  • Once you understand the difference between 8 and 16 bits/channel, you'll have an idea of how it might help improve the quality of adjustments you perform in Photoshop. You'll also learn why 8-bit is often a fine choice to use when opening raw files. Along the way, you'll learn about 0-255 numbers and why histograms are almost always shown at the same size.

Thank you. Your videos are more educational than any others I have seen on youtube over the years on the fundamentals of colour theory , bit depth, channels, etc. You have a gift for explaining concepts in an understandable and comprehensive way.

Thanks for doing a deep dive into colors into your videos, especially the histogram. It brings out the geek in me from old IT days because I see the ones and zeros in the bits and octets. Keep up the great work!

So, I tested the 32bit mode by merging 2 images with the top layer at 50% and I noticed that compared to 16bit mode, 32bit mode looks a bit too bright, like it's more than 50% because the lower layer is harder to see, especially in the bright areas.

Question: If you start in 16-bit but need to go to 8-bit because some PS filters do not work in 16-bit is it worth going back to 16-bit or do you just lose the info?
