Hi Mandy, I just found your shop, and I have to say I LOVE your demeanor in your videos. Your voice is pleasant, you present a ton of value without talking loud and fast like so many others do, and I appreciate it! Thank you. You have a new subscriber😊
I'm at 450 listings now, and my next goal is 1k. I've been working and studying and researching for 9+ months, and I'm ready to push my way to success this Q4. Your story is really inspiring for me.
My favorite info I've gotten from you is to design all in the same niche in one time block. It saves so much headache not having to find SEO for ten different niches in a day.
450 listings 😂 your creating buyers fatigue when somone looks at your store they get overwhelmed and store looks more of a dropshipping store rather than a small mom and pop shop.
I just watched a video from an etsy guru and he says more than 1 listings per day would be a suicide for a shop, he says even 4 or 5 is too much and only allows listing 2 products accosinally. Which made me rethink my entire strategy, because I already have a back catalogue of designs for hundreds of products and I was getting ready to list them all on etsy as soon as possible. But now that I've seen your results, I'm comfortable with my plans again, so thank you. Subscribed!
Oh my! Yes, I have seen zero issues with multiple listings per day (and pretty much all of the big successful shops do it - that’s the only way you’ll ever get any kind of volume) 😊 Cheering you on! 💜
Wow, thank you Mandy! I didn't know I needed this inspo, but here I am and feel so motivated! Next goal: 700 listings until October, I'm sharing an Etsy shop with my sister so I think we can do it! Appreciate you!!!
Hi Mandy! I actually saw you first on Cassiy Johnson's channel! I really loved your interview and so I came over here and have been hooked to your videos, just like hers! :D Thanks for the content, and it makes starting my store a LOT easier with all these tid bits you guys give us. ♥ Keep killing it! You're doing great!
Just came across your channel and I really appreciate the clear and concise guidance and sharing of your own success. I have a busy career in the "real world" but I'm wanting to establish a POD business on the side as a creative outlet and also to provide additional financial security for me and my family. I look forward to working my way through your other videos!
I'm so excited for you - POD is great as a creative outlet for sure! Be sure to check out my course playlist if you haven't already on the channel - it'll take you through all of the steps to get you on the right path :) Cheering you on!
Hi Mandy! I’m so happy I found your channel! I have been thinking about starting POD but I am very overwhelmed with all the things. You do an amazing job of explaining things. I’m going to watch your videos and just start!
This was super helpful, thank you!! I just started my shop a few weeks ago and after publishing around 50 designs, I've turned the ads on and have started to collect data. Already discovering some valuable insight.
So glad you found it helpful! It’s not a strategy that everyone loves, but I’m a data person and found it ideal for expediting getting data volume and then using it to make better decisions. 🤓Cheering you on! 🥰
Wauw, im so grateful thank you sweetie! I really resonate with your viiiibe, i will be following your advice with the store i just started and watch and follow all of your content.
I was watching on my tv but I had to break out my phone to leave you a comment! Awesome job with helping give us game! You laid a lot out and in such a easy and relatable way! Thanks!
Thank you for all of your info! You are so helpful!! I've been in business since April and personalization is a struggle for me! I'm practicing but it takes me forever to do one listing. But I am determined to make this work...never give up, right? lol Thanks again for all of you information!
Thank you!! Inspiring!! Im On 70 listings, no sales yet but learning loads. Do you sell mixed products? I sell mugs but would love to do T-shirts as well.
Quite often I start with sweatshirts since they have a higher profit margin. Then if a design is doing really well I will add it to other products like a tote bag or a mug or a tshirt. I'll also add a tshirt version of a design whenever a customer requests it :)
Thank you again Mandy. I have rewatched a few of your masterclass videos, but being 100% new and struggling to understand the batching process of designs, mock ups and being able to send in batches to printify to get so many listings at once. So, I still have a few questions I know I just asked this-I understand making multiple designs for one broad niche as “dogs” then breaking down like you had done for Yorkies and then what do we do? Download all of those to our computer? How do we save those in a file in canva?? Put in a folder? ? Then open it back up and copy it to reuse the same templates and for example for “German shepherds” and download those? Rinse and repeat? And if that’s right -do we add the mock ups in that same file before we download each particular sub niche?? or separately? And how do we get those all to go to printify As multiple listings? I’m sure I’m making this harder than it is. Your videos are AWESOME and you give tons of great advice and inspiration-I’m just a little lost when in the videos the exact buttons you are pushing and saving. I really enjoy your method -it’s a lot like Wholesale Ted (Sarah) and she made a video where she slowed everything down bc she was getting a lot of same questions bc she moved through her process fast without explaining why she did a few things or where she put them. One of her videos was can I put out an X amount of videos in canva in 4 hours. She bathed and used templates just like you…then she made a video explaining her process slowly 😅 however it was just one design and saving it-it wasn’t the whole batch and mock up. I don’t need you to do the whole thing over just maybe scale way down to 2-3 explain or edit your old video and add parts of what exactly you do once you get multiple designs (templets) batches-how to and where we save those and if we add mock ups in same download and then to printify. I know this is long and repetitive. Here is my request 😅and I beg of you and for the others I know that also needs this to get a boost and maybe rank…to do-a video using maybe just 2-3 designs (use same ones from master class if easier) and just show us start from the designs templets where and how to save -then to uploading to printify everything in batches and how you keep all your files organized which will be apparent as you do it. If that’s too much I understand! As always thank you so much!!!!!
I can definitely work on a slower video for that! I’m definitely trying to get better at finding more effective ways to zoom in on what I’m doing while I do the screen recordings, since I know it can get pretty tiny. I definitely appreciate hearing areas that you would like to see more of, so thank you for taking the time to share that with me! I’m so glad you’re here! 😊💚
@@studiomdesignsco thank you for replying!! I love your method and want to follow it to scale out! I’ve been losing hope bc it takes so long for me to do everything the way that I am! Your videos gave me hope that I can do it!!
Thank you for sharing all your wonderful tips. I do need your help, i cant contact Esty. I opened my store and made productd as you had suggested. I need to speak to Esty, and nothing has been working. Why do i need to pay $29 monthly for a store an the carrier doesn't care if I sell products or not? Help, please.
Hi Mandy. Thanks for this nice overview. Are you making many stores for different niches as well? Or just picking one niche and sticking with this? I'm asking because there is so many nice ideas to start with like all the digital items and POD products etc.
My primary shop that I started last year is general, meaning it has a variety of different niches within it - but I do try to get specific with the niches that are in there vs just having generic designs that aren't target to a specific audience. The shop that I built to show in my RUclips videos is a much more niche shop though so that I could use that as an example as well. I personally prefer general shops because I like having the variety of options for designing vs focusing on one specific type (but that's just a personal designing preference - there are lots of very niche shops that are successful out there!).
Question: Some of my competitors have 100 listings but 20,000 sales. these are not nec. all digital download. what, in your opinion, is going on in these circumstances?
I like your strategy of batch task. I’m starting to do research with keywords and design ideas. Then put all the assets I have onto Canva and when I have the time I can just pull up Canva to just design. also when I’m on the go I can design on iPad little at a time.
Thank you so much for your video, it’s very helpful 😊. In one of the comments here you wrote “When I first started I had them all on, let them run for a solid 30-45 days to get enough data, and then would start adjusting along the way (like turning off ads for listings that weren't performing).” Can you clarify on that? So you mean that when it ran 30 to 45 days and its 0 sales we should turn it off? Or do you look at how much it spent and then you decide? If so what should be the number, meaning should I turn it off once it’s spent five dollars and it’s zero sales? What is your golden rule when it comes to that? Also, do you click on “detailed stats” and turn off any irrelevant keywords after the 30-45 days? Or do you recommend not to touch them at all?
There can be lots of variables to ads and sometimes it’s a matter of how much you want to spend. After 30-45 days I’m looking to see which listings are starting to get the most views and clicks. Clicks trigger ad spend, so if they’re not converting into sales (ROAS, return on ad spend), then turn them off. Views without clicks don’t trigger ad spend, so for those I let them keep going longer to see if they start to get picked up over time. If I feel like a listing still has potential sometimes I will let it go a little longer. There is no golden rule for ads unfortunately it’s largely looking at the data and experimenting. A good ROAS number (the far right column in Etsy ads) is at least a 2.00 (meaning your revenue is twice as much as you spent), I personally like to see closer to a 3.00. I also go in and look at the keywords that are bringing in clicks and views under the ads - if there are any keywords that are irrelevant to your item, turn them off (this is part of how Etsy learns what your item is and who it should target), you definitely don’t want to pay for clicks coming from keywords that will never convert 😊
Hi! Glad to find your channel! New to POD and wondering if you have any videos on the customer service side of things? Just got my first order and want to make sure I do things right from the start. Thanks! Great video👍
Congrats on your first order, that’s so exciting! 🎉🎉 I’ll include a link below to one of my course modules that touches a bit on customer service. Depending on your setup with your POD provider there’s generally not a ton that you have to do. The order itself will go to your provider, they’ll fulfill it, and they’re system will update Etsy (assuming that’s your platform and that it’s connected), and Etsy’s system lets the customer know it shipped. Generally works pretty well! Here’s that link - let me know if you run into any specific questions: ruclips.net/video/8DSu0Gt3Bzw/видео.html
I have a show where I make stickers, but I also want to look into POD. I am interested in possibly doing digital downloads too. I am debating if it would be good to have a separate shop for each: physical, POD, and digital or if I could have all of them on one shop. The vibe would be the same (boho/retro) so I don’t know if it would still work or if I should make separate Etsy shops for them.
I think your stickers and POD could definitely be in the same shop. You would use your existing shipping profiles for your stickers and then for POD you’d set up different shipping profile(s) so that they’re accurate for your customers (and production timing will probably be different). For the POD items you also need to set up your production partner settings, and in the description I usually also indicate for the POD items that they “will ship separately from items that I fulfill directly.” Otherwise, it’s pretty seamless to have them together. The only part that gets tricky is the digital downloads, these can sometimes get confusing for customers when they’re mixed into a shop with physical/POD items depending on who they’re targeted for. I’d personally keep them separate, but I’ve come across shops doing it successfully, so it’s not impossible 😊
I'm guessing the Q4 means the fourth quarter of the year. Is that correct? I've also read that the summer season I guess just before Q4 that would be Q3 isn't very lucrative. I will be following your lead setting up my Etsy shop... Thank you for sharing your success❤
Yep, Q4 is quarter 4 (Oct-Dec) and is by far the biggest shopping time on Etsy for most niches. Ideally you want to be prepared ahead of time so that your listings are up, ready, and starting to rank going into Q4 😊
Thanks for sharing your batch workflow. I’m wondering how much you made in profit. I have heard people say they sold $100,000 in revenue but lost money because of all of the fees.
I definitely wouldn’t do it if I was losing money (I would simply just keep running my handmade business full-time). So many new sellers make the mistake of not accurately pricing their products and they aren’t using a profit calculator to set their prices (and then they blame Etsy for the fees). Just like in any business, if you aren’t factoring in all of your costs you are going to lose money. Profit calculators factor in all of the fees and I also factor in running ongoing sales. That way at the end of it I’m still averaging 20-30% in take-home profits which is considered a healthy margin for print on demand. Some products (like jewelry) can have an even higher profit margin, but I design mostly for apparel which is just what I like personally 🤓
@@studiomdesignsco Thanks for your quick response! Do you offer a profit margin calculator in any of your Etsy shops and a video that teaches us how to use it?
I have a spreadsheet version that I make available in my Patreon member resources (a Google Drive with templates and other things I’ve created to help with POD). It works just like other ones, the only difference is I also have other tabs in it for tracking income/expenses, etc. I actually use it in my recent sweatshirt comparison video: ruclips.net/video/QeaRG_r5Myc/видео.html There’s also a calculator on EtsyHunt.com - it’s completely free and I always recommend it so people don’t feel like they need to spend money on one if they don’t want to 😊
Great question! I primarily do sweatshirts because the profit margins are so much higher. If I have a design that is selling really well or if a customer requests them I will also add a hoodie or a tshirt version. I will say that I have recently been experimenting with Comfort Colors tshirts. They’re considered more premium and therefore have a higher margin than standard tshirts, and those have been doing pretty well for me recently too. But sweatshirts are definitely my majority 😊
In the beginning it’s far from passive (like any good business), but once multiple products start moving and selling I didn’t have to spend much time on it at all other than monitor orders. I took a month off from doing anything other than that in my primary shop after the holidays and I still got consistent sales. That being said, I personally choose to keep designing and adding listings at least once a week (largely because it’s also a huge creative outlet for me that I thoroughly enjoy). Hope that helps! 😊
So to confirm the numbers, from Oct 2022 to March 2023 if we minus all the fees, gross profit would be approx $30K for 5 months? Is that correct? (based on profit margin of 20-30%)
I opened the shop at the end of May 2022 and then scaled to the 700 listings by October-ish. I was getting sales from the beginning though so the $100k revenue (and subsequent $30k profit) was over the course of those 10 months. The largest portion was definitely during Q4, as is the case for a large majority of Etsy shops. Hope that helps! 😊
Started it at the end of May 2022, goal was as many listings as possible by Q4 - my biggest volume of sales was definitely in Q4 and it’s been steady since 😊
@@studiomdesignsco I have a store with 500 listings. Sweatshirts, Hoodies, Tshirts and i have got only 350 sales in total. The store was opened in December of 2022. What things i dont do and i havent big success yet?
Hi Mandy. I wonder if I can also sell print on demand mugs or tshirts here in South Africa and use Printify? What do you think? Thank you for sharing your experience. I didn't create a shop yet but I will do it soon. Thank you
You advocate to have a store with more than one niche in it (organized into sections), correct? I've heard both sides of the coin on this one. I have a wedding niche shop currently but would like also like to sell small business templates. If I section them out do you think I can put them in the same shop? (great video...thank you!)
I think it’s fine to have a shop with multiple niches (one of mine is a general shop like that), and niche-specific shops are great too (like your wedding one). I think it’s about moreso about looking at which strategy works best for what you want to sell and using it as a direction for your shop. That being said, if your entire wedding shop is physical products I would be slightly hesitant about adding unrelated small business digital templates to it. There’s technically nothing wrong with it, it might just be more challenging to get them seen in organic searches since your shop is likely bringing in a specific target audience in a different niche. You could certainly try it though if you didn’t want to go to the trouble of starting another shop - it won’t hurt anything - just make sure you set clear policies for digital vs physical and make sure it’s crystal clear in the listing 😊
@@studiomdesignsco Thank you so much, Mandy. Everything I'm supplying is digital although I do want to start listing PoD items. Thank you for taking the time to reply! I'll have to give it more of a think. I'm about to start a wedding niche site (blog, info, etc) so I can direct traffic to the shop so...we'll see I guess.
I do! I have several actually :) On a computer I use separate browsers so that I don't have to constantly log in and out between accounts. On a mobile device with the Etsy Seller app I simply switch between accounts :)
I started my Etsy Shop in October of 2022. It's now July 2023 and I only have 194 sells. I wish I could see the success that everyone else seems to have 😢
It’s not too late! Use a platform like eRank to look at data on what customers are actually searching for, research the marketplace to understand what’s selling and trends (check out my Research video from last week), and then use your shop data to see where you can leverage items that are already selling 💜
Thanks Mandy for sharing your strategy. I am on the same route actually, 167 listings so far with a wide net. If I saw right on that brief graph it looked like it didnt happen much until June in your shop?
Awesome! Yes, my early designs were pretty general and I ended up pivoting pretty quickly to designing with specific audiences (niches) in mind. I also turned on Etsy ads to start getting more data from traffic. Those early adjustments really helped! 😊
I have 5 shops 🤓 You need to use a different email for each of them, but you can use the same bank account and payment info. You may run into the temporary deactivation as a new shop (they’re bots do it randomly sometimes) and you just need to appeal it, but it won’t effect your other shop. The only time all of your shops can get totally shut down all at once is if you get permanently kicked off Etsy.
Do you have the video on personalization? I been too scared to do that..I looked at the description and couldn't find the video and scrolled through your video section didn't find that video
Sorry for any confusion! The links pop up during the video and it’s part of the course modules 😅 Here’s the direct link: ruclips.net/video/42wvSPfIJRc/видео.html
When I first started I had them all on, let them run for a solid 30-45 days to get enough data, and then would start adjusting along the way (like turning off ads for listings that weren’t performing). I actually repeated this strategy for the newer shop that I show on my channel and at one point 60% of my sales were coming from ads. They can definitely work when done effectively! 😊
That’s fair! By the time I got to that day where I sold 91 items in one day I did not have a payment reserve in Etsy, which means I can have my payments set up to be daily deposits from Etsy (money coming in) and I run all of my expenses on a business credit card to keep everything in one spot (money going out). So essentially all of the Printify charges hit my credit card so that there were no production delays, and then I was paying it off with my Etsy deposits in my bank account right away so that it didn’t build up 😊
@SimplyPOD with Mandy thanks for the reply. How long did it take for the payment reserve to lift. That part is super frustrating...mostly for my money focused husband 😆😁
It sounds scarier than it actually is - essentially it can last for up to 90 days to ensure that you’re a legit business selling items and not fraudulent. However, Etsy still releases the funds from orders to you once an order is marked as shipped with tracking, so in most cases you’re still getting weekly deposits since Printify providers generally ship in a few days at the most 🤓
This was such an informative video Mandy, thank you! I just stumbled across it as well and subscribed:) I read through all the comments in case someone had already asked but I’m clear! haha Did you start your store and begin email list building along with a shopify store, or is all that unnecessary when just starting out? Gurus suggest building an email list but I haven’t started the Etsy store yet and want to be sure I start it correctly instead of being sorry later. If you did connect to an email platform, which one do you use? Thanks so much:)
Email lists are definitely a great idea! If you want to keep things super simple, I recommend AWeber. It's not the fanciest platform by any means, but it's the only platform that has a direct integration with your Etsy orders (you can get to it from your Etsy shop on a computer under the Integrations tab). You don't even have to be prepared to send anything right away, it's moreso just about building the list so that it's there and ready whenever you want to use it down the road. The Traffic video in my course playlist on my channel talks about it a little bit more :) ruclips.net/video/6oS--UCNwsI/видео.html
@@studiomdesignsco thank you so much! I really appreciate you answering my question. I will definitely check out that video as well. Wishing you continuous success on Etsy!
I think it can be helpful if you have the time to put it into it and be consistent on it, but definitely not a must. None of my POD shops have social media accounts 😊
Hello, very nice video, i learned a lot of things from this video. I don't understand something however. 5 months, 150 days and 700 listings? That's like 4 - 5 listings per day. I am afraid to go past 1 listing per day because my shop is new and I only have like 11 listings. Did you have any problems with Etsy for posting that amount of listings per day? Or it's completely safe? Thank you again for the information!
I’ve got free shipping currently with one of my shops and I build in the shipping costs in the prices. My main shop I actually recently turned off full free shipping and instead changed everything to the $35+ free shipping as an experiment. I lowered my prices slightly and anything under $35 is $4 shipping. Shockingly I’ve seen a decent increase in orders. A lot of people end up spending more just to get the free shipping, so my overall order values and profit have increased. It’s very interesting! 🤓
@@studiomdesignsco Interesting! thought about doing the same but with the $35 free shipping guaranteed I thought it will eat into my profits. Are you having that issue at all? So are all your items with shipping? Or just shirts?
My primary shop is mostly sweatshirts, I’ve always built in a healthy profit margin so that shipping was covered along with the ability to run sales. I still profit on average $10-$15 per sale 😊
Sorry, I keep asking questions... But out of all the POD folks I follow I like your transparency and all the value you share. And for your sweatshirts are there over the 35 threshold so ppl get free shipping or under but they still pay for shipping.
No worries! Prices are actually a mix, I’m one of the odd ducks that sets my prices by margin % in Printify, not $. So they are a range - basic white sweatshirts are typically the lowest and land under $35, and they go up from there depending on size/color (and I only go up to 3xl). I typically have mine set around 68% in Printify as the default and then I play around with and can adjust down prices using daily sales (it’s easier than trying to change prices all the time). I like to sell colored sweatshirts and this was the best way that I found to not completely lose money on those while still being competitive. Yes it looks a little weird to have things appear at different prices, but I still get plenty of sales while still getting to make a decent profit 😊
Not at all! Just don’t start with Halloween 😉 I highly recommend evergreen (non-seasonal) designs and niches to build off of, and then incorporate some holiday themes as you establish those specific target customers (think: hobbies, professions, travel destinations, etc)
@@studiomdesignsco I'm in the health and fitness niche. Recently opened an ecommerce store selling kitchenware targeting meal preppers so maybe I can add totes, mugs and sweatshirt designs.
When you have the slowest internet in the world, even if you make 100 listings per day, you can't upload them all, if every design takes like 20 minutes to upload... I'm happy if i upload 3 per day at that rate, because at the process of uploading, i can't do anything else on my PC that has to do with internet, because everything is lagging way too much. Even opening a website, takes like forever, and i just can't stand it...
Absolutely true, and I literally said that in the video that you don’t have to. This was an experiment that I chose to explore and it happened to work out successfully based on specific strategies I used. 👍🏼
These are just initial business expenses Ric which are actually very cheap compared to other business models. Can you imagine what they would be if you were to open a high st shop to sell your apparel. Try not to get caught up on the initial expenses and think big. Your focus needs to be on the end goal and approach the business with a positive constructive mind set💪
I didn’t get a ton of momentum until I did better research on target customers (niches) and got very intentional with designs and keyword strategies. Definitely took some trial and error 🤓
@@studiomdesignsco ya what does that even mean…I went from 0 to 350 listings in 2 1/2 months. One sale. One!!! And I have asked for opinions of other people of what the they thought of my designs, of my store 😢 it’s exhausting. I have some views everyday. No sales. I look at many other shops or listings that aren’t great but have tons of sales. And I have to be honest. @@murdm13 She said she made roughly 20-30k profit in a little over a year. Noone said 21k/month. It's impossible for people to tell you why your shop isn't doing good. It's design, mockup quality, trendyness, overall attractiveness of products, listing language, shop name, SEO, etc. There's a ton of factors. Just keep doing homework and see why you're not doing well. Tbh it sounds like it might either just be that you need to be more patient, or that your designs/mockups/etc aren't attractive to Etsy buyers. Not everyone has the same eye for design man.
I can certainly empathize with your frustrations, I know many Etsy sellers have very similar experiences and struggles. There can be lots of factors (niche/target customer, designs, mockups, keywords/SEO) so it’s sometimes difficult to pinpoint, and unfortunately a large volume of listings doesn’t necessarily translate to sales. Give yourself a moment to pause in creating new listings, give yourself a mental break from it, and then go in and evaluate what you have. Burnout is a very real thing, so sometimes taking a week or more off will give you a fresh set of eyes. 🤣 1000 listings? No wonder you’re not getting sales, you need to make it look like it’s homemade and small business. You need 20+ stores in different niche with max 50 products each store. Run ads to gain momentum.
Mandy thanks a lot for your video! Its first time I saw you here and definitely your video make sense! Thanks a lot! I want to ask you about ads. I have almost 50 listings at my shop (POD) for now (slowly building my shop). I took etsy ads for 5 listings for minimum price. But it looks it does not make big sense. What daily price for etsy ads would you recommend for me? And should I put all my listings on etsy ads? And also maybe you could give me some advice - my search stats is almost 0 !!! I use erank searching for right keywords, listen a lot of videos about SEO, but I dont understand why I dont have search results. Thank you in advance!
It can take time to get some initial momentum depending on how new your shop is. I turned on ads initially at $30/day (you only pay for ads when someone clicks, so you definitely aren’t spending that $30 in the beginning, that’s just the cap that I set). Definitely make sure that you’re confident with your designs and keywords first though. If you’re not getting any views that means your listings aren’t being seen, which means they’re not showing up in search results. That usually comes down to your keywords and using keywords with higher search volume and in a lower competition niche. This video has some additional tips too for when you’re not seeing results: ruclips.net/video/JhWQZgglcsY/видео.html

I really loved your interview and so I came over here and have been hooked to your videos, just like hers! :D Thanks for the content, and it makes starting my store a LOT easier with all these tid bits you guys give us. ♥ Keep killing it! Thank you!! Inspiring!! Im
On 70 listings, no sales yet but learning loads.
@@studiomdesignsco do you still do well with selling sweatshirts in the summer?

She says in the video that she created a general shop---many diff items
My primary shop that I started last year is general, meaning it has a variety of different niches within it - but I do try to get specific with the niches that are in there vs just having generic designs that aren't target to a specific audience. The shop that I built to show in my RUclips videos is a much more niche shop though so that I could use that as an example as well. I personally prefer general shops because I like having the variety of options for designing vs focusing on one specific type (but that's just a personal designing preference - there are lots of very niche shops that are successful out there!).
@@studiomdesignsco Thanks a lot

Great video. Thanks!
I like your strategy of batch task. I’m starting to do research with keywords and design ideas. Then put all the assets I have onto Canva and when I have the time I can just pull up Canva to just design. also when I’m on the go I can design on iPad little at a time.
Sounds like a great process! 😊
Hey mandy! how much did you spend on etsy ads to gather data?
This video was very informative and helpful. Do you need an LLC to open a print on demand business?
Not at all, many sellers simply start as a sole proprietor which is perfectly fine :)
Quick question on that 100k what was the approximate ad spend? When you said you are maintaining a 20-30% profit that is after the ad spend as well?
When you talk about profit are you also adding taxes into that?
Hi! Glad to find your channel! New to POD and wondering if you have any videos on the customer service side of things? Just got my first order and want to make sure I do things right from the start. Thanks! Great video👍
Congrats on your first order, that’s so exciting! 🎉🎉
I’ll include a link below to one of my course modules that touches a bit on customer service.
Here’s that link - let me know if you run into any specific questions:

Hi Mandy what sort of sales were you getting in the run up to q4?
Hello! Thank you for all the information, may I ask do you sell to specific countries or do you offer your services to all countries?
I only sell to the U.S. and Canada so that I don’t have to worry about customs, VAT taxes, etc 😊
@@studiomdesignsco great! Thank you!
You are also a big time hustler!
I hope this is a good thing! 😊
Mandy, when you open your new pet shop for teaching purposes did you have to wait fifteen days before you could run etsy ads?
No, I could use them immediately 😊
@@studiomdesignsco interesting they must have change the rules
I actually use it in my recent sweatshirt comparison video:
ruclips.net/video/QeaRG_r5Myc/видео.html
There’s also a calculator on EtsyHunt.com - it’s completely free and I always recommend it so people don’t feel like they need to spend money on one if they don’t want to 😊
And just joined your Patreon, as well!
Thank you for video. This helped me a lot. I’m not sure if I missed it. Did you sell 1 kind of pod products? Was it just tshirts, sweaters or both?
Great question! I primarily do sweatshirts because the profit margins are so much higher. If I have a design that is selling really well or if a customer requests them I will also add a hoodie or a tshirt version. I will say that I have recently been experimenting with Comfort Colors tshirts. They’re considered more premium and therefore have a higher margin than standard tshirts, and those have been doing pretty well for me recently too. But sweatshirts are definitely my majority 😊
@@studiomdesignsco ok thanks so much for replying.
Do you consider Etsy a passive income that you can set once and forget -or do you still need to interact with it frequently like time-for-sale jobs?
In the beginning it’s far from passive (like any good business), but once multiple products start moving and selling I didn’t have to spend much time on it at all other than monitor orders. I took a month off from doing anything other than that in my primary shop after the holidays and I still got consistent sales. That being said, I personally choose to keep designing and adding listings at least once a week (largely because it’s also a huge creative outlet for me that I thoroughly enjoy). Hope that helps! 😊
@@studiomdesignsco Thanks for your answer, good luck with your further business!
how do you price correctly? this is what i struggle with
So to confirm the numbers, from Oct 2022 to March 2023 if we minus all the fees, gross profit would be approx $30K for 5 months? Is that correct? (based on profit margin of 20-30%)
I opened the shop at the end of May 2022 and then scaled to the 700 listings by October-ish. I was getting sales from the beginning though so the $100k revenue (and subsequent $30k profit) was over the course of those 10 months. The largest portion was definitely during Q4, as is the case for a large majority of Etsy shops. Hope that helps! 😊
@@studiomdesignsco thank you Mandy :)

Hi Mandy. I wonder if I can also sell print on demand mugs or tshirts here in South Africa and use Printify? What do you think? Thank you for sharing your experience. I didn't create a shop yet but I will do it soon. Thank you
As far as I know you should be able to! Printify is a global platform and has printing partners all over the world :)
Hi. Do you have more than 1 Etsy shop, If so How do you manage the listings?

Hello, do you start a second shop? Will etsty deactivate your primary account or do you have to use different information.

How do u interpret this data
When you started running ads did you have them on for all of your listings or only the ones that were already selling organically?
When I first started I had them all on, let them run for a solid 30-45 days to get enough data, and then would start adjusting along the way (like turning off ads for listings that weren’t performing). I actually repeated this strategy for the newer shop that I show on my channel and at one point 60% of my sales were coming from ads. They can definitely work when done effectively! 😊
@@studiomdesignsco Thank you
@@studiomdesignsco how much money daily in ads?
One thing that worries me is growing too fast and having a day like yours of 91 listing, then having all those credit card charges!!
However, Etsy still releases the funds from orders to you once an order is marked as shipped with tracking, so in most cases you’re still getting weekly deposits since Printify providers generally ship in a few days at the most 🤓
Can I ask, why my listing didnt show up in etsy, even if it was published. I always use print on demand by printify. Can you help me pls.
Sometimes it can take awhile to show up in Etsy. If it’s still not working after several hours definitely check with Printify support 😊
Your link for 40 free listings is not working. Could you please provide me another link?
It should work unless you already have started opening a shop: etsy.me/3kq6FX0

It’s completely safe and definitely add more! I’ve had days where I’ve done 20+ listings (and I know sellers that do more than that) 😊
@@studiomdesignsco Thank you very much for the fast reply. I appreciate it!
Happy to help! 😊
can this work in canada
Yes! I’ve had several Canadians in my membership group, you just have to make sure pricing gets set up correctly (due to conversion) 😊
Another question do you offer free shipping or charge for it?
Is to late to join POD on etsy for Q4
Not at all! Just don’t start with Halloween 😉 I highly recommend evergreen (non-seasonal) designs and niches to build off of, and then incorporate some holiday themes as you establish those specific target customers (think: hobbies, professions, travel destinations, etc)

Bad idea. That's $140 in listing fees.
Starting a business costs money, this was intentional. I made 6 figures in less than 10 months. 👍🏼
@@studiomdesignsco Too many listings. You can start with 100 and see what works.
@@studiomdesignscowhat were you mostly selling
i did over 900 in less than 2 months...28 sales and everything just STOPPED
I didn’t get a ton of momentum until I did better research on target customers (niches) and got very intentional with designs and keyword strategies. Definitely took some trial and error 🤓
@@studiomdesignsco ya what does that even mean…I went from 0 to 350 listings in 2 1/2 months. One sale. One!!! And I have asked for opinions of other people of what the they thought of my designs, of my store 😢 it’s exhausting. I have some views everyday. No sales. I look at many other shops or listings that aren’t great but have tons of sales. And I have to be honest. No one works harder than me…I work two jobs, 7 days a week….I have done all these listings from 6pm-2am 7 days a week. So I am working over 100 hours a week…with no return I am so frustrated and exhausted. And to constantly see RUclips videos saying sell mugs make 21,000 a month, sell tshirts, make 1000 a day. It’s frustrating. Sorry for venting. But I’m one of the few that have put in the work with no return😢 yes I have used erank….I’ve tried to look at other successful listings to use similar keywords….etc….etc…etc…. Any help could be appreciated. For me to get similar sales as you would be life changing
Hang in there 💚
@@studiomdesignsco I'm working on doing multiple listings instead now, so I can see if that helps my numbers to start crawling back up again...Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.🥰-April
🤣 1000 listings? No wonder you’re not getting sales, you need to make it look like it’s homemade and small business. You need 20+ stores in different niche with max 50 products each store. Run ads to gain momentum.
Your information is valuable, but mix it up with examples. Staring at a head for minutes on end is so exhausting. Almost no one does that anymore.
@@studiomdesignsco thank you so much for taking time to write to me and explain! This is very helpful! Thank you Mandy!
