My monastic father of blessed memory taught me from this book and recommended that I read it at least twice per year. Honestly, it’s literally a new book each time ! There’s so much there that you can learning something new each re-read. ☦️

...Pilgrim is a Christian classic. I read it first many years ago and I still re-visit it every year. It's also the reason I pray the Jesus Prayer daily. Thanks for this video. Great to see the book getting some love. Peace be with you.

This book takes me to a previous life as a Russian Orthodox monk. At that time I got a lesson that I keep in my heart ever since - Life is all about God. Have a wonderful day and give it a try.

I love this book. I am right now reading the Philokalia. The Jesus prayer is now a my daily thing. I started reading the Philokalia and started to pray the Jesus prayer during the lent. I started waking up earlier and I'm not quitting. The last lent was the best so far and the decisions regarding the prayer were the best I ever made. Very good video! Keep up the good work.

@@SearchingTheArchives It's great. I am reading Vol. 1 (of 5). I read it very slowly - soon I will finish it. It really gives more understanding to Jesus prayer. The first thing that had a WOW effect on me is when St. John Cassian explains that everyone has a goal and a purpose. He asks two young monks why are they monks and they reply "Because of the Kingdom of Heaven" (I'm translating from Slovenian). He tells them. You told me your goal. But what is your purpose (to attain the Goal in the end). They told him that they do not know. He tells them. Kingdom of Heaven is our goal. The purpose is purity of heart. This may seem vague and not important. But if you think about it (and read), there is a real treasure hidden in this words. Heaven is something that may seem very far away. Our final goal we are trying to achive. But if we only look at something so distant, we may get lukewarm and sleepy and then we start to fall and not walk straight towards the goal. The purpose is a tiny goal, that is attainable with each decision we make. Something like a compass, that tells us with a slight movement of ourselves, if we are still walking towards the main goal, or if we made a slight movement in the wrong direction. We can then very easily fix this small movement, before it's a big mess and that is done through the Jesus prayer, or Rosary. The thing is. We all want to get to heaven, but if this is only a generic wish, then that's that, but if we try to act like that and make steps towards heaven with every action in our life, then that is something much more profound. If you win small battles, you're not risking loosing big wars. Jesus prayer is really a good tool to help in this regard. Hard to explain. The book is full of such gems. And they make sense, because you can try them out in like every moment.
      I HIGHLY recommend it.

This is tremendous insight. It's like we're balancing on a giant exercise ball, and if we don't actively work towards our goal (take little steps) then we will fall off! Thank you for sharing!

Reading it with Derek Cummins at A Dose of Theosis~ your video is helpful to reinforce what I’m learning. Commenter PhobosAmomaly’s insight was so helpful, too, about purity of heart☀️

Exactly, our prayer ropes are made with 9 crosses on each bead, the way st. Anthony made them. They are not Rosaries. I would never read a Catholic book. It's funny, Catholics read Orthodox books and think they are interchangable with Roman Books.
