As a man who loves engineering but has only a passing interest in railways I've only just discovered the Class 68. It's my new second favourite loco after the Deltic. This is based on the following principles... 1) It's very pretty. 2) There is no 2.
I would say that it is not traditionally beautiful, but it is still a handsome brute. I love it when you hear the traction motors kick in. I am also amazed that such an angry, thunderous beast like this could slip into way onto our railways, almost out of the blue, when low-carbon policies are in the mainstream of policy.
That 68 driver is a bit of a rev head! No need to roar around everywhere. Everything he does seems to be in notch 8, even approaching the red signal! Steady down 'Eddy'!

I saw one of these big old boys pulling a broken train on the Clacton on Sea line the other week,i heard it coming for miles :)

theyre used for alot of things i never thought id see them on, definitely didnt think id see a TPE liveried one at my local station!

What's the horse power of this thing
3,800 bhp from generator; probably well over 3,000 bhp at the traction motors.

@@michaelsnedden6758 I believe its electric sister, the Class 88, has well over 5,000 bhp. But it doesn't sound as good as this one.

@@geraiswaiya2347 our most powerful locomotives are based in western Australia n they have 6000 BHP. But they pull trains that are 7 kilometres Long
Correct me if I'm wrong. Still learning. A "consist" is a consignment of empty wagons and a "manifest" is a consignment of full wagons?
