I used to stay out for months with stevens ,they will leave you sitting, they'll take loads from you, they're doing whatever it takes to make you go broke,I never had service failure, 100 percent on time rate, and when I asked someone higher up why is this going on he said I cant tell all the details but its a part of the process, somehow they rely on driver turnover, stevens has at least 300 new drivers coming through orientation a month so they need that many drivers quitting, their fleet stays the same that should tell you something.
Stevens is the worst company i have ever had the misfortune of working for. Not just the worst trucking company, but the worst COMPANY i have ever worked for in my 21 years of career after getting mt BA. A company that screws up 5 times in a row on your pay (followed by the most ridiculous excuses rather than an apology) and mails your insurance packet to the wrong address...what does that say about the company? This company didn't even clean or service the truck i was about to lease which ended up getting tons of issues after a month. Tim Mcknight from Alliance lied and said my truck was ready and good to go, only to find the truck still not cleaned of all the trash and stains which means nothing has been done for the truck. This company has dispatch managers that are too stoned the night before to remember anything they were supposed to do and you can clearly tell over the phone that something is wrong with these guys. It's not just their attitude. They have short term memory problems and like to lie pathologically so that you can get off the phone with them. Everytime you go to the Dallas yard, you will always visit the safety department for the most ridiculous "violations" and be kept prisoner at the yard for days. It's as if we are getting punished for going home. Unless you drive below the speed limit 100% and drive absolutely perfecrly like some square, you will waste tons of time at the yard. These violations aren't something DOT and highway patrols seriously care about even if you're driving a semi: It's simply STEVENS violations that they came up with to make you drive how they want you to drive. Stevens will make you take a class that takes half a day long and make you retrain with the Red Shirts. Keep in mind that it takes hours, sometimes the next day, before it's yoyr turn to retrain with red shirts. Lies, empty promises, lots of wasted time (time is money....literally) from company mistakes/safety department, terrible dispatch managers, terrible meat patch loads, fake appreciations and smiles. Stevens, you guys are seriously the worst grouo of people i have ever had to work with. I'm at a disbelief at how bad you guys are, yet you never apologize for your many mistakes and act like you're in the right like a psychopath. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Get your training at Stevens and find a better carrier. This is what Stevens is know for: They are a training company that can't hold onto good drivers.
Lease is basically u will do slightly better than company driver when rates are high and when they fall Stevens gets to buy a truck back that u made payments on for the next year for free all large carriers haul to cheap for a independent operator to make good living on and for example tmc on same load paid 900 and myself and other owners was getting 2k for Bremen Indiana to shepherd'sville ky very light load of insulation foam board
I left Hornady trucking 23 years ago and didn't look back👍🏿 at that time it was .31 cents per mile which wasn't 💩 every since 2008 I drive for a local grocery store, get any OT that I want and home every day off on weekends
Anybody that thinks Lease Purchase is the way to go. Deserves what comes from it. Large Companies create Lease Purchase Programs as a way to make Drivers think they will make more $$. When in reality Companies know it is a way to Pass off the Equipment and other Costs onto Drivers. Lease Purchase drivers actually make the same or Less than Company Drivers. They found a way to get drivers to Make Truck payments, Permits, Insurances, Base Plates Etc. But it doesn't stop there. That Check you get after all Costs and Fees come out. You Still have to Withhold YOUR OWN payroll taxes, SS/Self Employment Taxes. Then you have what might be a Pay Check.
Congratulations, I'm in ohio near Cleveland. If anyone knows of any trucking companies hiring in this area that could get me home every other day, I'd appreciate it. Good luck with your new job, and i hope nothing but the best for you. Be safe and have a good one. 👍🏽
Being an IC is not for everyone bro. I’m sorry shit went sideways for you. Stevens is not a good place to be an IC at all. I left my company as an IC cause I was like you, getting zero settlements for weeks at a time. I went with Landstar and I’m doing much better. I wish you luck on your new company. Keep us posted on how things work out for you brother.
They'll sit you alot and close to paying truck off you'll sit even more. Then take your truck if you can't pay final payment. Best way to make money in trucking is to drive local and or dump trucks. Oil field jobs pay very good too
This guy didn’t know anything,,, part of trucking you go to the meat patch of course you’ll sit until they decide to load your trailer or get lucky & it’s loaded,,, you should have drove company & learn your lanes first…. I’ve been doing it since 1989,,, every company has its problems of sitting…. When they give you an appointment it’s not Stevens it’s the customer that sets it when they need that load…
I was also a Steven's driver from 2008 to 2012. They were ok company then. What really grinder my my gears with them was the "hurry up and wait" when picking up produce. Then having to give it to a "team driver", usually a trainer and student. B/c I ran out of hrs trying to pick up all the stops on time. Also getting a load that has a lot of time on it and alot of miles, then getting rerouted to a train yard so it can ride the rails b/c it cheaper per mile. But the biggest thing that made me quite was over home time. I wanted to attend a trade show back in my home town, which I've been in attendance for was over 10yrs straight. So I "made a deal" with my dispatchers that I would stay out for over 8 weeks just so the they had enough time to get a route planned to get me back home in time. But.... where was I at the time of the trade show? Stuck in a parking lot while snowing waiting for a JBS load of meat for 3 days🤬 so after that I made plans to find another job, and I did.
Driver there are a lot of companies you can be home every day as a company driver and make 70,000 plus a year. Just be willing to live in a city where that can happen
On the company side I did a little better. I would consider asking your dm what they can do to get you more miles. Or if that doesn’t work switch dms! It’s always a good idea to let them know your goals!
All of those trucking companies do a contractor division. That puts all of the responsibility on the driver. They don't pay taxes, social security, unemployment,or workman's compensation. They dictated where you fueled and where you got the truck maintenance done. God forbid if you broke down or blew a tire. In the end you wind up giving the truck back and you are broke. Then they mail you a 1099 at the end of the year and you have to pay taxes and social security with money you don't have.
Lol @ These old Super Truckers from 1968 being rude. Make the decision that’s best for you dude. We all know Steven’s Transport is not the GREATEST company. Use them to gain experience and move on with your career.
Guys, just work for JB Hunt, trucking doesn't have to be complicated. They'll pay you .72/mile and $35/stop, benefits are great, company is rock-solid and isn't going anywhere. Downside of course is yeah, a camera on-board and a lot of safety garbage. But hell, I'm making $120k/yr with these guys so if they want to watch me pee, that's up to them. There are plenty of other good companies too, the mistake is always going lease-purchase. Then they own you.
@@robertlee7606 Hey, it's a job dude. I got nothing to hide. I mean yeah, now and then I have to answer for little things that don't mean much - following too close or rolling a stop sign. But my answer is always the same - "Yep, I did that." And I'm sure they've seen me pick my nose and probably seen me pee in a cup, but again, that's up to them. Personally if I were on the other end of the camera I wouldn't want to be watching that. Far as being a "puppet," not sure what you mean - I run the loads I'm given. The alternative, I suppose, is finding your own loads. No thanks, I'd rather spend my spare time not working. It's the same job no matter how you do it - keep it between the ditches.
Bro three day to sit for a load!? I wouldn’t of waited out, when I first started OTR with swift I remember that happened the same to me one time back in my rookie year 2014 I was gonna go pick up a load in Charlotte, North Carolina and deliver it to Livermore California when I got to the shipper they told me it was gonna be two day!! I called my dispatch and told him that I’m not waiting that long! So he got me a load somewhere else.. I was new the the trucking industry but I wasn’t dumb even my dad veteran truck driver and he taught me a lot of things about trucking..
Stevens business model is awesone for IC drivers.... you pay $700 a week lease for 2 to 3 years, plus all the other expenses, basically buying the truck for the company by working your A$$ off... then they graciously offer to sell you the truck...you know...the one you just bought for them...a great deal indeed.. FOR THEM 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭
I did started with them 10yrs ago, I did figured out quickly they are only good for training and never waste a time. Left after 3 months and get decent driving which get me to buy my own truck after 8 months. So don’t waste your time with them beautiful T680 because you will starve to death
Is the Company Owned hooked up with Bekin Van Lines. When they tell me are going to make money as a Independent because of the Economy. My Brother was a Owner operator then bounced a new Used Tractor he too then didn’t make money. Not because he wasn’t get the paid it was his choice to not Work, if he would have went to work instead o parting with our Older Brother.
It's a training company. They train you to get your CDL (no matter what, even no matter how incompetent the student might be, because they get over $2,000 per graduate from federal programs) then train you to pay for their new trucks through the Alliance program. They use you, so you use them to get your training and experience and move on to a decent opportunity.
@@camdatboi They will get you your CDL, for sure. It's decent training, better than a lot out there. You have to work off the costs over three years or pay it when you leave. Decent training, but awful to drive for. Get in and get out.
When you do a lease purchase with a company you are using the truck you bought from them and they continue you because they have you by the short hairs. The tail oh you can make more money is a smoke screan so buyer be ware
im a recent gard with a family of four. getting home time is important to me. i understand that we as new drivers are pushed to go otr but is there a way to stay local as a new grad? im in dallas fort worth area as well. i desperately need a job but my family needs me home nightly. feels like every door is shut but over the road. if you or anyone who reads this know of a local company that would grant me that oppertunity, this would be such a great help. new to texas an i dont have much of a network of people or friends in the field
Lease operators or contractors is really “company driver with no benefits”. Owning a truck is tough, takes years or decades of experience and knowledge before attempting to run ur own truck. Banks understand this and that’s why they won’t finance you, if you really own it you can’t just walk away, and that’s not a knock on you personally. These big companies make it sound so wonderful but as you see it’s hard. Companies do it to keep from having to give you benefits and March your payroll taxes.
A lot of people have been telling me they rely on people quitting! I had a feeling they were trying to push me out before I left. My new job is sick tho! Good luck to you sir.
I start orientation with them a week from today, I live in Lubbock. Do you mind me asking what company you are going too? Because I know eventually I do not want to stay with Stevens forever… I just want to get my experience *new CDL
Good luck been out here about 30 years all these companies got some Bull with them the only advice I can give to you is find your nitch it's always going to be something you don't like especially now if the bull works for you stick around if not do what you doing but don't become a ho to the industry with 20 different companies in 5 years because that won't work either good luck In your next chapter
Act like ur sick, even go to DR with a note etc etc till they deposit ur last check then call saying oh yeah I quit I'm on my way back with the truck and trailer
Contracting is like giving away money. I've done it and it typically doesn't pan out financially. Yeah you get more up front but you'll give alot back on the back end. Just find a company that pays well and do some financial planning/investing its works out better in the long run
Exactly. I’m an IC and doing very well. You have to pick a good company to lease to who’ll keep you busy. Not many of them out there unfortunately…. But it’s doable. As a company driver you’re capped . As an IC, your growth is limitless… that’s the difference. But not everyone can be a successful IC.
they realize, but until drivers start walking away hundreds at a time instead of the couple a day that happens… they’ll never switch up the slaughterhouse rules
I mean stevens transport I would consider a B tier company....I work from prime and they're great....you can usually tell a b tier from an a tier because b tiers will hire pretty much whoever
@@InterstateRevenue As long as our borders are open they have an endless supply of cheap labor. They know this. Do you really think that the current regime just somehow forgot to enforce US laws at the border?
I knew the moment the video started and he had Contractor Division on the door....Stevens pushes that Alliance crap on the naive and the desperate, it's predatory and downright evil. When I worked there the Alliance recruiter would call me once a week, until I told her I would never in a million years become a contractor and to please stop calling me.
These bottom feeders always make the Lease-Operator programs sound like heaven on earth. Then, once the ink is dry on the contracts, everything goes to hell. They promise all this great money, more home time and better choice of loads. But a word of caution: once you turn down a load, they'll give you crappy low-mileage runs making you want to quit. Which you'll have to do at some point as you won't be able to make the truck payment. Also, you really can't take home time when you want as you still have that pesky payment to make; to do that you really have to run your butt off. Understand that these programs are generally NOT to benefit the driver. That's the first thing a person has to consider - what's in it for "THEM", the management. I'm sure there are good Lease/Owner/Operator opportunities out there, a person just has to do their homework. Good luck on your new gig!!
@@JessicaRodriguez-gi2cl Well that's a debated question. Most truck drivers that own at least their tractors feel that they are owner operators and thus have the ability to make choices within the companies that they associate. That's the type of work that I perform hence I own my truck and trailer. The reality is slightly different and the company still controls almost all that concerns the contractor regardless what other drivers want to believe or say. The only truck drivers that are able to make their own choices are those considered independents. An independent operates on his own federal authority and answers to God, his wife, and what filings requirements state and federal authorities require. So a contractor, myself, is a glorified employee driver that pays his own employee tax and bills associated with the operation of the equipment.
Let me tell you all now there is no good trucking company out there, theyre all the same, first month you'll get the miles after that you'll be lucky to get 2000 miles a week, why does every truck company has a high turnover rate, its because its profitable somehow to keep a revolving door of drivers coming and going, they collect money for orientation and being a job creator, the more the better, switching to another company isn't gonna be better, either you have paid for truck or you're gonna be miserable in trucking.
Stevens is just a good company for school, they will teach you how to drive a truck ill give them that, but they go always hit you with that lease purchase, it save them on fuel and maintenance, and i dont even think they 80% -20%. How the hell you go have this man lease purchase and not run him, its a dirty game
The hotel was actually pretty clean! Just one roommate at a time but I ended up having 3 or 4 of them over the course of my stay! Be sure to like and subscribe!
Dude, you'll be staying at the luna lodge. It's in a pretty rough neighborhood. Try to go recovery side. It's $250 a day. Even if you have to sit a for days on end waiting on a load back to Dallas, you're still getting paid instead of getting no money. Plus you keep all the flyer miles and they add up quickly. Your transportation, hotel , plane tickets are all paid for. With freight being so slow, recovery is the way to go.
@@Dragging79 so they fly u to get truck n trailer and once u get their equipment they book you a load back to their terminal then fly you out again get another truck etc etc ?

In the first minute and a half you stated that you went to the contractor division without fully understanding how it works and you made less money.... and it's "not my fault". Really????
Yes it is your fault that you got suckered into an "owner op" deal. Or the lease to own bullshit. You should have known when you started to stay far away from that crap. So yes it is your fault. Best to go company when you start to get a feel for how it all works. Good luck tho bro. But Steven's would pay you what? .32cpm as a company driver lmao..go to another company asap man. I'm doing regional work with weekends off and usually at the house one or two nights during the week as well. I get paid 72cpm, also get paid to sleep in the truck and get paid for every stop I do.
That’s with any refrigerated company especially when it’s by the mile if you going to be leasing get a job paying percentage
Hang in there ... Keep grinding, even as a driver. This experience will make you a much better driver.
Congratulations, I'm in ohio near Cleveland. If anyone knows of any trucking companies hiring in this area that could get me home every other day, I'd appreciate it. Good luck with your new job, and i hope nothing but the best for you. Be safe and have a good one. 👍🏽
I was there in 2022.... i liked it it was just to far from home. I would go back but not right now. Good luck out there man
Being an IC is not for everyone bro.
You had your own truck when you went?
Loving my job at Continental Express! I’m home nightly!
I'm 2 months solo as company driver with stevens. I'm only grossing about 1k a week. Figured I'd make more
On the company side I did a little better. I would consider asking your dm what they can do to get you more miles. Or if that doesn’t work switch dms! It’s always a good idea to let them know your goals!
Also sub to my channel and watch my other videos! I documented a lot of my time at stevens!

Lol. Take out lease programs. Have everyone be a company Driver and pay the company drivers one dollar a mile problem solved.
Lol @ These old Super Truckers from 1968 being rude. Make the decision that’s best for you dude. We all know Steven’s Transport is not the GREATEST company. Use them to gain experience and move on with your career.
heh i’m a contractor for stevens now lol. i’m in that negative check phase now lol shop time and hometime expenses
All you are is a watched puppet!
I have a buddy that works for Swift up in Detroit Michigan and he is an Owner Operator

Dam.... sitting for 3 days that's crazy. That's depressing lol. 65-70 cent per mile that's a good guide . Some companies leasing is a scam. Lol
It is called "fleece purchase" for good reason and now you can understand why California is closed off for you as a lease purchase operator.
Would you say it's worth it? I been lookin in the ga area
@@camdatboi They will get you your CDL, for sure. It's decent training, better than a lot out there. You have to work off the costs over three years or pay it when you leave. Decent training, but awful to drive for. Get in and get out.

What the heck do you mean March your payroll taxes?
Am leaving stevens this week too
A lot of people have been telling me they rely on people quitting! I had a feeling they were trying to push me out before I left. My new job is sick tho! Good luck to you sir.

Contracting is like giving away money. I've done it and it typically doesn't pan out financially. Yeah you get more up front but you'll give alot back on the back end. Just find a company that pays well and do some financial planning/investing its works out better in the long run
What is contracting?
If I said it once or a million times only way to make good money is as a company driver .
Not true, speaking form my circle of people I know who are lease operators.
We are all doing very well.
Exactly. I’m an IC and doing very well. You have to pick a good company to lease to who’ll keep you busy. Not many of them out there unfortunately…. But it’s doable. As a company driver you’re capped . As an IC, your growth is limitless… that’s the difference. But not everyone can be a successful IC.
You probably doing a lease purchase, not good anywhere.
Sounds like a company we have here in pa called pitt ohio we're your home every nite they are thru out the u s
Why can't these big companies realize what they are doing is not working
they realize, but until drivers start walking away hundreds at a time instead of the couple a day that happens… they’ll never switch up the slaughterhouse rules
It is working for them. More cash in there pocket.
I mean stevens transport I would consider a B tier company....I work from prime and they're great....you can usually tell a b tier from an a tier because b tiers will hire pretty much whoever
Less money. Most don't make money. Lease is a huge risk. I repoe lease trucks. That's where the money is at. $5,000.00 per week. Winter off.

Unionize and fight back...
New Job at Stevens in OKC?
Nope! I started working for Continental express!
This company really exploits their contractors.
What exactly is a contractor?
Steve's got another one.....got em
Never go contract never I’m not gon say to much just I work here and and very soon I will be out of here as well
Let me tell you all now there is no good trucking company out there, theyre all the same, first month you'll get the miles after that you'll be lucky to get 2000 miles a week, why does every truck company has a high turnover rate, its because its profitable somehow to keep a revolving door of drivers coming and going, they collect money for orientation and being a job creator, the more the better, switching to another company isn't gonna be better, either you have paid for truck or you're gonna be miserable in trucking.
Stevens is just a good company for school, they will teach you how to drive a truck ill give them that, but they go always hit you with that lease purchase, it save them on fuel and maintenance, and i dont even think they 80% -20%. How the hell you go have this man lease purchase and not run him, its a dirty game
