Altec 601C Duplex Speaker Demonstration, Part 1 of 2
Pierce demonstrates the wonderful sound of the Altec 601C Duplex coaxial two-way speakers. The audio from this droid-phone video does great injustice to the wonderful sound of these speakers, but at the very least it is apparent that they are perfectly functional. To be honest, they sound great.
To provide a makeshift enclosure, Pierce has propped one speaker in a box upside-down, and we are hearing the woofer from that one, and the tweeter from the other one . . . You'll see what I mean in the video. I'll upload next the video where we have switched the two 601C's places, and listen to the tweeter of the other one, and the woofer of the other one. As is apparent from these two videos, these are in perfect working order.

I wanted a pair ALTEC 601-C since I was 13 years old. Found a brand new unopened pair at Orange County Speaker for $175 each (1975 dollars). & made custom spkr boxes like the Altec STONEHENGE series. After all the work.... My IDIOT daughter and her stoner friend Piper jacked up the loudness /power on my Marantz 250 solid state amp: BLEW OUT BOTH tweeters. No replacements available. She said, "Oh, well they were old anyway." Current eBay price for working 601-C 12" coax is $800. Thank YOU deanna

I have a 601C that is mounted in an Altec cabinet with the X-over. The x-over didn't work so I hooked it up direct and played it softly for about two days and it blew?? Very odd. Impedance was correct too. So I have a 601C sitting here not working. What would you say blew if both tweeter and 12"' blew simultaneously? I've rewound many speakers as a guitar player blowing 30 watt Celestions with my Marshalls, Sound City, and Hi-Watt amps pushing them. What am I looking at here? How remove tweeter?

Uses a Microphone diaphragm? I dont think so..
