I hadn't heard of the Morgan Stanley paper but Boston Consulting came up with the four box matrix (high /low growth and high/ low profit) in the 1960s. The categories were Star (high high), Dog (low low) and Cash Cow (yes they coined this term for low growth and high profit). Will look for the MS paper. Thanks for the great interview.
