Back in the 90's hey day, it was the coolest thing around
Yes they were well made real denim not the stretch we see today

And Marky Mark didn't help IMO
CK = H&M for the last 20 years
That Las Vegas plastic surgery is a tragedy.
Which is even more bizarre because he is straight.
Calvin to the Plastic Surgeon: Today I want the Halston #4
He could afford better. Kinda sad.
@@DavidMcFarner His personal appearance has nothing to do with the focus of this story
@@sigisingsno duh, but he’s still busted af 😂😂😂
I doubt they can revive poor Calvin Klein. His clothing is a staple of Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Ross Dress For Less. You wouldnt catch me wearing his clothes.
Too many leading.brands from the 80s and 90s got chewed up by their corporate heads longing for greater returns at the expense of the brands identity. Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Anne Klein, and so many others fell victim. Jill Sander, Helmut Lang, Calvin Klein, Prada all defined the minimalist luxury trend then, but they struggle today with competition from copycat brands using cheaper fabrics and cheap, exploited labor, selling at bargain basement prices.
True.
IT:s not only that there are coycats like Zara, ismore that the original designers are not innovating any longer, besides, each brands pioonerrs are not in control anymore,as ifthe subtitute would be the same, c'mon
Finally, in a really coward tendency, brands like CK or Prada now put their eye in the cooycats like Zara cause they are the ones selling big
Is the copy of the copy with no refreshment
Who's to say designer brands don't use exploited labor... oh you need to take the red pill baby...
just bc it costs more, doesn't mean it's higher quality, made more sustainable, or made more ethically..unfortunately
@@veganspace RIGHT on, and the sadest part is that designers premium brands, one of their characteristics usted to be the top quality of the materials ,talking Loewe, being me a kid, you had ultra pricey jackets but they were best leather posible, nowadays they don't even lie faking it, It's just polyester jacket and the cheapest way and form they will get to produce, and you pay for their logo in the clothe
You pay currently lots for a Versace alligator- like jacket, years before you also paid lots but the" top "designers alligator ítems were real, besides that material Indeed was what was making each item 20 times pricier than the rest of regular brands, it was justified, now It's bull
....i have always enjoyed Calvin's work and philosophy...his marketing skills are STILL being studied in the worlds of advertising and marketing...his core tenants has always been that it's about a combination of PHYSICALITY .....SENSUALITY...INDIVIDUALISM..and STYLE....he also has always been about EDGE...his products are CLASSIC enough for suits ....jeans....underwear...and fragrances while pushing the boundaries that YOUTH always bring to pop culture..i wish this new young lady all the best in her work with the brand....
CK lost it super power in high fashion in the 1980's. He was showered with huge amount money from his Jeans and perfume product. this in turn make him greedy and lazy to sweaty over his high fashion. He did little to America high fashion on the runway, Hell! micheal Kor did more . As long as he has a successful jean and underwear line. He will never be able to get back his mojo for high fashion. This is because the consumer see CK as Jean brand and nothing else more thank to his ads. Thank you for help me to catchup.

We can state that selling Calvin Klien Inc to PVH (Phillips-Van Heusen ) in 2002 was the beginning of the end. I don't believe that PVH will be able to reincarnate CK ad leading high- fashion brand. They want to make it another Hilfiger with controversial ads, nothing more.
I was lucky enough to buy CK when he was at the helm. You forgot about Francisco Costa, he was an amazing creative director after Calvin himself. RAF “Sim-ons” not “Sigh-mons” was trying to pick up the pieces after the new owners ran off Francisco.
Veronica, please save our American luxury flagship brand! This show use to be all the buzz under the direction of Francisco Costa and Raf Simons. Raf wasn't a good fit, but I think Veronica can pull off the comeback-hopefully!
Bringing back the ORIGINAL Obession fragrance would welcomed by MANY!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
* The smartest thing the current owners of Calvin Klein can do is to permanently shutter the clothing side of the business. And run what's left as a Frangrance; Eyewear; Footware, SLG and Intimates brand. And keep it within the borderline mass-market / TK-Maxx / Target / Cosco bracket that it currently sits.
* So much has changed in the world that CK will never again enjoy the success it once did. The gang that might wear CK if tried to re-invent remember the brand from its heyday.
* And are acutely aware of how far it fell. (These customers are aged between 30-55 yrs old.)
* They'd feel embarrassed, seriously unhip, and slightly "mid-life crisis" to wear...(or more accurately re-wear)...the brand.
* Meantime...the younger kids of today who might have worn the brand...(ie: The kids aged between 20yrs-35yrs)...didn't grow up with it. They more associate it with being a brand that's got more counterfeit product swishing around than it has, authentic.
* They definitely don't see it as a premium or luxury brand. (And quite rightly.)
Trying to revive the brand is akin to attempting to revive Iceberg Jeans, Naf Naf Jackets, Benetton anything, D&G Sunglasses or Pepe Jeans.
* CK has been too badly damaged by cheap counterfeit copies, over-availability...(of the real thing)...waaaaaaay to much product, styles and designs....and an utterly bizarre pricing structure.
* I get it - CK's current owners are keen to recoup some of the...(major)...money the spent buying the brand. But they should cut their losses and run. They're flogging a dead horse. (Even Veronica knows it.) She's simply there b/c the money they offered her was just so good.
* CK...(might just)...be able to re-imerge around 2030. (On a nostalgia ticket.) A bit like 'Gola' sneakers / training shoes.
* But between now and then....."What comes between Calvin's and customers wallets" - Nothing.
tbh I love calvin klein designs, super elegant and sleek clothing...beautiful, I get it at macys at times
Sexual provocation in fashion. To quote Miranda Priestly, “groundbreaking.”
Great piece. Wish her the best in attempting to revive the already household brand.
Because the product doesn't work, so create controversy.
They follow balenciaga if is goes there
Just ask Abercrombie & Fitch....
CK is not cool anymore.. It’s core audience have moved on, got mortgages, had babies. Besides when large corporations buy brands, they start looking at cutting costs thus disrespecting their customers.. case in point LVMH.
@@andrewl8199 anything LVMH is trashy. Overpriced Kmart for Asians.
Calvin K makes clothes that look amazing on the body. And I have to say most times improve the body that’s wearing them. Open a store that’s over priced to liberate people that don’t see it already of the weight in their wallets.
Calvin Klein is a becoming new Pierre Cardin. Cardin back in a day ( 60s,70s) was considered to be innovative, hot , avangarde house. From about 1988 the brand was licensed extensively, you cound found it everywhetre. Now you can go to Poland and find polo shirt, or pair sock in a bloody supermaket next to Puma or Nike. I believe licising destroyed legacy of the brand. Hardly anybody is aware that its fouder was working for Christian Dior and discovered teenaged Jean Paul Gaultier.
Calvin Klein, like Michael Kor saw it's demise by going- as much as 70% off is
like saw it's brand go on a drastic Fire
Sale. Once it goes on that route, it desperate moves,
but it spoiled the brand.
Who can listen to these empty phrases? And what it exceptional about jumping on the woke bandwagon like all fashion houses have done so far. Apart from that the 25 collection looks great. Good luck :)
Sorry, Leoni, I saw nothing that made me turn my head. The days of real fashion are over. Perhaps, someday, there will be a renaissance but until then it is probably best just to leave well enough be.
Calvin Klein male underwear is the worst random thing you can see when the guy is unzipping his pants. No thank you.
I saw him on a date at studio 54 in 78 with Giorgio st Angelo. They were very intimate. Interesting to watch
He walked away with $500 million after its sale.
Not so tragic....😂
That’s actually not that much . Tom Ford sold his brand to Estée Lauder for a billion i think. Klein chela need his own brand and ended up having to really give it away after a lifetime of work. Oh well…
Kelly Klein: the first time I learned about beards.
Calvin Klein is supermarket clothes, super boring.
OF men loves to pose in CK undies on their Instagram.
Calvin looks like my lesbian aunt in that thumbnail
Fka twigs is beautiful. Her music and style is unique and original
Boring!
Good luck. If they can revive Balenciaga with the drek they sell now, CK might stand a chance.
She’s definitely the one that can restore the brand ❤
Poorly constructed
So basically the decline of CK suffered the same affliction to the European houses (LV, Gucci, Armani…) in the 80s with brand dilution, Benneton) through licensing (and weak copyright enforcements)
Using gay looking dudes with pink hair in ad campaign was a killer....
The new creator will turn it too HOT HOT HOT
It will be a bumpy ride!
Omigosh, but watching this made me realise something. Funny, considering that I’d been, to a limited extent - geographically - a fashion veteran, but just goes to show you an old dog can learn new tricks.
Anyway: moving to Japan and landing a job in a non-fashion related field, I’d developed a close professional and personal but non-romantic/sexual (as far as I was concerned) rapport with one of my senior colleagues, American and Baltimore native.
He’d taken to going out with me for drinks on weekends (despite a committed relationship), and one time, we were so drunk in my apartment, we both convinced ourselves it’d be a good idea to do cupping on him…and watching this vid made me remember he had Calvins on at the time and knowing what I know of the mental atmosphere then, could it have been a clue??😅😅
In any case, a few days after that, he said we can’t go on having drinks over the weekend because he “doesn’t want to sh*t where I eat…” and his girlfriend at the time didn’t notice his cupping marks. (!!!😅😅)
Guidance on how to make of that will be appreciated gladly 😅😅
🤔?
Bizarre...(if even linked? to subject matter)...anecdote.
...what is bro yapping about?
"Cutting edge"? Big words... I would reserve this title to the real greats such as Christian Dior, Cristóbal Balenciaga, (or more recently) Issey Mayake, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen.
Launching a pair of jeans in the mid 1970s could hardly be described as "cutting edge". I thought it was Levi Strauss who were the original 19th century inventors of jeans.
Selling "boxers" & "wife beaters"? Again, it believe it was Jockey who invented the "Y" front stretchy underwear. (According to Wikipedia), this happened in 1934, 10 years before the birth of Calvin Klein himself.
I would suggest that Calvin Klein was a master of interpreting the "zeitgeist" and creating a classic line of minimalism that was the perfect "Yin" to Ralph Lauren's preppy "Yang".
They both started their fashion journeys within a year of each other. It is also testament to both native New Yorkers' success stories that they knew instinctively how to use the medium of "marketing' to create their own hype.
Not to downplay their individual "genius" (if that is the appropriate word). However I never saw either brand as "cutting edge". (Just saying).
Ck devalued their brand with cheap shedding pleather. 😡
Calvin Klein has been. But, in fashion, you're only as good as your last collection. Plus, CK is in his '80's....
I know I can get into high fashion but I’m conflicted with the concern of the models behind the business (minor models as well)
From Edgy to Rathole in a decade. Shameful. Vanity gets you nowhere in life ( for long)
I liked CK in the 90’s but trash bags as high fashion is not going to cut it for a comeback.
His brand is '90 fast fashion
it's easy to copy for basic cloth ?
It got to cheep
Im sorry but their design is always....basic....just like most american culture...
Unaffordable. Unf. Unfortunately 😊
