SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT BASED ON ACTIVATED SLUDGE PROCESS:
This process is used for treatment of sewage, where micro-organism degrade the organic material and decomposed organic material is separated in further clarifiers.
Microorganism uses organic material as food thus due to metabolic activity microorganism multiplied and form new cells, this new cell are part of sludge, therefore we call this activated sludge.
From secondary clarifier some specific amount(generally 1% {10kg/m3} Consistency) of sludge is resend to aeration chamber, which is called as return activated sludge.
TYPICAL CHARACTERISTIC OF DOMESTIC SEWAGE:
BOD: 100 - 350 mg/lt or ppm
COD: 250 - 1000 mg/lt or ppm
TSS: 100 - 350 mg/lt or ppm
TDS: 250-850 ppm
Total Nitrogen: 20- 85 ppm
TKN : 30-50 mg/lt or ppm
Total Phosphorus : 2 - 10 ppm
Alkalinity(as CaCO3) : 50- 200 PPM
