Is it necessary to underline genus and species while writing in abbreviated form?
No need to underline when using short forms. Because short forms are used when the name is repeated.
@@MicrobiologyMantra Thank you for your reply
@@MicrobiologyMantra sir If you write obelia sp. So What will be underlined below to sp.???
Good question.
If you are writing only the genus name followed by sp. or spp. , the genus must be underlined, and the sp or spp must not be underlined.
@@MicrobiologyMantra ok sir ..thank you🙂
The laws & principals of Binomial Nomenclature according to ICZN (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature) are mentioned below:-
1) The language of the scientific naming of an organism would be in Latin.
2) The scientific name of an animal must have two parts. The first part of the name is the 'Genus' and the second part of the is the 'Species'
3) Every scientific name must be unique, because a same legitimate name can't be used for naming two distinct organisms.
4) If it is written in hand then both the genus and the species of the name should be underlined separately.
5) Again, If it is printed then the printing form should be in Italics style.
6) The first alphabet of the first part ( Genus) would be in capital with the remaining alphabets in small type, and all the letters of the second part (Species) would be totally in small type.

PhD zoologist here...
The title is at odds with the content. The content details _some_ scientific names and their conventions, but not all taxonomic ranks are covered. Most obvious is the omission of the subspecies name convention (same as the species name; starts with lower case). And simply stating that the names of taxa at all other ranks have a capital is a big jump in inclusion!
you forgot to add Domain above Kingdom...
Brian Wilcox yes 👍. Thanks 👏👏 for finding.
Great very helpful
Good luck
Great video, awesome song - anyone know the name and artist?
It's "A New Beginning" from Bensound
@@TheNightJogger Thank you!
If I write E.coli
Then how I underlined in this case?
You have to underline the entire name with single line.
I have a question. Should we underline author's name also?
No

I have 2 questions :
The genus, the name of the botanist, the species
Is this order correct ?
and if it is,
Will the species name still spelt with small letter in this case ?
Can you please give one example
There's a rule that say the name of the plant should be followed by the name of the botanist
For example Cinchona
the name of the botanist is Charles Ledger
do you understand me ?
Cinchona ledgeriana species is named after Charles Ledger who found this variety. However, ledgeriana is yet considered as species and written in small letters. Hope you got it.
Should we underline it when we are writing in short form or when referring to species
No need to underline when using short forms. Because short forms are used when the name is repeated. Good question.
