    I have returned to Micro 4/3 because of my age 75 , I ordered the tripod mount from Germany and it is very nice for me on a monopod. Just search with a smart browser for German mount adapter for 100-300 lens. It is about 72 Euros about $100 with Paypal fee. I am waiting for the G9 Mark II. I want it for my 76 Birthday, I gave all my Sony full frame to my son, it was too heavy with focal lengths I wanted to use. I have a GX8 and an GX85 to tide me over until I get the new G9.

    Thanks for your great review of this lens. I think it would be helpful for anyone considering the lens with similar need and photography style.
    I have the version two and my situation is similar: I don't often need more reach so I went for the less expensive. Mark ii is weather resistant and is supposed to function better down to -10C. I find the focus ring a bit stiff. While I do not have experience with the first version to compare with...I found it gets a bit soft at about 275 but I have not tried stopping down as you say: thanks for the tip! Perhaps the mark ii autofocus is better but I cannot compare.
    I bought a tripod collar mount from Roesch in Germany which works great if you need that..but as soon as you don't need to mount it on a tripod it is almost in the way. And since it requires a bit of work to take off and put on the tripod mount collar I just keep it on.
    All in all I am satisfied. However...sometimes when GAS kicks in I look at the P Leica 50-200 plus teleconverter. If I would go that route I will sell my 100-300 and 45-150 but despite money from selling those two lenses that it would still be so expensive. And then the GAS disappears just like that.

    Great summary video. Agreed about the AF. Even on the MKII version, it's not reliable for moving subjects on the 2 older Panasonic bodies I tried. It does work much better for moving subjects on an OMDS EM5 MKIII though, so I can use it for birds in flight. And yeah, at 300mm it gets mushy and the contrast drops. Better to stop down a bit/raise ISO, or just pull back the zoom just a bit.

    How can you tell which version of the lens you have? I bought mine via EBay and honestly I am not sure.

    I had the 14-140mm from Panasonic and it was also really slow focusing and lost focus sometimes. I ended up using manual focus. In the end I had to sell it. I wish panasonic made a new version of these lenses but with better autofocus.

      Wow sorry to hear that. They do have mark 2 version of the 14 140, but not sure if the AF is better.

    I've had one for at least 10 years, and barely use it, planning to use it more with my new (old) Olympus EM-1 original, wondering about using the IS on the lens, vs. not, due to Oly in-camera stabilization. Should get up off of my butt and trial it myself...

      Oly IBIS beats MEGA O.I.S every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

    The version II is fast AF and better sharpness fully extended to 300, the version ii is most definitely much better than the version I. It’s not just IS

      Thank you for the correction, I missed the fact that the version II has better sharpness at 300mm.

    I thought that the mega vs power ois is dual is capabilities?

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  2 года назад

      Not exactly. Mega OIS is the older OIS system. The newer Power OIS are a bit better though. 😊

    • @yan870126
      @yan870126 2 года назад +1

      @@Gary_W yeah my meaning is power OIS only can support dual IS. The mega OIS unable to support dual IS yet.

      I believe the Leica 100-400mm is better but the Panasonic 100-300mm isn't bad, I got many good results with it.

      Does the Leica have lens image stabilization? That works with, say. Lumix G85?

    • @NiSE_Rafter
      @NiSE_Rafter 17 дней назад

      I've been looking into these and from what I can tell from accounts by people who own both, the leica is only marginally better for much more size and weight along with being over twice the price. Practically all of them say the Lumix 100-300 is most of the way there in terms of IQ and makes more sense for the majority of people.
