, you might hear whispers of little wings and other things.😀
How's it going Tony? Nice little ditty. I see you have a Fender amplifier on the floor. Is it an older model? I have a Fender Mustang 25 watt, that's alright for a modeler but out of 50 presets I only use a couple. I bought a little 5watt tube amplifier from Monoprice that's good for apartment playing.

Definitely. Learning different chord 'voicings' was key for me becoming a better player, too.
Having been playing for just over a week, i half understand what you mean.
Having
strummed for 40 years ,stil learning.

I keep expecting him to start playing 500 miles.
😂
I would walk 500 more.
Just to be the mahn

Brilliant stuff. You explain & demonstrate so well. I'm an older beginner & with practice this in steps slowly until I can speed up. Much appreciato 👍
That’s great to know! Thanks for commenting my friend 🤘
Two songs immediately came to mind in this demonstration: Aimee by Pure Prairie League, and The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix.
I love both of those.
Fantastic. A revelation to a 73 year old drummer. So easy, so logical, so moveable
This helped me so much. Had a blast playing around for this all evening.
Brilliant just what I need to move me up a step from just chord strumming. And so we’ll explained and demonstrated. Thankyou …. I’ll be back 👍
Thanks for this great little lesson. I've been playing a lot of electric guitar but you made me want break out the Martin and dust it off.
This lesson made a lot of sense, once I turned the CC on.
😂
I see what you did there
AIN'T IT JUST AIN'T IT 😜 lols
If you have watched the "Outlander" series a couple of times, you understand the accent perfectly 👌 😊
Sorry that you are so wimpy..

Nicely done...thanks Tony

Your teaching style is awesome! I’ll be looking for some of your advanced acoustic courses.
As a guitarist, you have to be able to play a soulful major blues so that your listeners fall in love with you. Most important lesson of all.
Actually you dont.
I look forward to learning from you. Thank you so very much. Gary
Dang I actually got some of it down. Love your accent, Dad was from Bristol, Mom from Sandbank. As a newbie this resonates with me. Pun intended. Cheers from Sandy Eggo
You didnt ramble at all! You are unlocking magic!!!!

Hi Tony, I just subscribed on youtube and like the E Chord trick lesson. Is there a tab for it? I tend to work better with tabs
The sound of that guitar certainly is awesome, what brand is it?
Thank you, sir.
