Insta360 Go 3 is the smallest stabilized HD camera in the world with many improvements over the Go 2. But are those improvements worth the extra cost? The Go 3 is not the smallest action camera. The Go 2 is smaller and lighter. I never shoot more than 60 seconds at a time so the overheat issue doesn’t affect me. The pro video mode is essentially unchanged from the go 2. There is nothing about this camera that would make me upgrade. The GO 2 has a much more protective case.
True but I meant insta360 go series in general. Also, go 2 isn’t sold anymore. 😄
That’s exactly what I would say, word for word. I own TWO GO2’s for B-roll. They are no-fuss shot grabbers, and the short clips make editing go so much faster later on. I can’t count high enough how many times I’ve captured great shots just because they are small and INSTANT and nearly indestructible.
I also has a Go 2. Bought it a few months ago when it was going out of stock almost everywhere. I think I may have bought the last one in my city 😅
I was hoping the lens of the Go 3 would be wider than the Go 2, as I always run into the edges when I edit.
The angled attachment on the pendant, to me, would be most beneficial. I hope it is compatible with the Go 2. It would be the most useful accessory to have for Go 2 owners.
I bought two of the Go2, one for me and one for my daughter who took it to Australia. It died the first time she used it, as she used it in the pool and the waterproofing failed. We think the lens cover was not on tight enough, but bluntly that's BS and it should have been on tight from the factory. I MIGHT get her one of these for her birthday, next April - but she'll probably hate it, cos of the way her 2 let her down when she really wanted it.
@@bigglyguy8429 im really sorry to hear that about the go2. Tbh I’m very very wary when I use any camera underwater. I double and triple check everything. And still I’ve managed to lose a camera to water damage (it was a prototype).
For me, the pre-recording, and loop recording are game changers. It means you can now use it as a dashcam, as well as for a personal safety cam. I am a little disappointed that the form factor is different from the 2, meaning that many accessories that i already have for the 2 would be useless. And, if only it wasn't so expensive, i would buy it immediately!
Uhuh I wonder why they didn’t just use the exact same body. I guess they didn’t want to sell just the actionpod to go 2 owners. They wanted to sell the entire camera…? Or maybe it needs the new processor.
@@360vroomers I'm not sure if it's a ploy to sell more accessories, or if the form factor had to change in order to make the improvements. It would definitely be an extra engineering challenge to fit in the new features with the constraint of maintaining the same form factor.
agree with you. i lost my go 2 and left with the case and all the accessories. wanted to buy the 3 but it's expensive and found out i won't be able to use my go 2 accessories.

Thank you for the honest review. The Go3 is definitely an improvement over the Go2. If it was under$300, i might buy it just for the display. Having a Go2, hero 11 and 11 mini, I don't see a reason to spend the money.
Thanks kentonn714. If you already have all those cameras then probably you’re fine. As for the actionpod being sold separately, it’s possible but it only works with go 3. Go 2’s pins have a different layout so it can’t connect to the actionpod even though it can fit.
I agree. I have the Go2, and I cant justify the upgrade. The 2.7K video is only a 13% improvement on 1440p - which is unnoticeable and with such a wide view, I dont need a screen to compose. Pity, as I was keen to upgrade with all the hype of it being 4K. Disappointing.

but I think upgrading from go2 to go3 isn't a big jump and
it's getting bigger with that screen and more expensive, I can also use the screen of my cellphone.
I was expecting a go 3 smaller with a bigger resolution,
smaller things should stay easy and quick like go1 and go2.
I am a big fan of Insta 360 but I`ll have to pass on this one
and wait for the breathtaking moment when something new/innovative comes out!

Thanks Sheet Metal! Your reaction is exactly the same thought I had when they told me about the go3. I didn’t think the screen was big enough of a change to warrant the upgrade. But when I used it, it was much more convenient than a phone. No more waiting for connection.

The good thing about purchasing through your links are that if you do have any sort of an issue, you have a strong representative behind you to help you resolve anything. I haven’t had to use that card yet, but it’s nice to know it’s in my back pocket.
I do agree with you at the very end of your video when you stated that, you prefer the X.3 for mini situation’s. Although I don’t have the go through yet, I do think the perfect combination is both a X3 and they Go 3. Can’t wait to get my hands on it and try it out for myself. I travel often and planning on using it more conveniently doing things like walking through airports attaching it to my luggage bags, etc. but nothing can be the extended visible stick view that gives the appearance of being a drone shot. Keep up the good work it’s truly appreciated.

Thanks! The lens guard is the same size, so you can use the lens guard and ND filter. As for mounts, the go 3 is slightly larger so some accessories might not fit.

Thanks sparty837. Sorry no it has no external mic option right now. It does have usb c so it is possible that insta360 will add support for a usb mic but they haven’t said anything about it.

I'm not sure if this would be worth the upgrade over the Go 2 if i still had mine, but seeing as how I lost it and it's been out of stock for months, I couldn't help but order the Go 3 basically as soon as the order page went live this morning. I'm excited!!

Thanks for the comparison. I just bought the Go 2 a few months ago, when it is nearly going out of stock everywhere, when I was prepping for an overseas trip. So far, it seems like the Go 3 uses the same lens as the Go 2, as no reviewer has ever mentioned the lens. I always run into the edges of the footages when I edit. I was hoping the Go 3 has a wider angle of vision that I can make full use of in editing.
Anyway, the missus is not letting me buy another camera since I have just bought the Insta360 One RS Twin Edition. 😂

Great, quick overview and review (I'm still not forgiving Insta360 for not providing any news or update on the long-overdue 3D Mount they have been promising since Jan 2020, still on their website to this date saying "Coming Soon").
How did you obtain the camera if it's unsponsored? Did you buy it in some exclusive presale, or or will you need to send it back?
Hi Philafxs. Unsponsored means that they didn’t pay me to make a video, unlike many prominent channels. That means insta360 reviewed and approved their video before it was published. Insta360 did send me a review unit for testing but didn’t review my video before it was published. You can see my comparison was brutally honest.

Thank you for these videos, always enjoy your reviews. Have you noticed any difference in the field of view between GO2 and GO3? When I got the GO2 I noticed it had a slightly narrower field of view compared to the original GO. Also is it possible to turn off the beeping/voice activation feature?
Thanks! When I get home I will check the fov. But yes it is possible to turn off the beeping, the voice activation, the lcd display and even the flashing led light.
@@360vroomers Any update? Just curious as I often record videos with the GO2 mounted on another camera, so a slightly wider FOV helps me out as you can see more of the lens of the underlying camera.

Thanks! Go 3 can use the same selfie stick as insta360 x3 but the selfie stick will be visible. If you want the selfie stick to be invisible then you need a 360 camera like x3. Or you can use DJI action 2, 3 or 4 with Invisistick which will erase the stick in post processing but you have to upload each video to their cloud server each time and I believe each video can be only a few minutes.
Love your review of the Go 3. Maybe it was your post-production rendering, but the Go 3 videos in all the side-by-side comparisons had a lot of noise.

thanks for such an ubiased review, the issue I have with the go 3 is the price. Currently I can pick up a brand new go 2 for half the price of the go 3? Do you think the upgrade to the go 3 is worth spending more?
Thanks! Yes the price is higher than many expected. But if you can get Go 2 for half the price, i think that's a pretty good deal. The only issue is how often you expect to use it? If you expect to use it very often, then i think the extra cost of Go 3 might be worth it in the long run.

The invisible selfie stick is invisible only with a 360 camera. Go3 is not a 360 camera. You can use it with invisible selfie stick but the shaft is not going to be invisible.
I'm thinking of getting one of these for someone for Christmas and I was wondering it says that you can get a 32, 64 or 128 GB is that for the pictures to be stored in the camera? If so couldn't you use 128 GB microSD card in a 32 GB camera?

I love my go2 but hate how it needs the usb-a to usb-c cable to charge. With the go3, did they actually fix this so I can use a regular usb-c cable for charging?
YES! I carry a usb-c to usb-a cable with me solely for the GO2. It seems silly that we can’t use a regular usb-c cable like we can with their 360 cameras.
@@djbronzed yeah, honestly one reason why I don’t use my go2 as often. I think I’d be sold on go3 if I can just use any usb-c charger, but the fact nobody is talking about it has me worried it’s still an issue
I don’t understand. Ive been charging it with any usb C. For example the dji mavic 3 adapter. Or the gopro usb cable and connect it to a PC. You’re saying that it doesn’t work unless you use the original cable?
@@360vroomers No, but many users only use usb-c to usc-c cables (mostly mac users who only have usb-c ports). That does not work. Wit hthe Go 2 you need to use a usb-c to usb-a cable to work. This is super inconvenient since as a mac user i then need to use a dongle or a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
@@360vroomers I don’t have a magic but I thought my go pro also came with a usb-a to usb-c type cable. However, I have usb-c to usb-c type cables that I often use to charge my iPad and MacBook, which have no issue in charging my GoPro but doesn’t work for my go2 meaning I have to bring a special cable for my go2. Hoping the go3 can use a standard charger so I can just use one across devices
If one wanted to take this into the ocean on a surfboard (you included a bit from a promo clip that suggested this use) or bodyboard, how could it mount and be secure? I wouldn't trust a magnet to withstand the power of breaking waves. Thank you!
Hi Raku5219. Good question! Definitely you should not trust a magnet for that. I would use a standard gopro adhesive mount and the quick release mount I showed. With those, yes you can use the go 3 securely on a surfboard.
That’s how I lost my Go 2 - jumping into the lake off of a boat! Magnet is no match for water.

External microphone support?
None yet but I’m asking insta360 if they can add mic support via usb.
No more overheating is a game changer but there is no improvement in sound quality from the Go 2 and no improvement in the signal strength of connection with the remote. I nearly bought one but the price just does not justify the upgrade.
Thanks anverk. Just to clarify, go 3’s microphone is clearer imho. But the range of the remote isn’t very far. It’s something like 75 ft or less.
Battery life seems much better on the GO 3 for some reason too ? On the GO 2 I get 20 minutes of Hyperlapse with one battery, I think I got more with the GO 1 !
Interesting observation! I believe that the Go 3 does have a larger battery than Go 2. They might also have optimized the hyperlapse mode.

Hi Doug. The go3 is very slightly larger than go 2. Almost the same size. Re overheating I haven’t experienced overheating on go3 yet. They did a good job fixing that.

Great review! I've had my go2 64gb since it came out. I pour water on it when it overheats. Im always envious of how other action cams record longer coz I cant do that with this little guy. This new version records longer and it now invades the space of the gopros, thats great. Im a little tempted to upgrade but I guess I can wait a while longer and see what else comes out. Cheers
Yes exactly. Originally Insta360 Go was designed just as a mini camera. Now as you said it is becoming more similar to GoPro. We’ll see where this goes. Meanwhile, thanks for sharing the tip on using water!
Don't be too optimistic about overheating. My GO 3 was changed yesterday, under guarantee, because of... overheating problem.
If you film indoor or outdoor short footages and under 30°C, no real problem : the camera is hot but nothing dangerous.
If the temperature is about 30°C and more, the camera begin to overheat : i measured temperature of the camera at 41°C (i have the evidence)
If you film more than 10 minutes non-stop, the camera also begin to overheat.
This is only my experience : maybe a bad production.
Now, i have a new GO 3 and i will check again about overheating problem, soon.
The main problem of this camera is the price according to its specifications : no 4K, no external mic, no sd card slot, no battery replacement, no gimbal and some limitation about horizon lock.
Finally, it is a good and amazing product but really overpriced
One super positive point is the customer support : reactive and efficient.
Hi BlueThailand. I tested indoors in 76F (24.4C) with no air conditioning. The weather is heating up in my area. I will test again in warmer conditions. As for the cost, it is higher than expected but the quality is really good.

My guess is that a 4k60 sensor would have required too much power and would cause too much heat… maybe?

That was one of the negative of the Go2 that she always overheated too quick, I swear when I wrote an email stating that if they they make a Go3 that we need to make a voice control on the camera needs to be waterproof it needs larger memory and it cannot overheat….
My canine where is it on his harness and I really wish I could afford the Go3, stop there’s anybody out there watching us who has the power to send me one so I can do a review video and post it on RUclips so people who have animals, they could see how proper it is.

It is losing it's uniqueness of being very light and small... I am sticking to the GO 2. The beeping sound is quite useful though for action sports.

Why does this company give us something we never asked for?
We want higher resolution 360 cameras, not this. We have GoPro and they will always dominate. Stay in your lane Insta360.
Instead they waste time and money on this.

I understand your frustration. Fwiw I think when insta360 expands into other categories, they help introduce more people to their products including 360. So they are growing the pie.

Hi what was the temperature where you were shooting? I shot over 2 hours straight and it didn’t stop. And what mode were you using?
@@360vroomers i tried 2.7k and freeframe. Inside the house a little while ago, so no sun and no heat keeping the go3 out of the case. Have you tried with the case?
@@diavoletto1985 try shooting regular video not freeview. Freeview is more processor intensive and will heat up faster. And again, use the case.

At this price it's not worth the "upgrade" at all. And they said nothing about improving or changing the way it connects to phones + transferring footage which is one of go2's most annoying drawbacks so it means it's probably still the same.
Re connecting to phones it is very easy and connects reliably. Re transferring footage, I don’t transfer footage to my phone. That’s one of the strengths of insta360 cameras. You can edit and export and share without transferring the videos to your phone. This is not only faster but also saves space on your phone. I only transfer to my desktop.
I'm sorry but, It's almost unbelievable that this camera gets bigger and more expensive with every new version and once again it doesn't do the only thing the original GO already needed many years ago: to shoot 4K! That's it! Thanks but no thanks, bye.
It is not 4k but please have a look with the comparison vs gopro toward the end. You might be surprised.

Seriously bigger? this cam is obviously way smaller than your thumb size with the battery built in, even if it can take 4K now would you even buy it if it gets overheat within 5mins, GoPro can't even launch such a product now nor should it therefore basically it's targeted at different needs. Get a Red8k if you prefer specs over anything else, cheers!

This will go down as insta360 biggest mistake ever. What a mess. The go 2 system was better in almost every way. This thing is a Frankenstein of a bunch of stuff i dont want. I was really looking forward to the go 3. Looks like ill have to wait another 2 years to see if they go back to what makes the go2 set up great. Literally all the go 3 needed was an sd card slot and a mic jack & or a built in receiver for wireless audio. This has none of that.
Hi lunchtime. I find the go 3 is much easier to use than go 2. But maybe they will release a Go 2S that has the specs you wanr

No 4K and this silly poddy display thingo make this a pointless upgrade from the excellent GO 2.
Thanks for checking out the video. For me, the no overheating is very useful. And the touchscreen makes it very convenient to use. It’s like the difference between a smartphone and an old style phone.

Such a great upgrade from the GO2. Looks like a mini DSLR. Love the screen and what it can do. cannot wait to get one. would have loved them to have included a way to use an external mic and up the video to 4k. hopefully next time they do that.
Yes I think it’s quite convenient to use! It’s possible for them to add external mic support via usb. I agree it would be great if they do as well as 4k.
