They were eliminated in this semi-final and therefore were unmasked and that was their sing out. I'm fairly sure they didn't go to the final because the name of the show is "The Masked Singer" singular, but they got farther than any other group on the show. I am pretty sure everyone knew who they were seconds into their first performance on the show, tbh, but they had fun and enjoyed doing arrangements with instrumentals, so we may be seeing more of that. Heaven knows they have nothing to prove acapella-wise, so why not?

As "over the top" as the judges/hosts reactions were, it was nice (and validating, honestly) to see their excitement when PTX was revealed as the California Roll. Jenny had accurately guessed them a few times throughout the competition, so they do know who PTX is, but I still like seeing the band get their flowers from other people in the industry and recognizing them as "one of the greatest groups ever" (Nick's words), that they are "master[s] at [their] craft" and "grade A artists" (Nicole's words). Because it's true.
On the show, celebrities sing live to a pre-recorded track wearing elaborate costumes, the judges try to guess who they are, and every episode the audience votes off one or more performers who then unmask and do one last song without the mask. Pentatonix came in third, and this was their final episode The audio-only video Pentatonix released this week is, I assume, is a studio version. There are videos on "The Masked Singer" channel of their other, "masked" performances. And there is already a fan video of them performing it in concert, in Poland, yesterday.
I loved that rendition...only thing wrong...I wish it had been much longer. I do know that due to being on that show, they were limited time-wise to 2.5 (appox) minutes for each song, so I'm really hoping they re-arrange it for their concerts as a longer piece and do an official video of this and Paparazzi ( another great cover they did a few weeks ago on the show). They're already using this version at their concerts right now.
Nicole Scherzinger Knows about who they are; She was one of the original judges on the Sing-off when it first began, but she left before the 3rd season to be on the X-factor. Season 3 is when Pentatonix competed on the show and won, but even then, who in the music industry doesn't know who they are? 3 time Grammy winners.
I think fans of Pentatonix knew right away (Scott’s voice, hello) but the judges also had other guesses, such as the cast of Hamilton or High School Musical. I hope this helps them reach a wider audience, and it may be that musical instruments become a regular part of their repertoire.
