So witch engine do like, should ppl wait for the hybrid? Seems the V6 is more reliable easier to fix. Don't like the 2023 plastic grill, the 2024 looks like you could put a 4x4 bumper on with wench making it better than Land cruiser.
The lack of a front locker doesn't dissuade me. I'll wait for the hybrid but the GX is my next car without a doubt.
Looks nice. Looking forward to reviews when released in January. It’s definitely a car you buy and own for a long time. Quality certainly will be there being it’s being built in Japan.
Agree
0-60 in 7 seconds in a vehicle off that size is fast to me!
I like how Scotty is able to hold back some sarcasm during these reviews. I didn’t think he could. 😁
It may have a turbo, but at least it's not a ridiculous EV.
I'll give you that. Based on Scotty's Tundra video I bet it's slow
Agree. I hope toyota make a non-hybrid sequoia like this.
Hi Scotty, Toyota have to built Gas paddle touch the floor not to make your leg so tired❤❤
Only a matter of time there thomasking, they are the future; get over it
@@sdcoinshooterOkay😊
The Overtrail edition has both center and rear lockers. When combined, there is a 50/50 split of power to front/back axle + locked rear wheels which will spin in unison. This will get you out of even situations with diagonal traction loss (two diagonal wheels in the air). There really isnt much of a difference in performance compared to ALSO having a front locker except in the most extreme of offroading situations. Most people are already heavily modifying their vehicles by this point for things like extreme rock crawling. Just my two cents.
Has Scotty Kilmer been replaced with an A.I? This video is way to polished and nice. Where is my shaky cam in a driveway? Where?!?!
I am am actually interested in buying a 2024 GX once I pay off my GS350. I love the looks of this vehicle!
My 2014 GS 350 is in shop at moment, couple minor repairs. Have a 2023 GX loaner. My first time driving a GX and man it is so much better than the RX. As someone who has mostly driven trucks before my GS, I love the way the GX drives. I’ll definitely be interested in the redesigned GX once some used ones become available after customer leases expire.
@andrewflores9643 Yeah man! My dad is excited to buy one as well! It should be at the dealer any day now.
I think if Lexus would mate a new 10 speed tranny to an old V8, the fuel efficiency would be the same as with the new V6 turbo. Actually that is exactly what people were asking for
That’s why GX460 can sales so long and people like it. Good old days always gone.😢
Everyone would want the V8 no turbo. Although a V8 turbo package would be interesting.
they cant these companies are getting screwed by our government with regulations right now remember that at the next presidential election this current group is pushing stricter emissions and EVs like mad
If they could do that I'm sure they would. But they cant because of emissions. That's why every manufacturer is going turbo: V6 to T4, V8 to T6.
absolutely. toyota is moving to the v6 to comply with US emissions regulations. this has been discussed to death.
I really liked this video it’s very informative thank you for that. Wondering can you make a video just like this but for the new Land Cruiser ‘24 please 🙏.
He already completed the history of the LC from the tail end if this video. 😂
I had a 2007 GX470. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Love me sum Lexus SUV
The front locker doesn’t lock the front wheels to the rear wheels. The center differential lock does that and is standard on the GX550. A front locker locks the two front wheels together to spin at the same rate regardless of traction. For me, the key Toyota traction aid is A-Trac which operates in 4L and sometimes is better than a rear locker in managing power to the wheels that have traction.
Having additional engine options like a inline-4 Diesel and a 4.0 V8 engine option plus the Front Locker.
Looking forward to see a review of LC250 😎🤝
Love how the green color changes depending on lighting conditions. Looks incredible on this new GX.
Should look at the new Cadillac Escalade IQ. It shocked the whole industry yesterday.
You couldn't give me a new Cadillac
Trash.
GM doesn’t exist to us. We want cars that actually work forever.
Scottie this one is very well produced. You are the best in the car world
I have a 2006 Lexus 470. Great vehicle! Best I ever owned. Power and off road its #1 . Gas mileage is horrible with premium only! But I love it !
Great video!!!
Since the GX 460 has proven long-term reliability and fairly strong aftermarket support in the off-roading industry, I would not suggest buying the 550. At the very least, wait 2-3 years for Toyota/Lexus to work out the bugs. Regardless of how many bugs they work out, just know that there's little to no chance that the turbo will ever last as long as their bulletproof V8.
I trust Toyota to make a reliable turbo. They have had a turbo diesel in the Land Cruiser for a long time now
Great you wait then. Meanwhile I'll be styling
In Israel, a few months ago, a Toyota Hilux just got over 2 million kilometres, using the original engine. This is a turbo diesel engine.
We have two gx460 and a runner in the household. Not looking to go turbo.
Turbo diesel way more reliable than any turbo gasser. Sorry.
Love it! BUT please bring back horizontally-split rear tail-gate. So practical. So sensible. So convenient 😅
They Look Like They're Designed For It Too
@@SupremeKai_OmniverseI reckon when the Land Cruiser Prado lands in the middle east and Australia, there will be an option for the horizontal tail gate with the spare wheel attached on it, allowing for an extra fuel tank where the spare wheel is now
As one who goes to the car wash if my tires even touch dirt, I NEED THIS
Haha the closed-eye Scotty stickers cracked me up. Editing gold
Love the GX and the LX
Hey Scotty love what you r doing but can you please do video on the TX
We are on our second GX460 and we love em. Luxurious, comfortable, bulletproof.. just awesome vehicles.
I think they got the looks perfect and the 3.4L twin turbo sounds fun
This vs the Toyota Landcruiser which one do you pick?
Just put an order in for one , Sand overtrail with chateau/olive interior , looking like May 24 delivery , my 4th lexus , 2 nx and 2 rx350s , never had any issues, I can't wait for this to come in. In my opinion its one cool looking suv with great reliability history .
I think that adding the locker is still way better in terms of cost of ownership than going for G class or a Range Rover. The gas mileage will be dwarfed by these cars' mechanic charges, not to mention the times spent at the shop. As for the size, well, this is customer specific.
What happened to the retro intro and outro with the bell toll? I love them.
I'm a Lexus owner and love it! I have a GX but would rather have the LX. Maybe one day. I have an 06. Wouldn't do the new ones.
I have a LX570 and it is great. I love it. BUT, it does cost a lot of more money to fix and maintain. The 13 mpg city isn't a lot of fun too. I do a lot of miles for my work so I've already done the big 110,000 tune up/repair period. Cost me $11,900 to replace all the warn out steering components and new shocks and struts. Had to replace the water pump and the spark plugs were outragously expensive. If you have the cash get one for sure. Mine is a 2017 with 133,800ish miles and I hope to keep it forever.
@@SuperSnakePlissken that is awesome! I would love to take yours out for a ride! I want the 2006 LX 470 with low miles. Believe it or not I get about 20 mpg on the interstate. I don't do 70 though. I do 63 tops. I even get about 18 around town but I drive slow, coast up to stop signs, I don't ever floor it to merge unless I absolutely have to. I call it mellow driving. It's actually been good for me mentally too. This says a lot
considering I use to race stock cars.
@@elijuh3My LX570 gets 13.5-14.5 city depending on how hard I drive it. Highway it will get 18.5'ish pretty consistently. I don't complain about that at all due to the fact it is a 5.7L V8 and AWD/4WD.
I debated heavily on getting a LX470 when my wife and I were in the market, and it pretty much came down to two things. 1.) the 5.7L V8 had a lot more power and was a chain and not a timing belt. I looked into that maintenance and it was $3500 to change back in 2017 so I cannot even imagine what it is today (that included the tensioner and waterpump). Overall, the 5.7L V8 driving experience paired to the six speed transmission just drove so much better than the LX470 I had test drove.
2.) The other thing was my wife and both preferred the styling of the LX570 and creature comforts that it had over the LX470...and the lights! The headlights were absolutely far superior on the LX570.
Is the LX470 a bad vehicle of course not. To each their own.
INDEED….. ‼️💄💋
My 2010 LX 570 gets an average of 16.5 mi per gallon mixed highway city driving. You shouldn't have had to replace any steering components at 110,000 mi.
I sold my 04 GX and have missed it so much. I plan to get a GX again
I was looking to pick one up, but was going to wait to see what hybrid they are going to offer, the 4 cylinder iForce or V6 iForce
Scotty my grandma recently purchased a new Lexus NX300 with the turbo how do you feel about theses?
Hey Scotty, so I am interested in the overtrail. But do you think I should get the V6 or wait to see what Hybrid comes out?
Scott thanks
Waiting to see price has tow capacity of 90,000 land cruiser. If you can get that for 75,000, quite an improvement. The width is large enough to tow a horse trailer without changes, something novel (a off roader for the horse crowd)
We were in the market for a 7-seater to upgrade our 2013 Parhfinder. Wifey wanted a Lexus so we looked at the 2023 GX. The third row was a joke. And to rub salt in the wound, they didn’t pay for that cramped third row with generous cargo space. Forget about suitcases. We couldn’t even fit groceries back there.
Nobody can compete with Lexus/Toyota for SUVs on capability, value for money, and reliability. Toyota is smart to focus on all drives trains right until the end. They will pick up all the remaining demand that other manufacturers can no longer address due to the fact that will die taking on too much, struggle with the transition, etc…The advantage of the deep pockets of Toyota…They can do it all…
deep pockets of toyota...? They have a debt of over $200 BILLION !!
Overpriced as hell.
@@swanvictor887 Okay, I have no idea what their balance sheet looks like. I do know that they have capability to deliver a lot more than most manufacturers regardless. This is an indisputable fact. We don’t need to talk to their accountant to know that.
@@rashodm7129 What isn’t? At least you’re getting something for your money.
@dlj1285 you could get your money worth in anything cheaper than a Toyota/lexus. Paying 100k for a Toyota is outrageous, and it gets worse with the rebadged lexus.
Scotty thinking about a GX 460, what model year would you recommend
The issue with 4Runner is most dealer markup the MSRP while GX460 was deeply discounted. When I was shopping for a 4Runner TRD Pro back in 2018, the dealer with stock wants $5000 markup. But the Lexus next door is offering $6500 off on GX460 😂 so I bought GX instead.
10:03 chart is WRONG. After the FJ-40 the "more luxury" branch has been split starting with the FJ-55, then followed by 60 series, then followed by 80, 100, 200, 300 series. Meanwhile 70 series has appeared at the same time as the 60 series, as a more robust cheaper option and the sub-split heavy/light duty has happened there too, where the 70-heavy duty kept its original form more or less up to this day, and light duty 70-series was given the name "prado" and has started its own model line 70-90-120-150-250. The 80 series is the direct successor to 60 series not 70.
Ive got a 2006 GX 470. Only at a 146,000 miles. Not gonna get rid of it for 20 more years. That old all wheel drive v8 just goes no matter what.
It looks amazing.. amazing 😍
I live in NYC. I at least see 3 GX on the street everyday far from unnoticed
Lexus looks at G Wagon: you want boxy? I'll give you boxy!
love that animation👌👌👌👌
How much does the average mark up on a new car from the factory
90k+ is a huge price difference than the previous gen … you could get a used one for roughly 30k+
the 2.4 turbo hybrid variant should be around 27mpg
also didn't think the LC80 was a prado LC90 is
Current gen 4Runner is truly a steal even if it’s not v8
Agree, I own a Lexus and find their customer support is poor at the dealership level, and if you take issues up to Lexus of North America in Plano, Texas, they also look the other way unless they can charge your credit card.
Stay away.
I love this NEW GX !!!!
The moment I consider purchasing a new vehicle, I gotta see what Scotty says first. He knows his stuff.
If you can buy a Lexus, you can afford the fuel. The 2023 was getting dated though.
Agreed... The vehicle if freaking huge, what do people expect.
Yes. A lot of people now can afford to buy Lexus brand because of it’s name and reliability. But why they have to sacrifice to pay more for gas mpg as daily user. Plus most of the car manufacturers are now going for Hybrid or EV. Save environment!
Correct. We're talking an extra $500 a year in gas to have the sickest ride. All good
@@robc7323 GX460 is not huge. It’s smaller than 4Runner and MDX I’ve owned
I have a 2006 GX470 that i love! It's at 215,000 miles! I've kept it up over the years doing all the scheduled maintenance and more! Recently, the back rear window slid off the rail and broke the motor need to replace entire kit for 2.5k to get the window up. In addition, the mechanic discovered 5 oil leaks? but no oil shows on the garage floor? $6.5k out the door to fix. is it worth it or should I sell for parts and get into a new Lexus? Which then leads me to next question, which one? Any thoughts from the community would be appreciated!
I’ve been waiting for Scotty’s review.
Coming soon to a couple parking spaces near you!
It is apparent those disparaging a turbo do not drive at high altitudes much. A world of difference. This said, hope they thought of access to the turbos. I think there is a way around it, with difficulty, but to access the turbos on the Tundra, dealers were having to lift the cab from the frame, not a trivial task.
It needs the 3.3L V6 Diesel engine from the 300 you would get 30mpg+
The government has all but killed diesel engines in the US.
The Gap Band did the same thing back in the 80s.
Good jobs from Toyota for the new design!!
While I don't like the idea of a turbo six in the LX or LS, having it in the GX seems fine. If my 1999 ever gives up the ghost, I may look into one.
Can't lie but dang that looks good!
This turbo thing is gonna be a big future problem. The new land cruiser is 4popper too. What's up with that?!
Fuel efficiency. You can thank government regulations for that.
@@MFS45 i love the new land crusier from a style perspective but once i saw its a hybrid only i made a hard pass its a damn shame at least give me a v8 option for the guys who tow and wanna bring extra gear for trips.
@@leanbean8962they’re never going to make another V8 sadly. They probably already phased out the equipment for making them.
I hate the planned-obsolescence appliance future of cars…
@@leanbean8962the LC can still tow, although it might be more wear and tear on a little turbo engine
Toyota has had turbos since 1940 , if there’s problems it won’t be like American buy low sell high parts . They’ll stick with higher specs and constant revaluation . It’s their legacy
Im glad they also kept the ICE (all gas) version of it, not everyone wants a Hybrid 🥊
Scott does that 2023 gx really need premium fuel??
This GX is insane! 🔥
It's a gorgeous one ! . The third row seat supposedly, supposed to be more comfortable for Adults, but it's not really larger enough for Adults , for it classes ! . .
Probably come with the 4cyl turbo hybrid that’s coming in the Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser and this share the same frame.
It’s a V6 or a V6 hybrid.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is making a comeback to America for 2024 but it will be smaller than the Sequoia and only seat up to 5, the starting price would be $55,000 it's to match up with Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, and Land Rover Defender.
need to bring the LS400 back, and keep it simple and elegant: fuel sipping conservative v8, good looks, simple electronics, quality materials and legendary reliability to 1 million miles
I wish the LS would go back to its roots. That was one of the best vehicles in the world in my opinion.
The rear side-opening door on the GX was a deal breaker for me. Though a little boxy for my taste , the new tail gate will have me give it a look again.
Nobody can talk me out of getting the GX 550 lol.
Wait a couple of years for "new model bugs" to be worked out. From about 2026 model year it will solid
Turbos are not reliable in the long run you will have expensive issues later down the road. The 2023 gx460 has a reliable v8 that has proven the test of time. Companies are moving to turbo, they are just a cheap way to squeeze horsepower out of a tiny engine.
@@anthonycabanas8572 All engines eventually have expensive issues, in the long run. The GX will have the exact same Dakar Rally dominating engine from the 300 Series, which is Toyota's global halo vehicle, engineered to last over 2 decades in 3rd world countries and countries with harsh climates, like the middle east and Australia, and remote regions of Asia. Nothing will last longer than the new GX, just like only the 4Runner can last as long as the current GX
@@RomanVarl If this were a western built Toyota, I would agree! However the GX is being assembled in Toyota's best plant in Japan, along side their iconic halo vehicle the 300 Series Land Cruiser, Lexus LX etc. Everything going into it is existing working technology. Even the engine is from their 300 Series, and the platform has been in use for several years now. There will be no "new model bugs" that are worth anyone not buying it, because the bugs have been worked out in other platforms
@@lunamaria1048 it's not about assembly at Tahara Aichi plant, which is world-class, I agree. New model means a lot of new parts, supplied by several hundred sub-contractors\suppliers. There will be component failures 120% probability and possibly recalls first 1-2 years. This is true for all brands, all models, any assembly. With Toyota less than others, which is why people love it for reliability. But it does happen to anyone.
Love my 2007 GX 470. It gets 16.7 MPG. I don’t mind. It’s a comfortable, solid vehicle.
I have a 2011 LX. I don’t mind the 16mpg as well, it has been a solid vehicle.
I'd love to see the old 4.7 V8 with a 10 speed transmission
Full time all wheel drive is stupid
Scotty what is the spray that you always recommend to spray on the rubber?
But is the entire auto industry shocked?
End of the road for *insert car manufacturer here*!
Awesome styling - home run
Finally good looking Lexus
Love the new GX.
I’m liking it!
Hi sir i have 10000 us dollars and i have brand new Toyota camry , question : what kind of second hands SUV you will suggest me to buy as i have 5 members family plus new born baby and as i am Toyota fan i need some SUV for weekend only ?
SCOTTY, I want a cool car. What do you recommend? Something reliable that will still turn some heads.
Thanks Scotty, I really enjoy your educational programs
I will get the Lexus Gx when it comes out in hybrid
i drive a 2007 GX470 and its the best vehicle I have ever owned. I traded in my 2017 Tacoma pro after i bought the GX, thats how much I love it.
Either this new GX hybrid variant or the new TRD Pro Tacoma. The GX, I’ll probably wrap it, ceramic coat it, and tint it. That’s pretty much it. A smooth and quiet ride. Now the Taco, I will definitely put about $20,000 worth of mods to it considering how much you can do to those trucks. Do I want to become a sensible more matured person with a quiet and comfortable ride or never ending list of mods just for it to become a decked out grocery getter? I hate camping or dirty car. There, I admitted it. 😂
I’ll wait for the 2025 model. I’m hearing it’ll be a lot of things that’ll be added plus more options.
Not sure if someone mentioned this but at around the four minute and 50 second mark you show the overtrail model with the third row and it doesn’t come that way
Just buy the new land cruise base model and go crazy on aftermarket
I love the new styling in that tan color. That's my next car.
I like the interior and technology that is standard in the new 2024 GX. However, I prefer the v-8 and its proven reliability. So much so that I went out and bought a 2023 GX once I learned what the 2024 model is offering.
Lexus IS the most valuable luxury suv makers in the business. But still very expensive.
It's gonna be a sad day when that NA V8 is gone!! One the most reliable and quietest and smoothest ever made!! V8 every time!!!
From $59k to $92k is a ridiculous mark up!!! I refuse to bend a knee to this greed!!!
I configured one online and mine was only 77,000 for the highest trim...?
"More attractive" cousin...the 4runner. I disagree. The GX looks SOOOOO much better than 4Runners and the GX drives amazing. A quiet and smooth V8 unlike the slow v6 in the 4runners.
The new Lexus GX is just a fancy Land Cruiser
Land Cruiser PRADO. Not a true Land Cruiser as we know it.
I was always told that the GX was 4 runner based and that the LX was Land Cruiser based. Different from what you state. Also, some of your words did not match the writing in the video. I do love my 2018 LX!
I love how i dont have to speed up Scotty's videos.
