      This form of singing in Ireland has existed for well over a thousand years. It's call Sean-nós. Only difference from that time is that it would have been sung in Irish (Gaelic), not English.

Good rest his brave soul and all the men who fought during the 10 years of war and struggle in Ireland from 1913-1824. Brave men and true🧤🫶

    Sinéad O'Connor's haunting vocals on "She Moved Through the Fair" underscore the senseless tragedy of the climactic scene in Neil Jordan's 1996 film "Michael Collins" at Béal na mBláth in County Cork, where the title character was cruelly ambushed and killed by some of the very same IRA gunmen he once commanded in battle with the British. It's a shame that O'Connor's notoriety and self-generated controversy has often overshadowed her unique talents as a singer. I sincerely hope later generations will come to appreciate her better than my own.

    • @dsddala467
      @dsddala467 11 месяцев назад +1

      One person's "self-generated" controversy is another person's truth. She was NOT wrong about the Pope, as we now know, after the church in many countries have paid out millions to people who were abused as children. She was right, but all everyone will remember was her stand that was bold for what was right.

    I'm a proud Irish American, whose ancestors came to the United States from County Clare. Many of them were Fenians, who wanted independence for all of Ireland, and came to the states during the famine. I hope to visit Ireland, especially County Clare, someday. It will be a very happy, but emotional trip, if I'm able to visit.

    I have not seen many movies that inspired real tears, but this had me genuinely sobbing. It's just heartbreaking.
    It is one of the odd quirks of fate that great military men seldom make great peacetime leaders. Michael Collins might have been one of the exceptions to that rule. If he'd had the chance.

    Went to the Canary Islands on holiday a few years back, ended up in an Irish bar, there’s a Scottish musician playing Irish rebel music. At some during the gig he takes a small break from playing, he takes a large gulp from his pint of stout and asked those in attendance, anyone here from Galway? Few people in the crowd let a roar. Anyone here from Dublin? The crowd roar. Anyone here from Cork? A couple in the corner of the bar roared yes, we are from Cork, up the rebel county. The musician laughed and shook his head. The rebel county he says? The only fucken rebel that you had in Cork you fucken shot. True story. RIP Michael

      Must have been a Lowland Scot. Cork and Kerry were the heart of Collins's network. A lot of his key people were from there and related to him somehow, as am I. It was a terrible and bloody place during the War of Independence. Some of the most important IRA columns worked in the area and consequently that's where battles like Macroom occurred. That's a "joke" I wouldn't tolerate.
