  • In this video I take a look at a bunch of double box end, combination, and flare nut wrenches from Asahi Tool of Japan. I have a few other wrenches already from Asahi and I liked them, so I thought I’d get some more of their offerings and share my first impressions here.

    I have some ASH wrenches that were my dad's in the 80's. Or possibly old as late 70's. They have that same type of finish.

    • @BrandoDamo
      @BrandoDamo  2 года назад

      That’s awesome. I’ve been surprised to come across Ash wrenches here and there in different industrial settings.

      @@BrandoDamo my dad was an auto mechanic from the earlier 70's until about 2003. He was in the army during mid 70's and again during the early 80's. Spent time stationed in Germany. If I was to guess he either got them from us military supplied tools or from somewhere selling tools on base. All of his tools from that era are sorta together. I actually first realized that Japan made good quality tools by finding random ones in his collection. Stuff from ktc and ash mostly. But I know he has some others. I think one is buffalo brand. Have Japan made line wrenches from them. Also ones made by ktc but are marked "industrial". I have been seeing how nice modern Japanese tools are. Going to order some soon.

    They're a satin finish... very nice...👍
    I don't have much use for SAE tools.. most thing these days, even in the US are Metric ...but if you have lawn equipment or a snowblower and old school vehicles you need some SAE tools....

    • @BrandoDamo
      @BrandoDamo  3 года назад

      Still a few US companies clinging to SAE, and then like you said, you need it for working on old iron.

    Picked up 1 Aigo and 5 Asahi sae CPX series from Ebay. I dont need sae much but will try to have a complete Japan set. Getting ready to order renowave soon. Debating where to get it from. Nice haul!

      I thought about getting a vintage Aigo set of SAE combination wrenches but I can’t remember the last time I needed inch. It would be nice to have though just in case. I had a really hard time getting these double box and wrenches, so I can’t really recommend a place to get them. Unless Amazon Japan has them now, they’re always great.

      @@BrandoDamo One thing that needs to be addressed about Made in Japan tools is that most manufacturers do offer SAE. Tone, KTC, Asahi and Koken have SAE. They are harder to find in Amazon Japan. Many interested people think is only metric stuff. The only way to know for sure is to look at the specific manufacturer online catalog.

    日本語上手! Ok, meme but still funny. I am also considering these wrenches but also the KTCs...

      ありがとう!15% of my views are from Japan, so I gotta show them some love! 😂 I just got some KTC wrenches (the really long double box ends & some of their ratcheting wrenches). I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. Stay tuned and I’ll show them together to help in your decision!

    Asahi is a sharp looking tools with exelant finish.
    Can they be purchased on amazon.jp?
    Great and informative review.

      Thank you! There are some Asahi items on Amazon Japan, but they are not organized well on the site. These flare nut wrenches in this video were purchased on Amazon Japan individually, but the double box end, and combination sets were not on Amazon and were harder for me to acquire.

    Good set of wrenches, I, personally, use Wright but most of my work is SAE and on older industrial equipment.

    • @BrandoDamo
      @BrandoDamo  3 года назад +1

      There’s definitely still a lot of machinery out there that uses SAE. In my personal projects I virtually never need them though. I have a few Wright sockets laying around from my Grandpa!

    How do the length of these wrenches compare to craftsman raised panel wrenches or even a snap on wrench?

    • @BrandoDamo
      @BrandoDamo  3 года назад

      Similar length to the raised panel craftsman. Pretty standard not long, not short.
