    After following the over-arcing narrative that's told throughout the album, starting with Ben committing suicide, followed by him trying to talk to his grieving mom but she isn't able hear him, then getting upset when she moves on, and finally deciding to release carbon monoxide into the house so he can talk to her one last time (with Danny Brown rapping from the perspective of the carbon monoxide??) i'll admit that i fucking cried. this album really hit me in a unique way and i am insanely impressed and moved by what Quadeca has been able to make. he should be so proud of this project and i can't wait to hear what he has in store for the future

  • @mattskinner846

    It seems apparent that Fantano didn’t connect as deeply with the narrative of the project as many of us do. I feel like the sound of cassini’s division is super appropriate in context-he’s willingly surrendering himself to the infinite void, which, despite being the only way to end his purgatory, is fucking scary. It feels right that truly letting go of your whole life would include some emotional purging. The progression of sobbing into the static build is a sobering (but ultimately relieving) depiction of Ben finally transcending his human form. Surrendering his last bit of humanhood to infinite nothingness.

I feel like he spent 90% of the time talking about the production and singing and barely mentioned the lyrics and theme of the album. I feel like one of Fantano's complaints about many albums is that they feel like a collection of tracks rather than a themed album, and this album is so well themed and cohesive that it deserves some credit for that, which he didnt give. Cassinis division was one of my favourite tracks, i think it had the strongest identity, it had a function in the album that no other song could really occupy, which is not the case for sme tracks on the first half, as good as they may be, they are not so easy to distinguish from one another. The weird noises sample that loops through the beginning of the track seems weird at first but actually works really well at building atmosphere imo. It was really creative to pull off a track like this from what elements can be found in it. I do agree with the fact that the spoken word passage isnt exceptionally captivating, and that the piano arpeggios are redundant, but for what its worth i think the 'unflattering' aspect of the crying make this track evoking of strong emotions and more hard hitting, like the feeling you get when someone you know is crying

      @EyesDontCry Год назад +1

      @@AdityaKumar-xu6ug yeah I felt that too, it was a really well thought out character which expands on the concept of the previous record massively, but I feel fantano has little care for the profundity most others are experiencing.
      I feel the movie is an integral part of the listening experience and I would suspect fantano didn't watch it as he didn't even mention it, I don't blame the man as he is very busy to look at new music all the time, he probably didn't even consider watching it.
      But regardless of if he did or not, I do understand many of his criticisms, It was just shocking to not see an 8 after the description he had, and that's why I think he didn't watch the movie aswell as his own enjoyment obviously being lower than most.
      In spite of all of this, we still love this album and its only his job to review it critically, if anything a score like this is helpful as we know quadeca takes criticism honestly and hopefully he can improve even further, but I personally wouldn't ask that from him right now, he poured his soul into this and definately needs to keep himself healthy first before even thinking about committing as much as he did on this record to another 👍

    Brief explanation of idmthy:
    The character of the album is a version of Quadeca who follows through on taking his own life. He was stuck in a life he felt was not worth living and he became fascinated by the idea of not existing so he took his own life. To his surprise he ascends into a ghostly form of himself and quickly begins to regret his decision. He watches over his family as they move on from his death and he becomes desperate to communicate with them as he feels like he is being forgotten. In a moment of weakness and selfishness, he sets off a carbon monoxide leak with the hopes of his mother being able to see him in the hallucinations. This attempt to communicate failed and he almost ended up killing his mother. He is overwhelmed with guilt, loneliness, and the idea of being forgotten causing him to have a panic attack. After calming down, he reflects on the moments leading up to his suicide with a newfound perspective gaining some amount of closure. “let me go but don’t let go of me”. He is then able to enter the void and become consumed by static as he achieves his original goal of not existing. Only this time he wishes he could be alive with his loved ones.

I understand it references the line about cutting to static, but the impact of cassini's division isn't how good of a song it is, it's about how the story finally ends with quadeca finally moving on to the afterlife.

In reality he would just start sniffing the air and wandering down the side of the road for close to 30 minutes at a time before coming back with determination in his eyes and driving another couple of miles.
