    Always a pleasure to watch your troubleshooting skills. It is very useful to have a battery-powered scope for working on switch mode power supplies, I have a Fluke 99B that I converted to lithium batteries. Another useful technique is to power the controller circuitry with a bench supply then power the SMPS input with a current limited variable DC supply for initial checks. The SMPS operates as a DC to DC converter and one of its inputs can be grounded. Some HP SMPS have this capability built-in. Regards, David

    Fabulous work! Bravo! Maybe add a little Kapton tape to the top of the optocoupler, for the sake of isolation...
