My second Trans Am also a 77 , was a Y82 car almost identical to this one. It had the L78 auto trans, PW, PL, AC, Tilt wheel, Cruise control, Deluxe interior, and the Hurst Hatch roof was the second design like this car with the plastic molding trimming out the headliner instead of the gasket. They tended to seal better than the first design. It had a 3.23 axle with the safe-t-track rear. Loved that car. Wasn't the fastest but so much fun with the tops out and cruising around.

Me too, I ordered in Oct 1976, HURST HATCHES ALWAYS SEEPED/ leaked into frame/ Cabin...interestingly, a,ways though about ordering the TA engine/ 4 Soeed/No Hatch/ install Body Tire Spats, better rustproofing *& keep forever... mine was a Disaster after 15;years in Indiana road salt. Also maintenances getting big ( back springs broke, reprogrammed auto trans was getting iffy at 135,000 ,(155K),maybe more, frame and body getting Iffy!,).......Anyways best Car I ever had, though low on Horsepower, even with my redoing a lot....pretty quick to top speeds!

They felt fast when you were driving them back then when they were new but really they werent. My 69 AMX w/390 would eat them alive as well as my 72 z-28. My friend had a brand new one in high school and wrecked it @ 20 mph in the student parking lot and they totaled it. They gave him the 78 TA brand new which was even slower. He was pissed.

Thanks, see my remarks. greatest steering & Drives: but no horsepower : we really liked the 77 Special Ed I ordered in OCT 76......getting in March 1977.....though the Hurst Hatches were kind of leaky Disappointment...Ps: my best Friend in 1970/80 was aN AMC DEA,ER MECHANIC,he had a 390 Green/AMX/4 Speed set up for Drag Racking & Dealer stuff, I stored it for while In 1975-76.. awesome if set up ......Actually he still has it, stored , not running at last Report *2016 or so..

Thanks..interestingly, this 77 about like the one I ordered in OCT 1976: AUTO/6.6L ENGINE( gross underpower)/ HURST HATCHES/ DELUXE velour INTERIOR/SPECIAL EDITION/ WINDOW TINT delete/AM RADIO/ AUTO/ Cruise/ TILT/ no power window/ asd in ZIEBART RUST PROOF .....my first SPECIAL ORDER NEW Car ordered from BLEDSOE POntiac/ Buick in WARSAW IND(Parents bought a 1953 Buick Yellow/ Black top/DYNAFLOW at Dealer’sFather in 1953!! ).......Anyways, we used it for some 134,000miles for 15 years before road salt destroyed ....etc. Best driving/handling Car I ever had .. Was nice to work on and enhance performances, safety, etc,( KONI SHOCKS, tires/ transmission ,distributor, & engine reprograms, etc).....Kind of wished could have saved( tops **leaked , **seeped into frames too, etc)........also, interestingly, my Children loved it also, and then The Smokey/ BANDIT MOVIE CAME OUT, ETC!!!

Car looks clean and possibly original. Hard to tell from a vid, but worth looking at if one was in the market to buy one. The Y-82 either came with the Pontiac 400, or a Olds 403 motor.(Freakin weird) If this is a 2FW/Y-82 L-78, then it's a Pontiac. If not, it's the Olds 403.

    • @tomcherry7029

The engine in this car is a Pontiac not an Olds , easy to spot the Olds the oil fill tube is just in front of the Shaker. Cant tell which Pontiac engine it is because the are all the same block 326 - 455 cid the 265-301 the intake is the fastest give away they are flat single plane units.

    Hills Motors,
Hire me to do these Videos for you.
This was 12:24 of Complete Boredom, Seriously.
What an Iconic and Sought after Car.
I would have at least given out HP & Torque Numbers and set one in the direction to substantially increase those numbers.
The Little Old Lady Sunday afternoon Drive did show me how well it hits the ground with a smooth ride and that low level Rumble coming from the Back was Awesome.
Sir, this is a Muscle Car, The Most Iconic Muscle Car known to Man and I never Heard the Engine Kick in or that Great Rumble go Nuclear because the Driver never put his foot into the Carburetor, WHY NOT?
That & either low playing blood pumping Music instead of Words is all that Was missing.
Think of the Movie, “SMOKEY & The BANDIT”, remember how they slide across 4 lanes of Interstate & Drove up Grass side of on & off Ramps on the Interstates ?
Remember Burt putting his Foot through the Carburetor when he Jumped the Bridge ?
This is what Sold every Red Blooded American on this Car.
That’s what we’re looking to buy right Now, not a Shinny Black Car to Drive Ms Daisy.
    Please do better Next Time.
    Thank you.

Thanks, we use these the videos as a supplement to the lengthy descriptions on our ads so we do most of our talking there. Also, you are correct that the car has an exhaust leak. In the full ad to the car, to which there is a link above, we mention the exhaust leak. Thank you for viewing our video!!

i know it's a newb question but how does one know if they are looking at a true "Y82" version? is that number in the VIN or what? Thanks for your answer in advance as this is my favorite car of all time and would like to know what to look for when I run across opportunities in the future to get one.

    • @SevenHillsMotorcars
      @SevenHillsMotorcars  8 лет назад

+tstatech There are a few preliminary signs that the car may be a Y82 such as the special pinstripping, gold grills, gold dash bezel, and gold steering wheel. However, these items can be added to any black Trans Am and there are lots of clones out there. There is designation for the Y82 in the VIN. The only way to truly verify the car is to order a report from PHS, www.phs-online.com/ . Thank you for viewing our video.
