  • What is mica? Mica is a mineral with a layered or platy structure. Due to its pearl shimmer and good electrical conductivity, it is used by different industries in various products: in cars, mobile
phones, computers, household appliances as well as in cosmetics. What is the dark side of this shiny mineral? In two words: child exploitation. We delve deeper into this issue in this short documentary

India 🪷 doesn't tend to care about temporary problems like the happiness of the living population and focuses more one permanent national strength, usually for the next BS crisis it has to deal with.
Besides, problems like these will inevitably whither away with India's urbanisation trend reducing competition among rural workers.

This is what happens when people want anything, whether its materials for phones and paint, or oil to run their cars and electricity. When people get established outside of poverty, in the middle class they want actual goods and they dont want to have to die in the mines to get them, so other people die in the mines, those that dont have the luxury of asking for a minimum wage and safety protocols like those in the west that make it so people dont have to die horribly so you can get your phone but make it so that companies who are looking for profits move elsewhere.
The only real options are, stop buying these products or make it so that people in the west have the same conditions as developing nations to get businesses to even bother. I doubt most of these places are willing to put in place the same regulations as us because they will lose the opportunity they see in these exploitative systems

@Faith Armstrong obliging companies to invest in building minimum wages and security within miners.

    • @sookendestroy1
      @sookendestroy1 Год назад

@Faith Armstrong here's the problem with that and it's the same one that drove these unregulated practices to these places in the first place. Companies take advantage of these labour conditions to get resources at dirt cheap levels as doing so in their own regions is too expensive in part due to regulations, minimum wages etc, so in order to dodge that they import from places willing to ignore them. So as say Madagascar regulates out child labor, dangerous mining conditions and unregulated mining then these companies will just move on to the next place and start again. Unfortunately that's just the nature of seeking exponential profit above all else.
The only way you could get around that is by nationalizing these industries but even then all it takes is the wrong party in power and then these practices return anyways as austerity measures.

Some of these children are forced to work to eat so banning them from doing so creates other problems. The world is such a shitty place for some it's hard for the Western world to understand the idea that you work or starve. Had conversations about this in the past and I have no solutions. There is not enough money in the area to save these children from starving and what there is, is not used wisely.

      Really. 😅
The real shock was to see a movement for human rights like BLM being turned into a new franchise to sell stuff.
But the problem is that we westerners focus more on our shame rather than on what we can do if we had the morality fiber and the will to produce changings that are significant.
And unfortunately right now some if not almost all of these poor countries have matured a distrust set of feelings about west that brings them to form their own alliances or to rely on Russia (a country ked by a man that just see everything's else as a tool to power up Russia itself) instead of trying new ways to rise up and deal with us.
But its comprehensible and understandable since major western powers up to this date had just few goals when it came to deal with these countries: exploit whatever its possible and keep these countries in a state of vassalage towards west.
Now things are changing a bit, with European countries that are moved by necessity both material and moral, to deal with countries rich of resources and to do it in terms of equality.
We Italians have tried and succeded in such goal when it came for the russian gas crisis. Not only that, but it is in our precise interests to help African countries to become stronger and by that acquiring strong allies on the continent to secure, stabilize and strenghten our economic bounds and relationships.
Both will benefit from this, and since we are treat them as equals, providing jobs and money and cooperating with their "armed forces" (right now they are not able to perform complex defense, but we are working on it) they are maturing a new sense of trust and respect. Over than recovering from the difficult situation where they are.
It will still require years to fully fulfill the goals, but at leadt for now we put the basis for a peaceful and prosper future for both sides.
And I think America and the rest of Europe should follow this example.
We can't simple just look at what will happen to them with stuff like climate changing ongoing.
We have to heal each others. Or it will be the end for all.
