If you are going to be walking in that, better take a stick. You never know.... Construction work, sewer that pop open, etc... Plenty of opportunities to fall in a hole.

I see how much work was done on the city's infrastructure since Sandy. What a joke this city is fixing things with spit and glue.
More funny is city did not updates the sewer system but they force the property with all the new regulations after sandy! But no matter how the buildings updates theirs system inside, when the sewer main from the street is over flow and back flow to the building, it would still flood the building!

The flooding is not caused by climate change...it's because of too much building construction: there isn't enough topsoil to soak up all of the rain so it accumulates rapidly. The same thing is happening in Atlanta and every other major city in the country. The housing shortage caused by major corporations like Black Rock and Zillow and rich boomers looking to purchase rental properties to fund their retirement has created a need for more homes to be built, which is exacerbating this flooding issue. Back in 2007 it rained heavily in NYC for 1 WEEK straight and there was almost no flooding, we did not get a lot of rain yesterday.
THE FLOODING is caused by large amounts of water at one time, know that water levels are up, the warmest day of 2023 was a special day. the warmest day also melted the most glaciers in one day. That extra water will continue to rise day by day.
it will rain more heavy downpours, and more tropical storms. more tornados tidal waves tsunamis they all need water.

NYC is in a flood plain so it floods. Paving over and putting concrete over arears that should be absorbing runoff isn't a good idea.

More attention needs to be paid to infrastructure maintenance. Storm drainage is one. I have seen first hand how local government bureaucracy does a horrible job of maintaining infrastructure . When the managing structure gets big enough the people involved usually realize they can get away with murder. Sometimes there's nothing we could do. This could be one of those times. Mother nature can be rough but sometimes we mess it up. People should not let things get out of hand just because they may lie their way to the top.

@@maryfrances1307 can you explain your comment? So God is washing away the poor or the high income gentrifiers? The flooding took place mostly in Jewish neighborhoods. So your comment does have some validity, if that was the meaning. However, typically a neighborhood is destroyed (drugs, violence, etc.) intentionally to lower real estate prices. Then the gentrifiers move in for pennies on the dollar. What happened here seems to be the reverse. Perhaps the Most High is pushing out the high income class.
Now illegal immigrants can boat straight into New York. Put out the banner, "All are welcome."

This climate catastrophe is a wake up call for Brooklyn to redesign its streets for people- not cars and make buses and bikes move around easier than cars. Get with the program like Manhattan and really transform- way too much on-street parking! cars are destroying the damn borough!
