EC reset on Chromebook for devices that will not turn on or charge

I am not sure how these devices get into this kind of battery safeguard mode but when it happens the battery will not charge nor come on. I work for a school system and I used to send Asus chromebooks back to Asus when they would not charge or come on. They would be returned with no parts replaced and a note saying that an EC reset was performed. I called Asus and found out what an EC reset was and they said to perform one you hold the power and refresh button down for 10 seconds. Well this wasn't working and we had another tech that accidentally stumbled onto this method and it has worked for 100's of device of every manufacture in our schools. Give it a try of your chromebook will not turn on or charge.

I'm thinking, "this is absurd," when I got a blue, then an orange light! My hardware is different, so I had to plug, unplug, and tap with one hand, but it worked! Thank you bro!

Thank you so much!!! My ASUS CX5500 (Chromebook) had a slow blinking white light and it wasn't starting up. I pressed the refresh button + power button on the side and it worked like a charm!

OMG first step fixed it and so simple that i couldn't believe it worked! Acer 511 with fully charged battery but won't turn on until i did this. Orange led was flashing since brand new but chromebook still worked until recently. How can this not be in the acer 14 page user manual or website?

Yes, it worked. I didn't have to move the power cord in and out. Since my chromebook still had a little charge left on the battery it would power on automatically so I had to first power it off by holding down the Power button for 4 seconds (according to Asus support written instructions), then just hold down the Refresh button and the Power button for a few seconds. The power cord was plugged in the whole time. My Chromebook powered up in a few seconds and the battery icon shows it is charging. The power light on the side of the Chromebook is glowing orange. first you tap refresh several time, and the last try you tap the powerbutton. So which one you tab several times does not matter? Cheers for your video.

I tried the method and it did end up turning on only for a few minutes until it turned back off immediately and it won't turn back on. So it did ended up working only for a few moments but it won't work after that.

Hey, I don't know if you are still looking at the comments for your video but I have the cheapest Chromebook dell was making like 2 years ago and I just had a forced Google OS update happen early yesterday and now the Chromebook won't charge, ive tried 3 different chargers and am positive they are not the issue. The light will flash orange a couple times and it will power up and show a picture of a dead battery and then shut off. What can I try? Im positive it's the Google update, it was ok before that.

You might try removing the bottom cover and unplugging the battery. Otherwise, I am not sure what to recommend.
