ruclips.net/video/B1wOK9yGUYM/видео.html "I Feel Good," by James Brown. Time to introduce you to the Godfather of Soul and R &B music....who began soul, funk, and Rap music.
Nooo., It's about Jackie Robinson. The very first black major league baseball player. "It seemed like yesterday, when we were working out." and "You set the world on fire." References to his record accomplishments.
I was laying down listening to this song with my eyes closed about 6 months after my dad passed away and when the song said, "you've found another home, I know you're not alone" my entire body got overcome with chills and I started weeping heavily, but it was somewhat of a comforting feeling. I'll always associate this song with that experience. Amazing song.
I had a similar experience with Phil Collins' "Dance into the Light," about my mother's passing. She loved Phil as much as I did, & I'm so glad she lived long enough to hear that album. I try to think of her dancing in the light.
Yes you finally played it. THE best Commadores song winning a Grammy Award in 1985 for Best Vocal R&B Performance by a Duo/Group. The song features a lead vocal from drummer Walter Orange, who had sung lead years earlier on "Brick House". Lionel Richie's replacement, J.D. Nicholas, sings the second verse. THANKYOU
I remember that day so clearly. I was on my way home jamming to the songs on the radio when cut the song short to announce that Marvin Gaye was dead. I had to pull over because I was crying. The way he died was so tragic 💔. His own father. So,so sad.
My mom was really hurt too. We lived in Detroit I was under 10 when it happened I think I didn’t really understand but holy cow it was tragic. Some people say Marvin Gaye’s father was seriously abusive and insane and him moving back home was like suicide by cop he was ready to go he just didn’t have the guts to pull the trigger. To me looking back Marvin Gaye was deep and complicated and broken.
The first guy you asked if "He is the new lead singer"-his name is Walter Orange and he was the drummer for the band when Lionel Richie was the singer. Walter's voice can be heard on songs like Brick House and Too Hot Ta Trot! The second Brother, JD Nicholas-is the vocalist that replaced Lionel Richie.
I will forever think of my late best friend when I hear this song. So much soul and emotion went into this. The line 'We all remember you' really hits home for me. I guess I just really miss my friend. Rip
This kind of music doesn't exist in the music industry anymore. Good music is %50 listening and %50 feeling. When was the last time modern music actually made you feel.
And the 80’s. 95+% of all the worlds greatest music came from the period of the late 60’s to the early 90’s, including this song which was about 1985. Since that period music quickly died as a result of marketing companies taking over and the internet crushing any kind of creativity because kids all became the same and rap of all things took hold. Now it’s all about promoting the person through social media and mainstream marketing rather then the music itself. Everything is completely ruined. At least we have the amazing music of that previous period though.
Jackie Wilson did a sing call Higher and Higher, Baby, Work out, both referenced in this song. He was called Mr. Dynamite because he was a great performer. His voice was operatic.
Jackie Wilson, one of the few true geniuses of '60's soul...left in a coma by a tragic accident. He died in the 1980's. His song _Higher and Higher_ was one of his most well known hits.
Jackie Wilson is a male. You have to check out his song Higher and Higher. He died many years after being in a coma from a fall off a stage while performing. I think he either had a stroke or a heart attack.
@@Kerppu68 I'm guessing you're in your 50s or younger. This was a hit in the mid 80s. By that time I had finished graduate school and was working 80 hour weeks on wall street. Commodores w\o Lionel didn't make the Goldman Sachs' trading desk playlist. But your criticism is valid in that this was a hit so my statement misspoke. Thanks for the correction.
Great music from my teenage years. Still playing while doing night shift in the laboratory in South Africa. Keeping me in good spirits in the early hours before sunrise 🌅🌍
Tribute, to one Marvin Gaye, Lyrics have What's Going on, for him and For Jackie Wilson, they have Higher Higher for - You Love is lifting me Higher and Higher. Walter Orange , the first singer goes back to the beginning, He sang Brick House. New singer- In 1984 former Heatwave singer James Dean "J.D." Nicholas assumed co-lead vocal duties with drummer Walter Orange.
Man, I adore this song... Helped me out so many times when I felt lonely and sad or when I just wanted to listen to the right kind of music late in the evening. It's so incredibly calming and peaceful - I really, really love "Nightshift".... ❤️
Even after 35 years of listening to this song . The intro still makes the hairs on the back of neck stand up. Everytime ! ! A wonderful song. Good choice J .
Jackie Wilson would be a great next step in reacting to his music. Start with "Higher And Higher" or "Lonely Teardrops". Jackie and Marvin died the same year. They both were legends in their genre of music.
Oh my gosh this is one of those songs that as soon as I hear the first couple of notes it brings me right back to my HS days in the 80s, and certain songs can bring me back to exact moments, this is one of them. Thanks for doing this!
The song was written by lead singer Walter Orange in collaboration with Dennis Lambert and Franne Golde, as a loving tribute to soul/R&B singers Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, both of whom died in 1984.
Marvin and Jackie both passed in 84 and this gorgeous song was out in 85. I remeber the first time I heard it all those years ago. It was so soothing as it still is.
The first singer is Walter Orange, the drummer and one of the original members. He also sang lead on Brick House. The second singer is J. D. Nicholas, Lionel's replacement in a way as co-lead singer.
All the love for Jackie Wilson is well deserved. A sad story, but a brilliant performer. In addition to the other excellent Jackie Wilson recommendations from others, you may want to consider "To Be Loved," a classic American ballad. And, yeah the Commodores are a treasure, with of without Lionel Richie (who is fantastic in his own right). Dunno which of their songs you have already covered, but consider "Just to be Close to You," if you are looking for a beautiful and unique R&B option.
I am glad that you got to this one! Always been a favorite song of mine and just a lovely tribute. "Gonna be some sweet sounds, Coming down on the nightshift, I bet you're singing proud, Oh I bet you'll pull a crowd"....You found another home, I know you're not alone, On the nightshift." It may be a song born out of sad circumstances, but the performance and the sentiment are full of joy.
I love everything about this! I love reading the comments and getting an education and understanding of the reasons why these songs were song and who they were dedicated to. Grateful❤️❤️
I remember this song. What a great tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson. So good to hear and see your reaction to a beautiful loving song. RIP Marvin & Jackie.
This great song will always hold a special memory for me when I left my hometown back in '85 for a new job with the AM radio playing Nightshift in my pickup truck.

This song was such a great tribute to two legends. It also proved that the Commodores where so much more than just Lionel Richie's backing band.
Absolutely yes.
Check out Jackie Wilson's song "Your Love is Lifting Me Higher" that is what they are referencing
Also referencing Marvins What's Goin On.
Ritva Hayworth and Fred Astaire version is the Best.

Jackie Wilson I think it is it is a man he was a motown singer also One of his songs was Lonely Teardrops
Although Jackie was friends and worked with Berry Gordy, he was never a Motown artist.
He was a great R&B singer, big hit was Higher and Higher.
He did A Woman,A Lover , A Friend Doggin Me Around, Lonley Teardrops, Baby Workout. I am telling my age but w h o cares ❤
