Wes is back and ready to work on his truck! he has a lot to get done before it is ready for the road, but he still has a couple of years until he can drive legally! He is ready to burn the tires of this build!
We lost our son in 2015. He and I always hung out in the shop working on projects jeeps/old chevys/ pull tractors. This video makes me miss him, and melts my heart.. some day I'd love to come out and meet you,Paul,Mat,Rory,Rob.. 👍FROM CADILLAC MICHIGAN
🙏🏁😊❤️❤️❤️
Man I should have found this channel a long time ago. You are great. I am too old to do much anymore but at least you are teaching me stuff. Thank You.
Watching this makes a ole guys heart warm ❤️
Love it Wes! Restores faith in restoring 🙏❤️😎🤙🛻💨
I can't wait for the smile on his face the first drive
Not enough of this done theses days with young guys. Great job!
Nice to have the best teach you how to do things the right way!
This was fun to watch! The fact you let Wes do most of the work is what more kids need. Even dad got in on the learning that's awesome! This episode seemed like going to the high school auto shop teachers Home Garage knowing that you are in good knowledgeable hands! Wes is going to have a really cool looking truck when it gets done and knowing he did most of the work is going to allow him to have the confidence when he breaks down somewhere that he can fix it and that knowledge is priceless! Keep up the great content and work!
Very Nice Good to see the younger ones in to Car’s and Trucks Keep up the good Work Wests
I wish we were neighbors! You are a great mentor.
Whole lot of learning & building going on, good times...
He is gonna love that Pick Up. More so he knows all the work that has gone into it. Great Job all the way around.
Thanks for the memories. Watching the young man working on his first truck brought back memories of my dad and I putting a oil pump in his 1963 Ford Galaxie wagon in a Michigan winter snow without cover of a garage.
Great to see young folks doing honest work on something they love.
Can't wait to see the finished truck. 👍🇺🇸
Teaching that young fella valuable life lessons. 👍
GREAT video. Merlin is a patient, knowledgeable, and humorous teacher. And Wes is a good student. And Wes is getting an extremely valuable education. Well done all around!
WES welcome back. I'm a old man too, my suggestion is to listen keep your head on a swivel ears open. You have old timers teaching you the ropes, you have a great opportunity, keep up the good work my friend stay safe 👍
Wes, as you know, Merlin is an ornery perfectionist. Keep your mind open and soak up his knowledge. Few young people have the opportunity to learn from the best. 🏆
MERLIN YOUR DOING AN AWSOME JOB WITH THAT BOY ALL HE NEEDS TO DO IS SOAK UP EVERY PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE
Man how lucky to be taught by Merlin! Merlin you should have a contest/raffle or a seminar, to build engine or cars/trucks with Merlin! Awesome Content thanks!
I am so glad you have Wes back and teaching him. Keep up the good work Merlin.
Always have 2 in the box whenever you can, one teaching one learning, too many great characters die off without passing on what they know. Thanks Merlin for being a character, not nearly enough of them these days.
Luv me an educated character.
In the Navy we had Master chiefs we were the "Uncle Jim's" that cursed, drank and made sure you made a good showing of yourself, they were your sea daddies.
My nice came over and asked if I could show her how to build a 302 for her car and I thought it was a joke at first but she had it towed to the house and new she was serious about it 6 weeks later she was driving her home great video and great job with the kiddo God bless from GA stay safe 🙏
Merlin you awesome for teaching that young man thanks
Merlin the engine magician. Has all the intelligence on all engines. Probably can take one apart with his eyes closed. I bet Merlin is one of the best engine rebuilders in the Western USA.
If I could afford it I have an LS put in my 2001 XJ
It's very positive to see a young person with the right upbringing. My respect for you his dad and you for seeding into him the value of hard work.
Good day there Wes sounds like you had a good summer get ready to work now .Get the kid going there sir Merlin well done guy's
Have a Blessed Sunday !!
Merlin...the comments prove your Subscribers, myself included, love watching you teach and coach Wes as you help him with his truck project build...it's a way good thing you are doing learning him up right to all things mechanical and passing on your vast knowledge and experience to a young man. He will likely do the same one day with his son or a nephew or neighbor kid in his town, as it should be. We can't wait to see this project build progress with Wes. We really like seeing Jimmy in your videos too, you and he are obviously good friends and he knows some things he can share or help out with which is great. Keep recording and sharing your awesome automotive/mechanical toys videos and thanks for doing what you do, old school!
I'm partial to Jimmy myself.
So nice to see Wes back learnifying
That driveway can tell some cool stories. Great video
Wes congrats on the cart championships my brother! Now the lq9 is good for one thing... Burnouts!
Hope Wes is paying attention. He is in the presence of a master mechanic. Reminds me of my youth with my mechanic mentor. Skills for life to forever be passed down to next generation.
My youngest daughter is finishing reviving her 50 Chevy for her first vehicle she's making me be supervisor because she wants to be able to tell the snobby boys what she did to her truck and let them know she built hers daddy didn't write a check for what she pointed at it was the first truck her great grandfather bought new we drug it out of the back of the old machine she'd last summer and tore it apart it's hard not jumping in and doing stuff to get it done faster but it's also a proud moment knowing she can do it and actually learned while helping in the shop after it's finished she had a rear window banner made that says built not bought her next project is a late 50s apache grain truck we're going to build a 13 ft flatbed for it and put 4x4 1 ton axles and suspension with an LS and a 5 speed to pull her horse trailer in style
@@davidwoermansr Exciting to hear her enthusiasm for building and creating her own stuff. Maybe in the future she will get savy and create her own brand of goods.
@@WestCoastRoller I have a feeling she'll be the 1 that keeps my mechanic shop going after I retire she wants to go to school for gas and diesel mechanics and auto body and collision repair so it'll probably expand while I tinker around my salvage yard in my old age maybe I'll have time to organize it better and get some crushed that are picked to nothing
I've worked in a few garages with quite a few mechanics and Merlin tops them all by far
You got the kid learning real fast. I remember those days of torquing down a Ford straight six’s head.
WOW... a 6.0 in that pickup!!! That thing is going to be awesome!! Going to need some pretty beefy tires to hold that horsepower!!! This is going to be an awesome build!!! Wes is learning a ton working with you, Merlin!!! LUCKY KID!!
Great seeing knowledge being passed from generations down. Your a unique Saint Merlin!
It's nice to see that you are passing on the hot rodding tradition to the younger generation! Wes seems like a great young man. Good on you!!! Love it!
Every time I go to fix something ,if I know how or don't I think back to all the things my grandfather had taught me I still find that even some of the simplest lessons impact the most difficult tasks
What bailed, thought he was staying and doing burnouts all night 😅🤣 he's doing a great job, keen hope he goes a long way, in life, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Great to see WES again . The teachers Merlin & Jimmy the kids so lucky to be the student . Hes going to have a hot rod truck best part he built it with his hands.
It’s good to see someone take the time too teach the youngster a little hard work an knowledge that can help him down the road I had an uncle that helped me an a stepdad who was a mentor a great man that didn’t have too but he did an I will never forget him he raised me from one year old .
It was good to see you again Wes
Good stuff Merlin, keep them coming !
I was watching you grill Wes on the wiring harness and the future timeline/next steps (around 36:50 ) and saw your Pepsi clock in the background, Thumb up! Then you were playing "foreman" and said all you need is a Pepsi . . . Good job from one Pepsi guy to another - though I switched to diet about 30 years ago.
It's good to see Wes back working on his truck - and you guys breaking his toes as he does it. Keep up the good work
Great Video MR Merlin .. so how many hours of school per day .. your teaching is great . when Wes is done he might know where every bolt and wire go's and what every wire runs ,,
Hey Merlin man you ROCK what your doing for that kid is amazing so much knowledge you have and showing him and having HIM do the work is so Freaking Cool Right on Brother love you man Thank you for sharing your knowledge with Wes ❤️✌️☮️👍💪🏻
Imagine a MERLIN who had little tolerances for mistakes and cussed like a drunken sailor! THAT was my uncle JIM! To teach me how to weld at the age of 8 he dumped a pile of scrap steel on the ground outside the door to the shop and handed me a hood and some rods and said(when you can make it stick together WE will tear it apart and do it again) WE meaning ME😨 by the end of that summer he had me welding roll cages and grill guard's for his Four X Four shop! 😁 he passed away 5 yrs ago- I miss him dearly! People come up to me all the time and start talking to me thinking I'm him- we look identical! As every male on my mom's side of my family we all look like clones!
AWESOME! looking good everyone!
Love this kid... Stay cool Wes 😎
That’s awesome you’re a lucky young man Wes that’s my favorite body style Chevy with the big back window and fleet side short bed sweet truck and hell yeah Wooooooooo!!!!!!
I have that same dent side in the background. same color. 4wd 400 4spd
It’s cool to see you watch the kid work instead of having the kid watch you work .
Good job guys
👍👍right on man.....thanks for another video 👊🍻
Good to see Wes back for the next round.
Excellent, I was just wondering/asking about WES and his truck last week. Very good deal.
Sweet safe travels wes keep with it the payoff is worth it great work everybody.
Awesome video. Merlin. I have two boys and both of them had no interest in hot rods. It was a bummer for me as I had my first dirt bike at 10, could do my own repairs and maintenance by 12 bought my first car at 15 and started my first hot rod a day later. I was hoping the apple wouldn't fall far from the tree to bad it didn't. But I have helped many older people build their first rod or motor. Keep up the awesome and work.
Right on dude!! Ur a great teacher!!! Im from Ohio also!!
If you don't watch out, you & Jimmy might make an old car buff out of him yet👍👍😊
Just a joke, it's good to see these young kids of today interested in this type of thing.
He will learn alot of valuable skill that will help him in life as he gets older.
I hope Wes understands the awesome position he is in having hands on tutelage under someone who knows his stuff….good one Merlin….God bless y’all.
Education Sunday!
That kid is really learning a lot. He’ll appreciate that truck of his I bet.
I’m 38 and I learnt some things so I’m sure young Wes did.
Those kinda skills, & lessons, will last a lifetime... Lol, & I've expounded on the "7 P's" for decades. And "Be Aware". Musta worked, my son's got his CDL & Crane licenses... Thanx for teaching foundation skills !
Hard work always pays off.
They build those Hummers in my backyard litterly. I built a substation at that GM plant last year because of the electric needed at the factory to produce/charge electric Hummers. Biden gave GM some crazy amount of $ to update that GM plant. The day he came to the plant all of us construction workers had mandatory day off. Cause all the media coverage from last time he came to a job site in Detroit pissing off construction workers lol.
Melling makes a cool little clamp for the oil pickup tube to pump. It holds about 50% of diameter of tube down.
This one had two screws so it was 100%
Thank you for teaching a young made trade skills.
Good deal guys excited to see this one !!
When I weld down in the hole deeper I use a short piece of copper tubing to slip in the hole so I don’t burn the threads while I’m building up the weld
Well done for passing it on Merlin 😎
That kid is experiencing something that most others will never Maryland. You’re a very special person for teaching him that. These children are much smarter than us. They just don’t know how to harness it.
Go ahead Wes
Merlin reminds me of the drill instructor you'd want in basic training.
Awesome video Merlin!!! I’m definitely glad to see all the things needed done to an LS to swap into a different vehicle!!! I’ve definitely been wanting to swap one into my 1981 GMC 1Ton 4x4 but have been kinda trying to learn all the ins and outs of them before trying to tackle one!!! That’s the way I have learned is watching and hands on things!!! At first I had absolutely no idea on how to anything on one but after seeing what others have done definitely gives me a better idea on what to do!!! My confidence has definitely went up and I’m definitely going to start looking for an engine here know!!! Well remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!
It was a pleasure to see you working with this young man. I have a question. In your honest opinion, what is the best oil filter brand on the market?
Hey! you also know bob the bouwer?😂😂
Nice job Wes👍
Greetings from Holland
Wes’s dad isn’t too far from me. I’m in Spring Valley, Ohio.
Going to be a cool pickup
Mr merlin your killing me that baby blue ford you been hiding brother show it off I got a red one starting on it on January
Quite an education that young man is getting! 💪👍🏼
Good job Wes!!! Everybody guna want a ride when its dun haha
I love this build. Looking great!!!
I have a 71 shortbed C10. What year 8.8 rear end would fit under those older chevy pickups? I’m interested in doing the same.
Good job Wes
Love the method, he'll learn.
Good job 👍🏼
This dude will not know how lucky he is for a long long time.
Merlin is a hellofateacher!
Learn as much from him
as you can Wes !
👀 🤔 👍🏻
That LS needs a cam swap there's nothing like that LS chop especially for a young man like Wes.
Good job wes, you have a excellent teacher he's trying to help you as you go along that's very inspirational. Love the fact that your going with a ford rear end in a Chevy, but curious if your going with ford axles or are you going to fabricate to Chevy bolt pattern which is 5 on 5? Ford rear ends work very well in my book. I still have my 9" ford rear end in my 98 Chevy S-10 never any issues with it. The stock rear end I had in it couldn't handle the torture but the ford for 24 years taking the abuse with no issues 🤫🤣
MERLIN YOU HAVE THE COOLEST COLLECTION OF CARS PAULS TRYING TO CATCH UP LOL
Jimmy looks like the grumpy old man in the animated movie "UP!"
But the good thing is that he's not grumpy. He's all smiles, and he even knows how to laugh 😅😃😉👍👌✌️!
You're doing an awesome job, Wes! You too, Jimmy.
I’ll be doing similar to teach my nephew in about 12 years, he’s only 18 months old right now so might be too soon. 😂
Your a good teacher Merlin 👍
hey brother that's great showing younger guys the ropes cheers
I know merlin can fix WD monstermax transmission issue.. 2 durmax 2trans 1 truck getting the transmissions to mimic each other I'd look into it you would immediately go viral which is long overdue. the amount of education should be world wide🤘🏽
Take that same EV and take it up to Ohio in the winter and those batteries lose capacity in the cold.
Most young people today don’t know the difference between boys and girls good job Wes 🎉
A Supreme Court justice can't define the word woman so I'm starting to think the kids aren't to blame for that
There is so much truth in that statement, it's sad to see what demonrats are doing to this country!
This is the way! 😎
Good to see old wes back and to see his dad get in there and help out . Now a days your lucky to see a son and dad working together on projects or activities 👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
🇺🇲👍🏼😎👍🏼🇺🇲 Right on passing knowledge and tricks to the youngest, kids these days it's sad
I do not get why all you guys love the LS for a gasser. The Y-block Fords were always my go-to for torque and survivability. The only Chevy motor that competes is Cadillac's certain years of the Northstar. I pulled 25K from Sacramento to Seattle on a bent Y-block in a 1974 Camper Special. I drug it over a scale in Seattle...just because I wanted to know. Nothing fancy about the trailer, it was a bumper pull and it did get squirrely. Ya know how it goes, ya can't load those to pull right....because reasons. I probably would have turned back if I had weighed it before the trip. I mean I knew I was heavy...but I didn't know it had also burnt a valve.
Prepping next generation......well done Sir
This is awesome. I wish I had a son of my own so I can pass down some knowledge. 💪🤙
