As a collector of 27 years thoroughly enjoy your video’s. I always pick up some additional knowledge. Last night I picked up a couple of new manufactures names that I definitely will be checking out. Thank You Dave for what you do and how well you do it. I know it takes a colossal amount of dedicated time and effort and is of great value to both new and old collectors of the pen community. I’m impressed and grateful. Best Always!!
I liked being reminded of some of the pens you’ve already reviewed and seeing some that were new to me. It’s always nice to see smaller makers get the attention they deserve.
This is the best video you have ever done. I loved all the new and unique designs. I, too, yawn at most of the look-alike pens most independent pen makers crank out. I have a Kilk and 18111, but the rest were new for me and had me excited. Thank you.
Nice to revisit these with you! Thank you for doing this one and providing more exposure to these gifted manufacturers. I think I will go back and watch your original reviews again.
Another great review, David. There are an amazing number of smaller artisan makers now, nationally and internationally. Without big company, big bucks advertising behind them it can be difficult to know they exist. Your interest in different and unique pens helps to get the word out. You mentioned Instagram, and it's a great way to tap into many of these smaller artisan makers and see examples of their incredible work. And of course major pen shows are an excellent way to discover some of these artisans, with the added benefit of being able to see and hold their pens in your hand, and the pleasure of conversing with them as well.
Wow! Now THAT was fun!! One point I'd add for your viewers is the importance of acting quickly and then being patient! I so wanted one of those Monty Winnfield Highwater but alas I was too slow.
This was such a fun and satisfying video to watch! I can see why you found these worthy to purchase. Really ❤this video. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this. 😊
For the Icon, if you want a wider grip section, you should try out their Grooved Grip. The very narrow section was an issue for me initially, but I love it much more now that I have swapped it with their Grooved Grip which is wider and less tapered.
Thank you, Dave, for this awesome shoutout to smaller makers. I’m very happy to have some of your lineup in my collection as well. Kasamah I’ve sold, because the (titanium) section was too heavy for me. I’m very happy with my Ryan Krusac Legend16 in Ebony with labradorite finials, such great work and craftsmanship! Michal… I own several of his pens and that’s an absolute joy! Since a few days I own a Gravitas as well, still have to get used to the metal section, but it is absolutely growing on me; great value for money! Thank you for your great work for all of us! 🙏
You accomplished what you set out to do: highlight wonderful pens that might have escaped our notice. That I was aware of many of them is a credit to your excellent reviews. Many thanks, David!
Yeahhhh! I am so happy a gravitas made the list. I actually have their website open right now (and have had it open for a couple weeks) as I am trying to snag one of their pocket pens that has been impossible to find it stock haha. I won't say more in case I add more people to the line trying to get it in front of me 😆
There are some very unique pens there but in order to get them you have to go to pen shows or know of the artisan manufacturers and how to contact them. It takes a lot of time and specialised knowledge. Annual pen shows I wanted to go to have been cancelled because of Covid. Some of these pen makers also seem to have to cease making pens for a number of reasons. I like the wooden pens and those like the Lamy 2000 that have a simple, rugged finish. Some of the acrylics like the Monteverde Sequoia are very nice pens.
Hello David- Thank you for dedicating your time to these videos, they are always enjoyable and informative. I am trying to determine if the LIY Shiyou pens can be posted, I haven't seen any photos to indicate this. Thanks again!
The Kasama pen looks like a bamboo stalk once it's dried and varnished. :o I've seen people post the pen in FB FP groups and I haven't seen a solid review until now.
I think I have seen a handful of these before, but most were new to me. I think I need a Ryan Krusac pen In my life. I have a couple gravitas pens on the way to me any day now.
Just got a new Kilk Celestina Black and Blue with 14k medium nib at high discount on Memorial Day sale fore less than 283 dollars shipping included instead of regular 500 euros plus shipping, as an astronomer I really appreciate a hand made pen with a space them.
I have Gravitas pens (copper) on my wish list! I am trying to buy "made in the USA" right now, so my favorite is Karas Pen Co, because they are right here in Arizona! I have the heavy, all copper INK you reviewed awhile back! I also have an Edison and a Birmingham pen. I even have some kit pens from Etsy sellers. I just love having a wide variety of pens in not only price ranges, but also materials.
06:50 “LiveInYou - ShiYou” is made in Shanghai, China. Available on TaoBao China (if you have friends living in China, they may help.) with other patterns too. It is about USD55.00- Well-made pen. I am using it from time to time.😉
What's really interesting about the fountain pen world is that people from many backgrounds can start producing their own pen bodies and use Jowo/Bock nib units to create absolutely brilliant writing instruments using unique materials and manufacturing processes. In many other fields the barrier for entry into a business like this can be incredibly high, so no individual can get in on their own, but here we seem to have a lot of room for creative people to express themselves.
How do you do research to buy from a new brand never heard of? I often get this dilemma whether to take risk putting money into these unheard brands or just play safe..
I got a wierd one. But don't know what it's called or the value of it. It's japanese, super super tiny, from the 50s, and may or may not of had an offensive figure on it at some point.
@@peterpete5848 I've been in contact with them on Instagram and they said their still taking commissions and are fairly active posting new stock on their account. Where did you hear they went out of business?
David totally stole his cocobolo line in this review from the character of Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) in the television show Better Call Saul. Ryan Krusac from Ryan Krusac pens has horrible customer service!

Some very interesting pens. As someone who likes to carry a pen in my shirt pocket I wish more of the pen makers would include a clip.

Great company to be mentioned in ;) Thank you.
Thank you for doing this video. Enjoy seeing smaller business creations. I ordered a Gravitas pen based on your review. I’m waiting for it to arrive.
Terrific summary and reviews - crossing my fingers that I'll make the cut for the next version of this list! :)

Excellent video! Thank you for the introduction to these other pen makers!

I have the Chonk, ordered it right after your review video of it. I love it, super hefty fun to write with.
You have some very cool pens there! Thanks!
A new Prince …. Very nice and subtly done!

Very good work, bringing some of the lesser-known high quality pens to a wider audience.
Great video, thank you! Some very very beautiful pens there. And a new Prince indeed ... 👑
Excellent video. Some great pens David. One can get a bit bogged down with the well known.
Now THIS is a great list ! More small pen makers need to be heard amazing work

Although I have seen most of the reviews that was really satisfying. Thanks.
Very creative roll stop on the Night Sky pen
Great concept for a review. Beautiful, unique pens such as these need exposure. Thanks 👍

That Shi You pen is amazing. It looks like a Weeping Willow pattern.
Beautiful pens! You have great taste!
Tfs Mike. LOVE the Shiyou marbled green resin pen. Do you know if it was available with a broad nib?
I love my Kilk Celestial Fp too! What about xezo maestro Tahiti mother of pearl or Namisu Neos…also wonderful and unique. Pens
Great video!

What about the spark pen form Toms Studio?
Any interest in selling that Legend 15 to a new collector? I had to ask. Can't find one anywhere.
"After the last Prince of Wales received a promotion." 😂🤣😂🤣😂

If you like Ultem pens, check out Ian Schon, if you haven’t already done so. He makes very nice pens, IMHO.
I have reviewed that model from Schon DSGN.
What a fun and informative video, thanks. I go for the Kasama.
Very interesting
The grip of the pen is just called the section?
yup
How do you do research to buy from a new brand never heard of? I often get this dilemma whether to take risk putting money into these unheard brands or just play safe..
The first thing I would do would be to search for reviews from creators you trust/enjoy.
Pocket Clips are obviously too hard to do. Only 2 pens here have them.
That last Kilk pen was my favourite.

Here in India fountain pen usage is completely disappeared with the school boys as well as adults.ball pen culture completely came into existence.
