      So witch engine do like, should ppl wait for the hybrid? Seems the V6 is more reliable easier to fix. Don't like the 2023 plastic grill, the 2024 looks like you could put a 4x4 bumper on with wench making it better than Land cruiser.

    The Overtrail edition has both center and rear lockers. When combined, there is a 50/50 split of power to front/back axle + locked rear wheels which will spin in unison. This will get you out of even situations with diagonal traction loss (two diagonal wheels in the air). There really isnt much of a difference in performance compared to ALSO having a front locker except in the most extreme of offroading situations. Most people are already heavily modifying their vehicles by this point for things like extreme rock crawling. Just my two cents.

    The front locker doesn’t lock the front wheels to the rear wheels. The center differential lock does that and is standard on the GX550. A front locker locks the two front wheels together to spin at the same rate regardless of traction. For me, the key Toyota traction aid is A-Trac which operates in 4L and sometimes is better than a rear locker in managing power to the wheels that have traction.

    Since the GX 460 has proven long-term reliability and fairly strong aftermarket support in the off-roading industry, I would not suggest buying the 550. At the very least, wait 2-3 years for Toyota/Lexus to work out the bugs. Regardless of how many bugs they work out, just know that there's little to no chance that the turbo will ever last as long as their bulletproof V8.

      I have a LX570 and it is great. I love it. BUT, it does cost a lot of more money to fix and maintain. The 13 mpg city isn't a lot of fun too. I do a lot of miles for my work so I've already done the big 110,000 tune up/repair period. Cost me $11,900 to replace all the warn out steering components and new shocks and struts. Had to replace the water pump and the spark plugs were outragously expensive. If you have the cash get one for sure. Mine is a 2017 with 133,800ish miles and I hope to keep it forever.

      @@SuperSnakePlissken that is awesome! I would love to take yours out for a ride! I want the 2006 LX 470 with low miles. Believe it or not I get about 20 mpg on the interstate. I don't do 70 though. I do 63 tops. I even get about 18 around town but I drive slow, coast up to stop signs, I don't ever floor it to merge unless I absolutely have to. I call it mellow driving. It's actually been good for me mentally too. This says a lot
      considering I use to race stock cars.

    • @SuperSnakePlissken
      @SuperSnakePlissken 10 месяцев назад

      @@elijuh3My LX570 gets 13.5-14.5 city depending on how hard I drive it. Highway it will get 18.5'ish pretty consistently. I don't complain about that at all due to the fact it is a 5.7L V8 and AWD/4WD.
      I debated heavily on getting a LX470 when my wife and I were in the market, and it pretty much came down to two things. 1.) the 5.7L V8 had a lot more power and was a chain and not a timing belt. I looked into that maintenance and it was $3500 to change back in 2017 so I cannot even imagine what it is today (that included the tensioner and waterpump). Overall, the 5.7L V8 driving experience paired to the six speed transmission just drove so much better than the LX470 I had test drove.
      2.) The other thing was my wife and both preferred the styling of the LX570 and creature comforts that it had over the LX470...and the lights! The headlights were absolutely far superior on the LX570.
      Is the LX470 a bad vehicle of course not. To each their own.

    10:03 chart is WRONG. After the FJ-40 the "more luxury" branch has been split starting with the FJ-55, then followed by 60 series, then followed by 80, 100, 200, 300 series. Meanwhile 70 series has appeared at the same time as the 60 series, as a more robust cheaper option and the sub-split heavy/light duty has happened there too, where the 70-heavy duty kept its original form more or less up to this day, and light duty 70-series was given the name "prado" and has started its own model line 70-90-120-150-250. The 80 series is the direct successor to 60 series not 70.

    I have a 2006 GX470 that i love! It's at 215,000 miles! I've kept it up over the years doing all the scheduled maintenance and more! Recently, the back rear window slid off the rail and broke the motor need to replace entire kit for 2.5k to get the window up. In addition, the mechanic discovered 5 oil leaks? but no oil shows on the garage floor? $6.5k out the door to fix. is it worth it or should I sell for parts and get into a new Lexus? Which then leads me to next question, which one? Any thoughts from the community would be appreciated!

    It is apparent those disparaging a turbo do not drive at high altitudes much. A world of difference. This said, hope they thought of access to the turbos. I think there is a way around it, with difficulty, but to access the turbos on the Tundra, dealers were having to lift the cab from the frame, not a trivial task.

However the GX is being assembled in Toyota's best plant in Japan, along side their iconic halo vehicle the 300 Series Land Cruiser, Lexus LX etc. Everything going into it is existing working technology. Even the engine is from their 300 Series, and the platform has been in use for several years now. There will be no "new model bugs" that are worth anyone not buying it, because the bugs have been worked out in other platforms

      @@lunamaria1048 it's not about assembly at Tahara Aichi plant, which is world-class, I agree. New model means a lot of new parts, supplied by several hundred sub-contractors\suppliers. There will be component failures 120% probability and possibly recalls first 1-2 years. This is true for all brands, all models, any assembly. With Toyota less than others, which is why people love it for reliability. But it does happen to anyone.

Now the Taco, I will definitely put about $20,000 worth of mods to it considering how much you can do to those trucks. Do I want to become a sensible more matured person with a quiet and comfortable ride or never ending list of mods just for it to become a decked out grocery getter? I hate camping or dirty car. There, I admitted it. 😂
