The amount of government involvement in the production of films for influencing public opinion is pretty staggering. The military, CIA, FBI, white house, DOJ all have had a huge influence on Hollywood.
Hey Luc! Hope you're happy and well mate. Ironically enough the actual name Hollywood comes from the "wood of a holly bush" that was considered to be the best wood for use as a wizard's magic wand to cast spells over the people for the king. And here we are today with a cesspool of spell casters utilized by our rulers to hypnotize the people. :) Harry Potter's wand was made of holly.
This is so good dude. Makes you realize how art is so crucial in the transfer of ideas from the academic/intellectual higher up to the general public and their consciousness. Hope much success is coming your way !
This is a great video, Luc! Thanks for taking the leap and sharing some deep thoughts and research on cinema and not only the video business camera gear aspects of it. Much much appreciated
An interesting, but curious video essay! After 32 minutes of well-considered film clips and commentary, I think you did more than take us on a trip down memory lane. I think you made some powerful political statements - without actually ever articulating those statements. Nicely done. And you revealed a few films that I never saw and have now made it to my bucket list. Thanks.
Wow, just filled my playlist with a couple of these films. Great job! Also: these studies of cinema might be a great format for you? Perhaps go meta as you alluded to the innovative use of LED for example. Or get a theme like how cinema influenced tech, futurism , or social believes. Once again: great job! I enjoyed it thoroughly.
This is excellent. I'll admit I was surprised to see this topic come up from your channel in my feed and waited until I had the time to give it to watch. Very well done. Your opinion is fairly clear but you do a great job of not pushing it while giving your usual level headed look at a topic. After pouring... years... of my life into vision driven, informative media and watching the needle continue to move in the opposite direction, this film actually helps me remember that even if it hasn't worked out as I would have liked the decision to try wasn't a misinformed one. Media production is (still) a tool that matters. Thanks.
Incredible work Luc! The perfect example in the UK is the new tv series Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, about the Horizon post office scandal in which branch managers across the UK were wrongly accused of theft and false accounting for almost 20 years from 1999. Even though it was widely known the post office had lied, it wasn’t until a tv drama that suddenly all of our MPs cared and the people finally got the justice they’d been fighting for, for 20 years
As someone that grew up in Venezuela until I was 18, I could tell how any entity with media power can control the people, regardless of what the message is… it can get pretty scary sometimes. This video totally portrait that idea and well, we’ve seen what happens
Really well done. I lived in New York until I was 41. I live in Texas now for the last 18 years. As much as they are different they are the same. Neither state has 100% ideology over the other. You'll find all types. I Bow hunted for Bear in Canada in the 90's. Spectacular place. I don't think there would have been a warm and fuzzy Trudeau feeling where I was. I dunno. I know you are talking about movies but the Netflix Series "House of Cards" I found amazing. People say it's sensationalized or hyperbolic and I get the feeling it doesn't even scratch the surface of what goes on. But I've been a conspiracy junkie since "Lose Change" dropped on CD's a while back. I was living uptown NYC during 9/11. Life changing. I never believe a narrative. Again, really well done.
WOW I was going to comment about my journey down the “ operation mockingbird “ rabbit hole. But then you said 29:45 and it stopped me in my tracks. That was shocking how true it has becoming - blue bracelets and red hats. 😮
Very thoughtful video essay. As a German who loosely followed the US elections and whose government just disbanded, with little reason to believe that the next elections will result in a more effective government, I sure hope we can take something positive away from these movies.
Civil War was great because it didn’t pander to either side while getting its message across. So many shows and films today are ham fisted in their attempts to tell a story with a message and they lose me fast.
Missed the chance to mention Chris Rock’s REVOLUTIONARY film, Head of State, which responded to America’s distrust in authentic politicians and reflected its constituents desire to have a candidate that was more grounded in their personal issues!! Such an important film in America’s history
Something that might be adding to the bias is that a character like Trump was interesting and unique. Whereas a character like Kamala is so stereotypical of Hollywood it’s boring. A woman sleeps her was to the top to get a position she doesn’t deserve. Wow. Not interesting. It’s so belittling of real womanhood that Hollywood would never make a movie like that - just more and more female roles being a boss babe or sexual icon. But the media will never say it like that.
this is boutta blow up
also congrats on 100k subs!
Nope.
Bro, I thought you said last week that you were slowing down. This is not slowing down. This is the opposite of slowing down.

If only those on the left had any influence on Hollywood they could use to counteract that….

A well stated, non-biased delve into Hollywood and it's influence on politics. BRAVO!
Well researched and presented. Definitely a must watch.
Thanks a lot!
Amazing topic! It was great to meet you Thursday Luc. You're certainly the same approachable guy your channel would suggest👍.

Great video. Very well put together and loved all your thoughts on the topic.
Very nice tangent from the usual content (which is great BTW) Thanks

Loved going through this history. Great job!

Great video.
You forgot about Richard Nixon's "Sock it me" moment on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in TV show.
The graphic on the first segment of vice is wrong. Great video. Great work. Would love to have a live debate about this topic.
Thanks for pointing that out!

I love that Team America made the list, classic 😂

What the fc is a kilometeeeeeeeeerrrrr (M16 sounds )
Ah, the good old "some of my best friends are American" pre-emptive defence.
OMG. You got Team America. I was an enormous fan of you, as we have so much in common, now I am a fan for lfe 😂❤

Love the Hamilton watch🫡🫡🫡

Outstanding video essay! Congrats on your 100k subs and your channel's new chapter. PS: I don't like Trump either.
80 views in 20 minutes he fell off!!! Just kidding luc nothing but love!
Noice
Lol
When someone says they’re not gonna promote one side or the other, get ready, cuz there’s gonna be a lot of it.
Well why show that crap.
Unsubscribed. You should have stayed out of it. Your bias is obvious. I and many others have no time for it.

Dont worry Luc, i am sure most will agree with you 🙌🏻
