I've been watching for a couple of months now, and im baffed by the fact that these videos dont get more views than they do, i know for a fact that people need/want to learn the lore of the game. This is honestly one of the best lore channels
I need to see a sitcom of these two as travel guides/explorers across the various D&D settings. Will trying super hard to take things seriously and get things right while Will just fucks around and loves the audience. Probably my favorite D&D channel right now, one of my favorites on here in general :)
I cannot tell you guys enough how glad I am you made this in such a comprehensive and informed format! You really helped me in crafting my newest character with the new subclass I am sure you're aware of, the Noble Genie patron Warlock! The flavor of the subclass is by far some of the beat I've seen from any and this lore video has me even more pumped to play it! Thank you!
Efreeti: Conquest and rule Marid:Prestige and art Dao: Wealth Djinn:Luxury for those who wanna play a genie warlock with something other than slaves being a payment
10:17 I believe indentured servitude was a way to pay for crimes instead of prison, like community service but all day every day for years and on a rich guy’s land instead of a highway. A lot of the indentured servants in the American Colonies for example were war prisoners from Scotland and Ireland, but some also volunteered to be indentured servants because they wanted to go to the new world but were too poor to pay their way.
I have stumbled upon a treasure trove that is this channel. I really was curious about genies and browsed the channel and its awesome. I dunno how they determine the topic on the next video but I hope to hear about the Evil Elemental Princes, Archdevils, Classes, monsters and races and stuff. Hopefully a video on each of the Guilds of Ravnica, I know it isn't Faerun or Eberron but it's just as innovative and a good setting for a campaign in my opinion.
I would love to see a episode where you guys just do some homebrew. I always love when you start talking about what you would change about things. I loved the idea of the genie bloodline and warlock pact and now I'm probably going to do some research and do some homebrew of my own to make them. I could make another warlock where there parent is there patronlike my very first d&d character but this time I don't have to be a tefling. Not that I have a problem with them, again they where they first thing I ever played.
I havent watched you guys in ages, but this is definitely a great episode to return to as genies are some of my favourite dnd creatures in dnd. And i am very much with Will on this, i have wanted a genie pact warlock for ages now! and i have actually seen homebrews of it that were pretty good. in fact, there was one that used the whole "your eldritch blast changes to the corresponding element" thing too (they gave dao pact warlocks thunder damage since it relates to tremors/earthquakes).
I just started one in a cloud city in the Elemental plane of air and I'm sending them to the prime for the quests but there are wars and all kinds of crap that they will be dropping in to. I want to make it so that they actually feel like going back to the cloud city where they are slaves is safer then trying to stay in the prime. But we will see where it goes.
Also tell Will there are Elemental Sorcerers, they're essentially Genie blood line anyways. There's Sea, Storm, Stone and Phoenix Sorcery, furthermore the Kaladesh Pyromancer allows for redone to fit the other Elements. The Devs dont wanna force Genie bloodline on Sorcerers but they allow for these 5 to be recoloured essentially to be Genie Sorcerers, and i even think that in the Storm Sorcerer lore it even says that you could be from the bloodline of a Air Genie
I agree with you that we don't need an expressly "Genie Bloodline/pact" and they can be broad to have a large variety of potential origins, but so far only the storm sorcerer, the theoretical Djinn bloodline is official so far, stone, sea, and Phoenix are unearthed arcana.
Towards the end they talk about wanting to have warlock pacts and to be Djinnborn well Kobold Press's Midgard campaign that can be played easily in 5th edition totally offers warlocks pacts and the race for djinnborn it's very cool
Teach a Dao that you can breed your slaves. then just have that one dao run a breeding palace. so the slaves do nothing but breed. all the male babies and male slaves they capture are traded to other dao to acquire females and then occasionally barter for breeding rights from better male specimens. then eventually the Dao would realize that Genasi are more durable slaves then pure mortals.
I feel like you could flavor the Fiend pact Warlock to an Efreeti pact. As you said in the video Devils and Efreet are quite similar: lawful evil, Fire related, known for making deals. The expanded spell list includes fire spells. Dark Ones Luck could be Minor Wish Granting. Hurl through Hell could be Passed through Planar Fire.
@@jbkesselman@@jbkesselman Eh, I suppose... But i think that would need a lot of re-flavoring. The archfey stuff is all about the mysterious magic of nature, of illusions and of esoteric fey-dwellers. I'd imagine that a hag's agenda would be far darker and more evil than a chaotic, neutrally-minded archfey's ever would be... One could perhaps gain access to the hag's "weird magic", possibly requiring EVEN MORE despicable acts to earn such dark boons. Curses, hexes, summonings, poisons, necromancy, and even entering into contracts with desperate mortals yourself (if your hag patron would allow it) would be preferable to misty step or glamor bard or whatever...
Hey guys, I love the show! It has really been a great resource for my first home brew world. I do have a question: what is the difference between a genasi vs a jinnborn? I currently run a witch doctor jinnborn and was curious if there is some sort of family tie or relation between the 2.
Good work my dudes. My campaign has a heavy elemental presence and the Marid and Dao have already made brief appearances. I tend to think of marid as kind of bumbling idiot savants who easily get offended when you don't do things their way but are super easy to manipulate and pacify if you play to their egotism.
Hey guys, great video as always. Genies are always fun to use when you want to mess with people. The chad genie vs the virgin fey. Side note, the link for joing the discord is expired.

I agree! Between these guys and AJ Pickett I've gotten a massive amount of the ecology & lore of D&D.
A trick: you can watch movies on flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
@Coen Brodie Yup, I've been watching on flixzone} for years myself :)
@Coen Brodie Definitely, I've been using flixzone} for since december myself :D

Trying to learn about genies for my Genie Warlock. Great video! You guys totally guessed this was going to be a subclass.
Your wish for warlock pact has been granted. I myself am a genie patron warlock in a campaign right now.
I'm excited to play one myself!

I needed this so much my players just got to a country where it is primarily inhabited by elementals and genies! Thanks. You guys rock!
Efreeti: Conquest and rule
Marid:Prestige and art
Dao: Wealth
Djinn:Luxury

Very helpful! Thxs
I've been waiting for this since the Genasi episode.

Humans are creatures made from earth. Djinn are creature made from smokeless fire.
Dao: ...

Perfect timing, i'm about to start using the Elemental planes in my campaign
Keep up the good work! I'm running a 5e planescape and my players will probably visit the inner planes soon, helpful stuff in this episode!

Love these videos always learning something new to use in my dnd Group!

29:45 that would make you much weaker, because Eldritch Blast's force damage has the least resistances and immunities in the game
Yeah I was thinking about this too. Maybe like a 1d4 damage of the type determined by your patron or something? Added on to the blast of course
My name is Jeff, so this is now my favorite episode.
UA genie patron cheers boys

Dao Vs Dwarves
To me , genies are one of DND’s most criminally underused monsters. Also, I would pay to see a DND setting inspired by the Arabian Nights.
Good news, a year and a half later Tasha's Cauldron of Everything has Genie Warlocks.
That's Jeff he ate dirt until he died and now he's an earth genie. lol Slaves with benefits lol
Speaking of warlock patrons, what about a powerful hag? Has that option ever been explored?
Archfey technically could be a powerful hag
@@jbkesselman@@jbkesselman Eh, I suppose... But i think that would need a lot of re-flavoring. I am very excited
Would an Earth Genasi have any kind of advantage in a Dao’s Maze? Or is it only a full Dao who makes it out ok?
Rewatching this to prep for my first dm host
Is there a lich that gave up the soul in a phylactyry thing to become a genie? I mean, at all in nonfiction, not just D&D lore.
Could you do a video on the red wizards
Djinni! I love these monsters
Yeah, Outlaw Star :D
Are you guys going to make the Pt 2 for genies?
🤘🖖🤘
I'm pretty sure marids only "see themselves" as the most powerful of the genie.
Hey guys, I love the show! It has really been a great resource for my first home brew world. I do have a question: what is the difference between a genasi vs a jinnborn? I currently run a witch doctor jinnborn and was curious if there is some sort of family tie or relation between the 2.
I guess they got there wish. Just off by one year

What would you do if one of your players what’s to be a genie?
Technically you cant. Since assuming said player accidentally does whatever. Is needed to fuse with the elemental plane, they're no longer themselves
Guess you could work with them. As a demigenie, who's not nearly as powerful
Hey guys, great video as always. Genies are always fun to use when you want to mess with people. The chad genie vs the virgin fey.
