Yo Matt,I got my MPC Live on Friday Jan 18th,watched your videos over the weekend, and made some killer beats today Monday the 21st. Your videos are the best on here for me because your camera placement is perfect,I can see every step that you do,you explain it all clearly, and I have my computer monitor going on the right with the MPC Live to the left of me so I can follow everything that you do step by step. Great Job man!
When you made your first beginner video what are you showing ?Is itOn defaultWhen you’re doing the drum program. And how can you get set back to default
Thanks for the comment! For sure, I will do one on sampling coming up, it may be a couple weeks though. I am going to do a few on building a sequence first.
This is fun learning from your videos. You are a good teacher and say things slowly enough so I can follow along, understand them, and I am actually doing it! Your music is right on time with the bpm too and Is good. Makes me feel more comfortable learning from someone that knows how sound should and rhythm should go.
Try and go over how the sequences need to be lined up in song mode to play properly...Myself and many others have had problems with this part. Different sequences must share the same track type and program. This can be confusing. Thanks brother. Subed. 😀
Specially when at the end you are trying to convert all sequences into one long sequence and export it as separate tracks. I would like to see tutorial on this as well.
@@k0v4l Exactly. That part is very very confusing as you would think that the sequences would work totally independent of each other...They don't in song mode. It makes it confusing if you want to bring in a totally differert program on a new sequence. No one is really covering this topic in depth.
Thanks. Midi tracks are for sure one of the most confusing things about the MPC. You need to have the same programs in the same track sequence to sequence that way the correct programs play on the correct track after bouncing song to sequence. Difficult to explain on the phone with limited time. Will need to do a full video about it for sure.
Thanks for a great tutorial- just got an MPC Live and am brand new to this type of instrument and found this video to be helpful. Subscribed and liked, my friend.
Great demo and answered a bunch of stuff I need to know before buying one. One thing I need to ask is, can the MPC program tempo changes? For example, gradual increases as the track is playing
Hi, Matthew! thank you so much for your videos! have a question, is it possible to assign different effects on each sound from the drum kit or only just for the whole drum rack?
Can i hook up a controller in mpc live and play a piano/strings/brass? 1) what if i want to create a song file thats not hiphop? Can i use a controller to play bassline for swing jazz? 2) can i use mpc live like i use my Roland MC50 sequencer? Waiting for your helpful answers
Great video very basic... however I be having trouble with the metronome and I can’t seem to get it at times. What is the correct way do I do it before or at the same time or after the click?
Hey Love your videos. Just started with MPC ONE. I’m used to Elektron workflow so this is a new world for me. There is a small but extremely annoying problem I can’t figure out. I’ve created a drum program and tapped in some kick drums using grid mode. I want to transpose two of the drum hits but when I transpose them and they move up the grid, the transposed notes don’t play. Why is that?
hi man this is a wonderfull serie thank you so much im Learning with you...i dont understand a Thing.. in the section of metronome...what is the difference in the option of count-in and in enable? thank you for the answer
Great video - Is it possible to make good beats or tracks without ever having picked up an instrument? Do I need to learn keys? It drums? I’m looking at an MPC Live and just want to have fun but am I wasting my money not playing any instruments? That piece interests me because I think you can assign chords to the pads etc and play with presets but idk
The kits are all you need to get started with song making. It comes with a ton of kits to play with. Later on, you can always bring in vocals or guitar or whatever as you so desire. Or you can sample from existing songs and isolate guitar rifs or whatever but watch out for copyright! Hope this helps.
FastZebra Zoom thanks so much. Id love to get one and try to create tracks as a hobby but just intimidated cause I can’t play drums, guitar, keys/ never sampled.
+Joe Blow No problem. You don't really need a ton of skill for this thing. There's a "piano roll" mode that lets you methodically program in the drum parts with keyboard parts etc. You don't have to do it in real-time. So essentially you're hand-crafting songs and building them up at your own pace one beat at a time. The real "problem" is learning all the little bells and whistles that the device offers. I learned a lot just following the various RUclips vids. Plus there is an "MPC bible" for sale on line somewhere, just look it up.
@@JoeBlow-tr6xt Just go for it, practice is all it takes. Maybe buy an arturia keystep to go with it as your keyboard, it has a great arpegiator and chord functionality. Layering things is a greay way of making meatier sounds, ie layer 2 synth sounds or layer 2 kick drums etc. And worst case scenario you could always just sell it on. And dont beat yourself up if your first few tracks are lame, happens everyone!
Hey Matt, how do we access the drum sounds from Toolroom and Capsun Audio etc.? Do we have to have the SSD Drive installed first or ? I try to scroll thru all the available sounds/sets and I can't find them.
Thank you, this video has been super helpful! Is there a way to remove one sample from the sample pool? I've yet to find a way, and I've accidentally loaded a couple samples I don't want. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
If all your samples that you want are assigned to a program already you can Press the computer chip to the top right on the main mode and choose "Purge" then Press "Unused samples". This will purge all the samples not assigned. No way to just pick one and removed it from the sample pool individually that I am aware of.
How can you get 2 different drum programs in the same sequence? Example Seems once you load drum program number 2 and previously recorded drum program just gets wiped and plays new drum program? How can I layer drums from 2 different programs in the same sequence?
Love your videos man. I just bought an MPC one and never made or tried to make music before. Its like a foreign language to me. Your videos helped me allot. I do have an issue though. When I hit record and start making my beat, it doesnt sound the same as when im hitting the pads. Its not in sequence. I have the quantize on but dont know what the 1/4 or 1/8 mean. I usually keep my BPM at 120. Do you know how to make the beat in sequence?
The 1/4 or 1/8 are the intervals that the MPC quantizes the notes to. 1/4 is going to be less precise than 1/8. So 1/4 will be more extreme if you are playing more groovy beats. Try starting with 1/16. Or if you do not wait it quantized and want it to sound exactly as you are playing turn the value off.

Maybe try to use audio tracks like I show in this video: ruclips.net/video/U5vGefc9mSg/видео.html
Does this machine quantize for you?
Yes. You can quantize (Time Correct) to 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, and in triplets. Alternatively you can turn quantize off.
Also everytime I see a vid loading onto pool it pains me 2 see no randomly lit pads capturing whats highlighted.
Does it have velocity zones for samples?
Yes. You can set 4 samples per pad to trigger at velocities that you set.
Also, does this track by track?
You can have up to 128 MIDI tracks. Yes.
bro what does the create events option mean when your saving a sample to a drum program?
It puts midi events in the sequencer. So if you select that option and go to the grid edit for the track that the drum program is on, you will see the events. And if you push play you should hear you sample.
