This is one of those things where multiple revelations come out years after-the-fact. Fred and Allison Norris had marital troubles (continuing for several years) in that April 1996 period. Fred was keeping in touch with his estranged wife, but only meeting her at restaurants for dinner and such. They tried to keep up appearances, but would flare up into fights, most notably at this Rainbow Room venue. What isn't such common knowledge is that HOWARD and his missus were also on the rocks during that same time -- Howard moved into a specially-built-for-him apartment during the Private Parts film, Howard was trying to keep up appearances (because THE MOVIE WAS ABOUT A HAPPY MULTI-DECADE MARRIAGE), but the Sterns were effectively estranged during production. The undercurrent here (in 1996) is: Howard is poking Fred about the deteriorating quality of his marriage, Fred isn't happy about it, and Fred is hinting but not directly saying "Hey, buddy, YOU'RE not the one to be mocking OTHERS for a quietly disintegrating marriage." He even repeats it here, again, years after the fact. "Other people had their own issues, during that time, and that's all I'm gonna say."
Mad respect for Fred for keeping quiet about Howards’s marital troubles I would not have hesitated in putting Howard on blast if I’d been in Fred’s position.
Last bit of this drama: Howard kept bugging Fred about this Rainbow Room incident, Fred kept saying "Lay off, I'm not gonna talk about this on-air," Howard did his typical "Yes, we'll talk about whatever I want to" schtick, and finally Fred walked out of the studio. Howard downplayed it as a lighthearted spat-of-the-week, UNTIL Fred also skipped the (Private Parts) movie filming that afternoon. Then Howard threw his own tantrum, and the two had a backstage conversation.
@@sskoog Yes, I'm listening to it now ( ruclips.net/video/Ok791HVQRhM/видео.html ). I'd heard it before, years ago, but I didn't really put together the overview of Fred AND Howard both having marriage troubles around the same time,
Howard describing Imus is like anyone describing Howard, today. Satellite radio is dying, and Howard somehow has convinced them that all the subs they have are listening to him as he's completely alienated every fan he ever had.
I would have never guessed Howard would've turned into the person he is now. He's really a horrible person in a lot of ways, one being his Covid views, what a sad old fool.
@@IAEMThatIAEMEXACTLY!! Thank you! All these dopes complaining about Howard and the show, sound like a bunch of dumbfucks!!! God forbid a radio dj got older and changed over the years!!! Fred is one of my favorites when they got to him because it's pretty rare but did you ever hear him not realizing they were playing a tape of Riley Martin and Fred randomly starts arguing with the tape not realizing it wasn't Riley? Also great Fred was when they questioned what he does work wise.
Fred's reaction made that segment more brutal than it needed to be. If you break it down, all that happened is Fred and his wife got into a fight and howard talked about it against Fred's will. That's NOTHING compared to the shit that some of the other staffers went through. If he had just let it roll off his shoulders, that segment would've been totally different.
There's some soft backstage context here which surfaces throughout the early 2000s -- it manifests most frequently during the Artie Lange years, when Fred + Robin (not Sal, not Gary) periodically break character to say "Cmon, Howard, why do you keep playing along, stop the act, stop poking the bear, you KNOW what's going on here" -- during this late 90s pre-Artie era, it was "Cmon, Howard, why are you playing the perfect husband, we KNOW you're already living a separate life from Allison in your basement and/or apartment, it's pretty shallow to go on pretending for the sake of a $40 million film." Notice how, in the depths of his rage, Fred decides NOT TO SHOW UP TO THE SET OF HOWARD'S FAKE MOVIE, almost as if to highlight Stern's own fraudulent marital image, and, all previous melodrama aside, THAT'S when Howard takes things seriously, and talks to Norris off-air to work it all out.
I love Artie era, but the years where Fred & Jackie’s lives were the endless targets of jokes and question marks about their strangeness were so damn funny. Things like Jokeland saga with the jetty or cookiepuss are timeless
Ambler, PA is an actual town outside of Philly.... Howard’s busting in an intern for the mistake but more than likely the intern if from Philly and thought the guy said Ambler. And I know that has nothing to do with this clip, just thought it was funny;)
@Alan Smithee Opie has never said a funny thing in his life and ruined that show for everyone to the point that we look for clips featuring ONLY Ant and Jim. I can't even believe you had the balls to compare "Opie" to Fred.
I hate how the show all pretend Robin is incredibly beautiful . Robin givins should play robin!?? And they all sit there agreeing with this lmao! Robin givens could play one of quivers legs maybe. Maybe Dwayne the rock could play Howard too
I also hate how everyone had to keep confirming to Howard that Beth was hot. You know Mary Dell’Abbate is hotter so is Dana. Beth is a tall thoroughbred. Horses are gorgeous.
One of the few times Fred was remotely interesting or his presence slightly funny...the other was when his Wife was making out with the guy in Tony & Tina's Wedding and the guy came into the Studio.
That's cause the fat fuck isn't funny. He is one of those guys who might be funny to drink truck drivers at the bar and he won the lottery by getting on the stern show. But like a guy who wins the lottery with no talent he is slowly deteriorating

Almost like Howard is a soulless piece of shit who built his career off of infinitely more talented, funnier, better people than himself.

I don't understand why a fan would feel alienated that the person who they liked got old
howard is older now than imus was then. There has to be a reason they keep reupping his contract

The show where Fred leaves the studio and they go through his bag was a classic. Fred went ballistic. I hope someone can dig that up.
Ive never heard this clip and now i want to
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes! That was so funny because Howard sounded like a naughty but scared little kid sneaking cookies out of a jar.
He didnt go ballistic. He got annoyed and complained is more like it
Link?
The rainbow room story was one of the greatest in the show's history, I never laughed so hard
It was even funnier when the dude who busted Fred came into the studio. 😅
Lol, that guy who called in was hysterical. I didn’t know he came into the studio

Wow. This is the first clip of something I've never heard live. Thanks for the experience.
Working on stern had to be the best and most toxic work place there was
Fred gas so much pent up rage. He’s probably horrible to live with.
The original of this argument was one of the best moments of the show. KROCK days were the best!
Love the prank call at the end of the segment, never heard that one before
It funny hearing Howard talk about Imus when now they look and sound identical and Howard is just as old now
Except that 2020s Howard is nowhere near as charming or entertaining as Imus.

Hearing howard describe imus and dierder is quite hilarious knowing that stern became that exact thing
You can insert Howie’s name into that rant, and you are describing present day Stern. It’s hilarious actually
Fred acting like it’s some huge deal it only became that because he acted like a mental patient he’s the most sensitive member of the show by far

Hell yes. Fred Morrison reporting for duty
22:00 reminds me of someone in 2022..
If not for the Stern show, Fred would be in a homeless camp mumbling to himself.

Anyone know if there's video or audio from the show when the Rainbow room guy came in?
My favorite was Eddie Money doing a Liberace skit.

Artie wanted so badly to be John Belushi. It's like he sought out heroin because he thought it would make him cool to be a junkie.
Probably the dumbest comment I’ve ever seen. You score zero points, and we’re all dumber for having been subjected to it.
robin is ego bs
Towards the end of this Howard calls Imus a racist. Howard can say this because he doesn’t have a long history of saying a racist things😂
Artie stopped being funny when "Stuttering John" left.
