The paper size difference is due to metric/us imperial system. Standard paper for US 8" x 11" where A4 is 210mm x 297mm. I suspect that those countries also using it, get their paper from the US. :)
Concerning lactose intolerance: Environmental uses of milk leads to natural bacterial biomes which actually process the lactose before it reaches the human stomach. Mongolia and Tibet are very good examples. As these people leave traditional villages for urban areas, they lose the ability to appreciate milk.
it blew my mind when i found out Nordic countries drink more coffee than the US up until recently i drank 12 cups a day. hard to believe someone can drink more than that
If you read Stieg Larsson books, the characters drink coffee all the time. The books would be 10% shorter if all the coffee references were removed. Lol
Yes, Brighton Beach, New York even has Cyrillic signage because of such a large Russian population. Sacramento California also has such a larger Russian population, that the police department employs many Russian speaking officers. I live in New Jersey where the Russian author, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was exiled. There are many Russians here in this country.
Florida is the 3rd most populated state. They actually underperform on GDP relative to the population. My ethnicity is Polish, Ukrainian, and Croatian, and they all immigrated to Pennsylvania initially after passing through Ellis Island, so that immigration map by % is pretty accurate for my family.
The color coding for the outlets map are there because they represent the ungrounded and grounded outlet variations. For instance, the two pronged Type A is ungrounded and the three pronged Type B is grounded. While you can find devices with either the Type A or Type B plug, outlets are almost exclusively Type B today. Older homes might feature some Type A outlets still. You can insert a Type A or Type B plug into a Type B outlet, but only a Type A plug into a Type A outlet.
Kyle, "the Geography King" made a very interesting video delineating the regions of the U.S. (New England, the South, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, etc.) that you might find interesting. It's such a large country with so much geographic diversity, from tropical to arctic, ha!
Florida's biggest industry is tourism. Retirees also provide a significant sized industry, and going along with that, healthcare has a huge presence in Florida. South Florida is thought of as the gateway between North and South America. There is a very large military presence in Florida as well.
Interesting that even some scientific papers - not to mention the NHS website! - talk about lactose intolerance as a "deficiency" or "genetic defect." Until relatively recently, maybe 15 K years, it was the default state of the entire human population and still is for most, except those descended from the sites on that map where the mutation for lactose tolerance developed in groups that already kept cattle. The nutritional advantage is obvious.
Utah had a large influx of English converts to Mormonism in the 19th century. New England and New York and the rest of the east coast have had successive waves of new immigrants since their founding.
Utah is known for having some of the best looking people in the country, so congrats to our British ancestry. My origins are just over 65% from England.
Always love seeing more general knowledge. Alot germans fled germany during all the wars of europe too south america in the past 3 centuries hence why that one state in brazil made a bit of a influence
Florida has at least two major theme parks; Disney World and all its holdings, Universal Studios and all its holdings ,I belive they have a huge Aquatic park of some kind, they are connected to many of the United States cruise ports...there are lots of reasons for Florida to be ranked high on such as thus one. This is all pretty interesting though.
The Russian one would be HIGHLY deceptive because during the big influx of Eastern European immigrants pre-ww1, much of what is today Poland, Ukraine, or Baltics was just Russian Empire land. Like how my Great Great Grandpa is listed on census as a Russian immigrant but he's Polish.
The lactose intolerance map makes sense not to include the Americas, as most people except the Native Americans ancestors would come from the regions shown in the map. And the Native Americans would be greatly outnumbered in a map & the rest would a mix of ancestries from the areas already mapped. Making mapping the Americas that way pointless.
The British plug is over engineered with too many options and safety features, while the American is under engineered and can use an upgrade if it wasn’t so expensive.
More random information about the platypus: they can only been found in seven zoos, six of which are in Australia. San Diego is the only zoo outside Australia to house platypus.
(1:54) It continues to amaze me that none of the British RUclipsrs I follow, yourself included, have invested in a really good (or even a crappy) insulated mug for your tea!!! 🤨As an American, I cannot imagine letting my coffee get cold, to the point where I would nuke it rather than drink it cold.
Then US uses inches, so 8.5 x 11 in paper. Nice easy numbers. The UK uses metric so 210mm x 297mm which are also nice easy numbers. However, neither of these paper sizes are nice numbers when translated into their sibling measurement system. So imperial has it’s own paper size and metric has its own.
There are only three countries on that planet that still use the outdated imperial system: USA, Myanmar and Liberia. The latter two use metric in everyday life. Maybe it’s time for the US to change it‘s system. The same goes for temperature.
Most people are able to digest lactose as children, but lose the ability to digest it when they become adults. A genetic variation common in northern Europe allows people to digest lactose as adults. There's a theory that this is related to the limited sunlight during winter in that part of the world. Sunlight helps the body produce vitamin D, which helps with the absorption of dietary calcium. If the body doesn't produce as much vitamin D, it's necessary to consume more calcium-rich foods to make up the difference. Milk is very high in calcium, so keeping the ability to digest it in adulthood allows one to consume it (and the calcium it contains).
I always hated the GDP map because it only tells part of the story. All of those light blue states in the middle are agricultural states. Not much in the way of GDP, but they are the "meat and potatoes" of the U.S.
Actually the British gave the tea drinking habit to the Arabs. It then spread throughout the Muslim World. Turkey is a Muslim Country. Remember the Ottoman Turks?
New york actually has Little Odesa and Brighton Beach which is the largest population of Russian immigrants outside Russia itself. Located in Brooklyn near Coney Island proper (as in the amusement area). Its nice just exactly like Russia just sometimes too much so like in the service at restaurants is exactly the same IE it takes forever to get food but you really should not complain against a guy like 6 foot 7 in built like brick house and will drive your head into a wall if he could. pretty much Russian restaurants have a waiter like that and honestly don't complain as you will suffer if you complain. Just watch your back as the Russian mob tends to do business in restaurants like that. just watch for a table full of men wearing suits and talking quietly and not caring what is around them. that's your cue to get out fast. the Italian mob tends to have a room in the Back where business is handled but also eat in peace.
@2:40 everyone thinks oranges but Florida's economy is very diverse, agriculture in general but citrus is the big one, then you have tons of cattle and horse farms (race horses). Fishing is a huge industry (you are never more than like 60miles from the ocean anywhere in the state. We have cape Canaveral where we launch everything into space which is a big boost to the economy. We have a large banking and insurance sector as well. And then the one everyone talks about tourism. Between the beaches, amusement parks and rather unique national/state parks you can do just about anything but climb a mountain(our highest point is like 300feet lol). If Florida was a country we would be 15th in GDP. About as big as Mexico.
Re: the Brazil map Why did the map maker lump together indigenous and African populations together? That seems remarkably odd. One set had been there for at least 10,000 years. The other brought as slaves by European colonizers. Two very different sets. Extremely odd choice.
Using Gross GDP as way of showing "richest" states is incorrect, your better off using GDP per Capita. Florida largest industry is tourism, which accounts for nearly 110 billion dollars,

I was thinking the same thing. They're very close but I think it just comes down to the unit of measurements we go by.
Interesting that it is 297mm. Why not 300?

Florida exports a lot of Agricultural products... like Orange Juice.
The lactose intolerance map is very suspect. It didn't just miss the Americas, it also missed Mongolia in its survey. (it's on the map, but no dots).

The map that claimed that Canada used letter size for maps. However, as I’m a Canadian , the maps I’ve seen are on landscape orientated paper.

I‘m lactose intolerant. I consider myself as the human default setting. 😉

New York has a huge number of recent immigrants (last 30 years) from Russia, so not surprised that New York was superimposed on Russia in the map.

Many Russian Jews immigrated to New York (to escape persecution?). This may contribute to the high percentage of the NY population.
