    Thanks for the video. ❤
If you have access to several amplifiers.
Then a DSP for active crossover is sound quality superior to any passive crossover regardless price.
    Full stop 🛑.
And also undoubtedly cheaper plus more precise and exact. Without any limitations. 💯💵
Doing passive crossovers is in comparison a very dumb place to place a crossover sound quality wise in a system. 😮
The only HUGE positive thing a passive crossover has is CONVINCE. 😅
(Byt we audiophiles are not into that when sound quality is a higher priority.)
All you need is a measuring microphone and REW. With your active/DSP and amplifiers. 🎉😅

In the last month I've modified the XOs in my speakers to overcome some poor choices in the original design. It's frustrating (two steps forward one step back) but has now come to a successful conclusion. I use SPICE to model the XO changes followed by listening tests. I noticed a couple of things regarding your Altecs: Do the woofer & access panels have gaskets? Foam lining is not highly regarded, have your tried teased BAF wadding? If the horn is diecast, it can ring like a bell, have you tried damping material glued to the horn? HTH
Have you seen Joseph Crowe's YT channel, he's into horn design, I believe it will be of interest to you. Cheers!

Most audio posted on social media is highly compressed and not properly equalized (sometimes intentionally), to make use of a limited frequency range.
What you heard in this video appears closer to a balanced ideal (even after being contorted by the various conversions affected when posting audio to RUclips), hence the smoother, more pleasing sound.
      Or so I surmise.

I don't want to be a know-it-all, I've already commented on your main video on the Altec 19 the xover. I made a point about the old capacitors. On the new Xover you can clearly see that they are all MKP types, polypropylene. Your old original caps are 99% likely to be MKT types, so polyester.
There are threads in the Klipsch forum where Roy Delgado himself discusses this topic with us. If a xover was developed back then with polyester types then it has a very specific impedance curve. It was taken into account that the polyester types have a high ESR at low frequencies, e.g. 200 Hz. This is a relevant factor for the circuit and the overall impedance...even if this capacitor is only used at 800 Hz, for example. In the Klipsch forum some people report that they use replacement xovers from e.g. Bob Crites. Bob had used Sonicaps, which are polypropylene types with lower ESR at low frequencies than the original MKT caps. I also had a Bob Crites xover in my 1977 LaScala. I wondered about the metallic sound, the bad timing and the thin bass. I put all the blame on the old speakers. Then I followed Roy Delgado's advice and replaced the caps with polyester types, just like they used to be. Of course I used new MKTs, which you can get from Kemet, Nichicon and other manufacturers. What can I say! The horns sounded super natural and smooth again, the metallic scratchiness in the sound was gone. This has to do with the fact that the "Q" value decreases as the ESR increases. This makes the xover less stiff, which is very beneficial for the midrange horns. At the same time, the bass was deeper, fuller and super balanced again with lively timing. A sound like from a single source. I see that you intuitively raised the pot volume of the lower freq. to compensate for the thinner sound. But believe me, keep your new freq. crossover but give polyester caps a chance. Roy Delgado still does it today on the latest Heritage models, like AL5 AK6 especially since they basically still use the same old squaker horn K401 in the LaScala and the Khorn (which is a good thing). Klipsch doesn't do it for cost reasons but because it matches the original sound. PwK used motor run caps in oil back then from Aerovox, but they were also polyester types. Try it out, you're doing yourself a favor, otherwise the Altec 19 will sound too sterile in the long run, and eventually you'll lose the fun of it and you won't know why. An alternative to the polyester types which will keep the right ESR would be paper in oil types e.g. old Sowjet types or new very expensive ones.

Thank you very much for this precious input which I support. The problem is that one of my crossovers has problems so they need replacement. As specified in the video these are just for fun. The true high-quality crossovers, which should be objectively superior to the old ones is still to arrived since they are handmade by an ALTEC expert. Stay tuned!

@@anadialog I am very interested to hear how you experience the custom-made xover from the Altec expert. I'd be curious to know what types of caps he uses, and whether he'll be rebuilding the original crossover or using a different circuit. I'm looking forward to you making a new video about your sound experience with the new crossover👍

On a non-sarcastic note, the information you provided may prove highly valuable to my collection of audio data, as I plan to build a (relatively) small 2-way horn system some time this year, and decided to go the analogue crossover route in lieu of a miniDSP (which I will dedicate to the subwoofer xover).
      Thank You.
