This fully sorted 1977 Trans Am Special Edition is a documented, numbers matching Y82 Special Edition that features Pontiac's highly desirable W72 400 engine, a 4-speed transmission and, best of all, a fresh frame-off restoration.
Assembled at GM's famous Norwood manufacturing facility in April of 1977 as one of only 2,699 Y82 Special Editions, this pristine black and gold Trans Am was shipped right up Interstate 71 to Haydocy Pontiac in Columbus, Ohio where it began a 35 year existence filled with immaculate maintenance and impeccable care. Today, after a highly detailed frame-off restoration, it presents as practically brand new and displays a spectacular coat of GM code 19 Starlight Black paint on top of smooth and solid body panels which are as straight and as the day they left the showroom floor. On top of those cool black panels, a fresh set of Special Edition exclusive full outlining stripes complement an awesome Special Edition exclusive gold and matte gold trimmed 'screaming chicken' hood decal which is one of the most iconic automotive brandings in history.
Pop the black and gold hood and you'll find this Trans Ams all original 6.6 liter W72 V8 which wears a correct 500557 casting number and a correct 27N191886 partial VIN. At 400 cubic inches, the Pontiac 6.6 litre was already the largest engine you could buy in 1977; and by utilizing smaller "6X" heads and a revised camshaft, it created bigger compression and successfully reversed almost a decade of declining horsepower numbers. At the top of the motor, a correct Rochester 4-barrel carburetor sucks air through the cars awesome shaker scoop. Below that carburetor, original GM corporate blue paint coats the entire block; and original exhaust manifolds send spent gases into a high performance factory exhaust system. All the hard parts around the motor, from the belt driven accessories to the brake booster and optional air conditioning hanging on the fire wall are factory correct. And as expected tags, markings and stamps are just where they should be from the date coded core support to the cars freshly cleaned cowl tag.
At the bottom of this slick F-body, solid floorpans tell the story of years of excellent maintenance, and a fresh rebuilt suspension tells the story of an excellent restoration. Behind the motor, an original Borg Warner T10 4-speed transmission, which wears a correct 1304065903 casting number and a correct 27N191866 partial VIN, sends power to an original 10 bolt rear end which has been restored to factory specifications. Below that stellar powertrain, a rebuilt Trans Am suspension, which includes power steering, thicker sway bars, better shocks and stiffer springs combines with standard issue power front disc brakes and rear drums to provide quick stops and great handling. And at the corners of the car, restored aluminum Pontiac snow flake wheels spin Special Edition exclusive gold paint around 'red bird' center caps and correct GR70-15 Goodyear Steelgard white letter tires.
Open this Trans Am's massive black doors and you'll find a fully restored optional velour interior that wraps Special Edition exclusive gold trim in a whole lot of old school style! The cars rebuilt seats are firm, crisp and look every bit as nice and rich as their velour name implies. Below those seats, like-new black carpet, which is carefully protected by factory replacement floor mats, displays no fading or unraveling; and between the seats, a silver trimmed console props buttons for the cars power windows behind a chrome Hurst shifter. At the top of the car, a stain-free headliner is stretched tight around the cars Hurst T-tops. At the sides of the car, pitch black door panels hang pristine pull straps and new chrome door handles below Special Edition exclusive gold badging. And in front of the driver, an excellent looking engine turned gold dash houses crystal clear gauges, controls for heat and air conditioning, and the cars original Delco-GM AM/FM stereo behind a correct gold Formula steering wheel and optional tilt steering column.

38 years old and this model is still robust, sleek and good-looking. It's not often you see classic cars done as well as this.

They just don't come much nicer than this.. Well done.. Great Car...
I first saw one of these black Pontiac Trans/Ams way back in 1978 at a car auction
here in the UK. I think I spent all day looking in awe at this black beauty. I still love
the look of these cars, and have countless photographs of them from car shows.
They still look great today, these cars were never available officially in the UK, yet
quite a few from that era made it to these shores, and still have a big following.
If I was a frickin millionaire this would still be my top dog. It gets NO finer than this.
I had a 78 just like it.
Had one of these in mint condition.. totally regret selling it
