  • The future of Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier remains shrouded in uncertainty, with manager Eddie Howe admitting he cannot offer any guarantees that the England international will still be at St James' Park beyond the end of the summer transfer window.
Despite expressing his desire to retain Trippier's services, Howe conceded that "it's football and the window is always unpredictable," leaving the door ajar for potential suitors to make their move for the 33-year-old right-back.
Trippier, who has been heavily linked with a return to former club Everton as well as interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray, is believed to have put his Northumberland home up for sale in a move that has only fueled speculation over an imminent Tyneside departure.
However, Howe was quick to reiterate the defender's importance to the Newcastle squad, lauding his "professionalism" and insisting he has played a "huge role in changing the narrative around the team" since arriving from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.
While Trippier may have lost the captain's armband to Bruno Guimarães and found himself temporarily displaced by the impressive Tino Livramento, the Magpies boss dismissed suggestions of a rift, stressing: "It's not that big a deal internally."
As the clock ticks down to the September 1st transfer deadline, Newcastle find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes transfer tussle on multiple fronts. Howe also provided an update on the club's long-running pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, revealing "there's still work going on behind the scenes" as they seek to thrash out a deal for the £65 million-rated centre-back.
With defensive cover and a new right-winger also believed to be high on Howe's wishlist, the former Bournemouth manager admitted this has been "the most difficult window I've experienced," bemoaning the "very small pool of players" and fierce competition from rival clubs.
For the Newcastle faithful, the prospect of losing a talismanic figure like Trippier will undoubtedly be a bitter pill to swallow. But with Howe refusing to rule out a departure, and the player himself taking steps that suggest an openness to a new challenge, the Toon Army could be forced to brace themselves for a dramatic finale to an already tumultuous summer on Tyneside.
