I've searched and researched so many tutorials on the mpc live, and I must give credit were credit is due. you are the top dog bro. I've been producing my own Hip Hop for 25 years plus, as well as teaching kids music technology at after school programs. Nobody out there is as down to earth, humble, and easy to follow as you. You would think producing Hip Hop I would have had my MPC game up long ago, but I've always used computers going back to the Amiga. After learning Maschine, I felt it was imperative that I learned how to finally use the MPC. I refer to your videos daily. Thank you Matthew Stratton.......CHECK IT OUT!!!!
been using the live for a while now and i’m self taught- checked out your videos to see if there’s anything new i can learn and this series of vids has taught me alot of new tricks . you’re a great teacher, man 👍🏼
I love when I go looking for one answer and learn five new things. I'm still learning and only have an MPK Mini III and the MPC 2 software for now, but much of what you do with the LIVE translates to some function of one or the other. I've been layering my sounds, but never quite understood what the velocity change per layer does. SO helpful. Thank you.
Appreciate you Bro. I'm on day 2 ownership. A little more complex than my MPC 200 classic & 5000..recently I've been in the Maschine world for 10 years.
Had the MPCX now for 6 days and I watched X videos. It's worth it. Now I know how to use this bad girl. Also, this video is helpful because I was confused if I should put my bass tone single hit in a drum program(then press 16 levels) or put it in instruments group. For sample based music, I think I'm ok with putting it all on a drum group. Like in Logic, u see all your samples on project page., I see it like that
Hey matt the way you explain these videos is really dope for ppl like me a beginner and mpc is a lot to learn and understand but with your videos I'm getting it slowly but surely thanks for this my guy
I’ve only used the key group with an 808 kick. Cause I sample my midi loops from one of my synths. I’m gonna do some experimenting with the key group. Can you get a portomento like effect ?
You can turn up the value of the pitch bend in the LFO Modulation tab in the program edit screen of your keygroup. You can experiment with the pitch wheel of your keyboard to get the portomento like effect. You can record any pitch bends you want into the automation of the sequence.
Is there a way to use the Plugin to create a keygroups so's the filters and stuff can be used for the Plugs sounds? Do the KG bits need to be an .xpn format? Or
Would love to know how to set up a key group on several tracks changing sounds. Whenever I place a key group on a track like 2 or 3 when I start a new key group on track 4 a horn or sax it play the same key group on track 3. How do you lay down several tracks using different sound per key group
Can you have multiple samples in the same keygroup that get triggered depending on the note you hit? For instance if you wanted to load in a bunch of samples of the same sound but with different notes? (Like C, F, G etc.) I assume this is kind of how the auto sampler works?
Is there a way to chane the delay timing of a keygroup sound on the MPC One hardware? Everytime I change the tempo, it changes the delay timing to that tempo, but it's off? There are no effects on with a delay, and I cannot find a delay timing anywhere? Is there a way to change the delay timing with the whole keygroup?...SBN RESONATE
Im so so sorry I dont understand the point in key groups, please could you help me? 1. Why would you need it? 2. How is it different to using the 16 levels (notes) function to get the sound you want? 3. How is it different to just playing those two C samples at the same time? Or layering together? Why key group? Thank you !!!
When I use keygroup programs I can hear them but they don't record into the sequence . All the drum programs record. I'm new to this MPC coming from a 2500.
From what I know is the there is practically no difference between pressing record and overdub except for where it starts to to record it in the sequence. I think overdub will start exactly where you are and record will start at the beginning of the bar.
Hello. Record will actually delete any previous midi events and record over them when you are in midi tracks. Overdub will add onto what you have previously recorded. If you want to start play back or recording from the beginning of the sequence press play start. If you want to start where you are at in the sequence press play.
Is this why my 808's were playing? I loaded all my sounds including the 808 and it played fine, but when I went to notes mode to play the 808's on the chromatic scale I heard nothing. and then when I went back to my sounds I heard the 808 again. So is key grouping the solution and only solution? and side note, how can you tune your 808's since there is no plug in within standalone?
how to limit the keyrange of a layer so that we can use 4 multisamples eg C1 C2 C3 C4 ? and how to set the root note's please? In teh software we have an ugly dropdown where wemneed to choose things , how is ity solved on teh hardware please?
I wished AKAI would put out a mpc live but with keys instead pads and called that mpc keys. I mean how do you want to play complicated chords or melodys?
Hello! Thank you for all your tutorials!! ...i just got my MPC one last week and i feel semi-pro because of you! Question for this video: Why is the root note in Bank D...You lost me there...if I don't know why I might forget...brain farts, lol
You can make a preview mp3 if you want. Make a "previews" folder and put it in the same folder as your keygroup programs and name the mp3 the same as your program name.
Matthew, I am trying to get audio from my MacBook into my MPC for sampling, I am using a 1/8 to rca connection into the rca port on the mpc. However, my audio is distorted and echo-y. What am I doing wrong?
You should use the line level inputs for audio from the MacBook. You can bye adaptors for the rca cable or you can bet 1/8 to 1/2 inch. The RCA ports arm for turn tables with no preamp.
So I got a question does the MPC Live read USB Instruments? Like the roland Boutiques? Because i'm getting no signal and others are telling Me it needs to be plugged into the stereo line in but thats false because the roland boutiques send out audio info through usb. So are the USB ports on the MPC Live basically limited to just putting a stupid storage device? I say stupid because cmon how much storage space do you really need on this thing? Seems like akai slacked off on features just to put 2 USB Ports, 1 SD Slot, & an SSD slot.
The usb ports are not for usb instruments, mics, or audio interfaces to my knowledge. You can use the usb ports for storage devices and usb midi controllers. If you have a feature request it is best to contact Akai and request it. Also, there is likely a post about it on the official forum where you can plus one the post and voice your thoughts. I have no affiliation with Akai other than using the products they make.
@@MatthewStratton Thanks Dude. I appreciate the wisdom and the clarity You provided with the videos and just now in the comment. I took the Live for a spin for a bout a week but had to return it for this very reason. In the market now there are a lot of instruments that transfer audio through USB. Roland Boutiques series, and the Unosynth to mention a few.
Mate, the keygroups should actually define, in the case of a multisampled instrument, the range of the sample so that it doesn't get pitch-related artifacts. This is why there are multisampled instruments... to get samples evenly played all over the keyboard
Right. A keygroup program contains one or more keygroups. A keygroup is a group of keys that have a sample or samples assigned to it up to 4 layers of samples per keygroup. A complex multiple sample keygroup program can have 128 keygroups in the program. The more keygroups that you have with properly pitched and assigned keys/notes to more accurate you instrument will sound to its source.
Exactly. You have to define the root note of the sample (aka the original pitch of the sample) to make the keygroup work. You should really talk about this when making a video about how to use MPC keygroups.
Please, I want to make a recommendation to help you improve the quality of your videos. Drop, “go ahead and” from your speech. If you think I’m kidding, go through this video and count the number of times you say, “go ahead and.” It doesn’t add anything, and it detracts from the polished appearance and sound of your work.
