  • On Episode 8 of Season 3, I review the Channel Islands, Happy Traveller (Happy Step Up). This board is marketed as an all rounder with serious step up capabilities. This is something I found to be true as I tested it in heaving beach break and point break. This was one of the first of these models to be tested in Epoxy and it produced some interesting results.

Spinetek is awesome, but not really ideal for step ups in big waves. PU for this model next time, plus if you narrow the width you will find it turns a lot better rail to rail. Not sure if it was a typo, but you went nearly 22 inches wide on your custom dims?

Excellent review. It looked kinda sluggish for the waves you surfed which is average or even good for us everyday surfers. Think I’ll just stick to the lost quiver killer for my traveling needs. It’s more user friendly and gets the job done better for these kinds of waves short of full on barrels. I think happy traveler is only good for punchy big waves/ bigger barreling reef breaks. With all that nose rocker, can’t imagine it paddles that well either. 😅

Surprisingly a very good paddle, but you ain’t wrong on your feedback. I am very amped to try out the quiver killer, always wanted to surf one. Thanks for watching and engaging.

@@TheRegularGuyReview would be awesome to get your review and opinion on the QK. I have one in libtech construction however and it’s a bit on the heavier side but it’s fine on strong offshore days or if there’s some chop. It does also feel slightly sluggish on fatter waves but I think could also be my fin choice. Hope you get your hands on QK soon and look forward to a review on it.

Lots of rocker plus super light epoxy construction always twitchy but you ripped a few turns in the backhand.

How did the rail feel when you scaled it up? Was the 6.6 rail a lot beefier than the rail on your normal 6.2 shortboard, or did they keep the volume down?

It was a little beefier, which I asked for but if I got it again would keep rail the same as shortboard.
