It's not all that exciting. The yellow filter is a carbon filter. The blue filter is a Reverse Osmosis filter. The green filter is an activated carbon filter, which is basically what you get in a Brita or Pur unit that attaches to your sink. The green filter also has the option to add minerals to the water, but is more expensive than the option without minerals.
@@chrisu7022 $100 for all three (don't know if that includes shipping). Slightly more if you want a version of the green carbon filter that adds minerals back into the water after filtering. Also, the filters last for varying amounts of use. I believe the blue and green filters last 600 gallons, while the yellow lasts for 1000. Oh, the unit is also $450-$470, BTW.
I'll save you the time and tell you, yes, it will filter "salty water", but no, it will not filter seawater. Seawater is filtered using basically the exact same process as this unit. However, this unit doesn't produce the pressure required (800 psi or so) to purify seawater. You need this insane amount of pressure because seawater has a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) value of 10k-45k mg/L. "Salty water," aka Brackish (found in areas where the sea and a river meet), has a TDS value of 1.5k-10k mg/L. If you did put seawater in this thing, it would clog up within a few seconds.
@@rodafowa1279 wow that was an awesome explanation, thank you. But I still want to see him try it lol and by salt water, I do mean sea water hahaha let it get clogged after one go lol
The machine isn't "clogged", the water pump is not working. Putting air through them damages them, so putting carbonated liquids in it caused air build up in the pump, which killed it. Most water pumps need liquid in them to keep them cooled, which air doesn't do, so it overheats.
Or that particular filter element which he couldn't change is clogged as that element is the membrane. The machine is a reverse osmosis machine and those membranes can clog fast with the amount of stuff he was putting into it. Of course like you said he could have also damaged the pump.
@@Tony-pq3xv yeah reverse osmosis is great, but the whole point is that you want to filter out all the big crap before it gets to the RO filter with cheaper ones (carbon/paper etc).
I suspect it struggled with the alcohol for a similar reason. Each stroke of the pump would be vaporizing some of the alcohol, maybe not enough to damage it directly but certainly enough to reduce efficiency and slow the process down
I actually think that Tyler is correct. RO membranes can “foul” relatively easily. They are designed for tap water and like to operate at certain pH levels and dissolved solids levels. At some point the ro backwash becomes less effective and chemical cleaning is necessary.
As an average person who has had mostly bad experiences with tequila, I though it was a good way to make use of it instead of just pouring it down the drain. 😅

My organic chocolate machine juice let’s see if I can filter the water out of that the flaps extra loose so when you get a cup full, it’s all or nothing
RO membrane is making most of the work here. Distinguish from other kind of RO filter is that it recirculates the waste side of the membrane to the unfiltered side of liquid. As the unfiltered side becomes too concentrated, the membrane slows down in filtering and comes to a halt. The mountain dew probably has a very high concentration of sugar and hence only allow such little water to pass through before the unfiltered side become too concentrated for it to work. You will realise despite not producing the water anymore from mountain dew but its colour still clears up a bit on the unfiltered side as the liquid passes by through activate carbon and pass by the RO membrane. RO= reverse osmosis
The pump might have also burnt out. If the pump was pumping only air from the carbonation for too long, the pump might have overheated and stopped working.
