I will be moving to the PH as soon as my son finish high school, then retired. Easy choice for me, I plan to give everything to my son, save him on his start in life. Way to hard to sell things. When I was a kid, I grew up in a farming town. The PH is is very similar to a country town where I lived. We hunted, fished, and drove motorcycles on the country roads. I plan on doing the same in th PH. except no hunt. Go with the flow, relax, always be positive and watch your wife be happy. Always be happy, time is all that there is.
Driving here in the Philippines is an adventure. Driving about 10 miles a day here in negros I get cut off at least 10 times. At night a third of the vehicles don't even have lights. I've lost 30 pounds since I've been here, what I wouldn't give for a good burrito or a good sandwich
My ex girlfriend had a storage unit she was paying $60 a month. She said she had the unit for 8 years. Because she was always complaining about not having enough money, I asked her what was in the unit and what it was woth if she tried to sell it. She said it had some camping equipment a couple chairs, a table and knick knacks, maybe worth $500. I said, "if you think about it, you've spent almost $6,000 to keep $500 worth of stuff. I then suggested she have a garage sale and get rid of the storage. She started crying and said she didn't want to talk about it anymore. Apparently, sentimental value knows no bounds with some folks.
Some of our boxes got wet and damaged, so it was recommended that we cover the entire boxes with duct tape which is what we have done ever since. That seems to have worked well.
I agree with Kevin's thought about what is happening in America today. Our political system is in disarray, road rage, mass shooting, high inflation, etc. Many of my friends who are reaching 70 and are collecting social security benefits , continue to work just to meet both ends. This is not America used to be.
Public Storage is bad, they will keep raising price by $50-$100 or more and don't give you too much warning time. Get rid of your stuff, get a super small storage unit or pay a relative to let you store a small storage chest. The US is pretty a great place with clean air and water; your pension and social security money are coming from the US.

Storage has become nuts . I rented one in March and 3 months later got a notice that my price was DOUBLING!! So I got on a flight, went back and emptied it.

Kinda crazy. I live in one of the richest areas in the US. Unemployment is non existent and so many people from California are moving in it is insane. Cheap gas, etc.. An example of how rich this area is. My home taxes were dropped this year by several hundred dollars. I went from over 4K/yr to 950 when I turned 65 several years ago. If I had to live in California I would have to have a part time job just to keep my head above water. Here I live very comfortable on basically nothing.
In California the governor signed a law where Mc Donald's employees will be earning $25.00 per hour. Haven't been there in years imagine the increase on the menu to be able to compensate their associates.
Unfortunately life in America is all about Anger Management. EVA air is fantastic. Wife and I have been using them for years, prices are very good compared others. Taiwan Airport is beautiful inside and out.
I ship a lot of boxes to the Philippines. You don’t have to itemize everything. Just maybe four or five items and then the bottom of that you can put personal effects.
Man, I agree. I go back to my home every 6 months and always in a good mood and happy. By three months in, I am starting to get a bad attitude. Unlike you guys I am not selling out.. But, cannot wait to leave again.. On the flip side after a few months of traveling I am looking forward to getting back home. I quit enjoy going back for a few months a year. Just my opinion ,but if you have not traveled to both or very little go to Asia. You will get hurt in SA if not pretty savvy. Asia is very safe compared to most places in SA, Mexico etc IMO.. go slow..
I have travelled, but not to Asia. I have two friends in northern Thailand . I am a small woman, but I do speak Spanish and a good bit of French. Language barrier is not an issue, down south. Many people struggling now with inflation have 20K plus credit card debt, cc interest is skyrocketing . Retired 2004 I do have more than 1 defined pension plan and social security. Think is my income is essentialy same as 2004 when I retired. House is paid no cc debt yet I can feel inflation in many ways. Road rage a flippin bird is a good way to catch a couple of .45 or .357 ( least in AZ phx) yes everyone is on edge. I lived 12 years in PI between Pandacan manila and angeles and olongapo. Fascinating but if you watch a lot of p.i. bloggers things are same as they ever were over there. My son has already left the country in disgust and lives offshore. Dumagete looks great you guys have your community of ex pats aging not unlike 55+ communities. Enjoy the life you made there it looks good.
I've been back in America for 3 weeks for medical and to close my business. It's definitely a challenge being here. I was staying attached to America for the last 2 years which was costing me $2,500 a month in business insurance and storage. That's a house in the Philippines.
If you shipping LBC boxes it cost me from Florida to Gulighan City, Philippines 3 hours from Dumegete $110.00 U.S. . And it takes 4 months to get to Philippines by ship. Plus they pick up at the house. Prices here are high, gas is higher over $3.00 a gallon.
Can you pass along that information on that Citi Bank burner ticket info since JRC will do my 13a their when we come home in January 2024 hopefully waiting on selling our house
Funny you talk about road rage in US when the number of camotes driving Here in Duma area is Far Worse than what I dealt with in Bellingham WA and I find it much more stressful driving here than back there in WA. There is Zero relaxed driving here and gotta be “on your toes” every second.

BE VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL IN THE BIG CITIES when you visit. The COPS DO NOTHING at all. They ignore crime in front of them. The bad guys in the city will just k.ill you for no reason at all. I have been assalted 4 times in the last 6 years in broad daylight. The cops did nothing. Seriously, there are bad people that are really bad. If you never leave your car, I think you might be ok.
What to see in the cities? Nothing worth to spend time. I have always lived in my nice small suburb and never visited any big cities. Nothing to see in the cities to be honest.

That's not bad even at happy hour. When I go to McDonald's with my son for lunch it's $26.00. So a Mexican sit down restaurant that price wasn't bad.

E-travel is no longer required
I just arrived 10/13 and they asked for the e travel QR code. Does not hurt to have it in case a customs person wants it. Easy to do
