Time dilation is real. The older you get, the smaller the percentage a fixed unit of time is. When you're 10 years old, 1 year is 10% of all of your lived experience. By the time you're 50, 1 year is only 2% of your life. Furthermore, when you get to a certain age, your mind is occupied by more "tasks"...things you need to focus on. This is can fluctuate over time, but this often increases from childhood into adulthood. This means that the amount of time your brain is preoccupied with things to do as a percentage of your day increases, and often times you can only reflect on smaller chunks of time and because chunks of experience are a lower percentage of your lived experience. This creates the effect of time "moving" more quickly...which it is, from the observers point of view looking at the outside world compared. It can be overwhelming to try and "look back" at the life you've lived because so much will have changed as time passes for you. Needless to say, you're completely fine in examining this effect and feeling the way that you do. EVERYONE goes through this on their own. That shared experience of doing so can bring you closer to others as you understand more and more how older people feel and why they act the way they do/did.
Get a notebook. Write your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Not everyday but at least once a week or enough times that is manageable. When you look back, you will accumulate so much of yourself on to paper. It will change your life in a positive way.
Great suggestion, thanks! These unfiltered videos I make is a video diary in a way, but it's easier to look back on pages of paper with written thoughts fs. I found a few pages of my 2019 diary this summer and it made me feel a whole range of emotions haha
