Something I just realized and is getting me all giddy...
Aerith's version of the song is much more peaceful but when playing as Cloud in the temple, is much more dark and has Seph's theme lingering. This is because:
Aerith has a much more easier time getting through her portion of the temple because the temple itself gave her access to the lifestream to make the path forward.
Cloud and his party have a much harder time getting through the temple (heavy wind constantly trying to blow them off, having to do labor like pushing blocks to make their way through, the Ironclad that fights them is a literal guardian of the temple) because it doesn't want them there likely due to Seph's influence on Cloud being really strong (we all saw the cutscenes of him killing a SOLDIER, almost killing Elena, slicing that door into pieces, etc.)
Yep, and Aerith’s team didn’t even have a boss to fight during the separation (not including the Turks).
Also something kinda spooky is that when you first play as Cloud during the separation and try to get back to Aerith by reactivating the altar, the game won’t let you and instead says a prompt like “Keep searching for the black materia.”
Absolutely love this track, by far the most underrated track in the whole ost for me. The mystical and tense vibe fits perfectly in context of this area

The track and location design gave me Necrohol of Nabudis-vibes from FF12.
I loved this theme. For some reason parts of this track remind me of the Knights of the Old Republic OST.
This theme is so deep! Gives me Ni No Kuni Edward Scissor Hands and Beauty and the Beast vibes.
