it's amazing how the song encapsulates the whole situation, it's Lotus singing trying to cancel out the void tongue lulling the victims to give in and in the meantime you can hear the year 1999 creeping in , in the distance.
I love that they confirm this lorewise too, I love this game so much, they put so much care into it, it’s so good
And also, the two other female voices in harmony that pop in to complement the lead melody.

the ringtone is the melody for 'this is what you are' but sped up reversed and each note being the same length and shifted up.

HOLY SHIT i thought it felt oddly familiar. That is insane levels of detail design. Keith Power, George Spanos and the rest of the music team are just beyond comparison.

For what little music there is, it’s pretty nice what they’ve done with it. My favorite little note is how when the drifter and the operator get to Lotus, the children’s choir responds to her singing in the background.
Short quest but great. The sound design was pure brilliance.
When in 1999 during the quest the longer you stand away from the cat the louder the whispers become and the shadows grow making the environment darker. It gives a genuine encroaching foreboding feeling.

At this point I feel like that one clip of Leo DiCaprio in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood whenever Warframe drops a track referencing This Is What You Are

Was such a good prologue ngl, from the presentation to the music. All just solid for where the story is rn.
It is mentioned in the lore that it is indeed the Lotus herself singing in order to drown out the voice in the Void trying to possess her. When you first arrive at the Sanctum, the singing itself is directional and coming from where Lotus is standing.
I just completed the new war quest. Wow. Just wow.

The quest is short, yes (unbelievably short even, by prologue standards) but the new theme and a sudden resurgence in using 'This is What You Are' brings me some anticipation of what'll come in the new Koumei update and 1999.

For me the most interesting thing about this music is who is actually singing it. The singing is stylised as sung by an untrained voice (at least at the beginning, later that vibrato caught me off guard) with a ton of nasal resonance. Plus those aspirated vowels in Sanctum Anatomica - I have a strong feeling that this could be Rebecca Ford actually singing (at least in the Sanctum Anatomica)

In my play through, he was in void mode and I was able to see the outlines.
But hey, if he's invisible even to the player, then might even call it a feature instead of bug (even if "unintended", DE's fav word)
It's not a bug the Drifter was using void mode. if you have dark energy color you will not be able to see the outline.
@MEYH3M you literally see nothing - it is a bug, dark energy or not.

DE really said "Why not combine every single motif we had for the Lotus into one package and then ramp up the tension?"

I picked the third option for operator, and I was very pleasently surprised how Raven delivered the frantic panic. I was also amused that the little pager was in Lotus' hands. It has been there since the area was added... chiming, waiting to be picked up.
And drifters first dialogue fits with the operators third dialogue

If u talked to loid in the sanctum after he confirms lotus is trying to drown out the void song, and if u talk to her again she says she'll stand watch over us centuries again if needed this was short but such a good quest
You can put the phone in your orbitor as well as a decoration and interact with it when placed

@IntrusiveThoughts838 that's weird. Try deleting it and placing it again, maybe. It doesn't do much anyway. It just zooms into it and says no messages, dunno if that will change closer to release
It also had a new message when yesterday's hotfix and nightwave launched.

The singing reminded me of the singing they did live at tennocon before the Main event happened. I know this because I was there in person.
A short but meaningful quest, if you had Margulis or Any of the skin that shows lotus face, you could actually see the fear she has when holding the pager, 1999 is going to be something!

i like how they turned call of the void into a literall phone call.. shes standing at the cliff edge hearing the call but makes you answer.
I love the way that 'This is what you are' has evolved over time. From the original, to the lonely cry of a child for their mother, to the exaltation of her recovery, to this. I cant help but feel that the backing vocals are still 'us' just now more mature. Its still the Tenno's Anthem.

Last time I experienced something like this, staying still listening the intro music and logo, is from Ac Rogue. Listening to that theme song and the logo of assassin's and templar switching. Really hits home.
Really getting a "There's a storm coming" impression out of this music. Appropriate, given this is a prologue quest for what is, by all accounts, going to be an apocalyptic confrontation with Wally.
fun lil thing to do if you want to crush your soul into tiny, tiny pieces - go to sanctum anatomica after this quest. she's still there, and she has some things to say.
as soon as i heard lotus singing i don't know why but its like someone was cutting onions right next to me every time.
Go back to Lotus at some point and she has several lines of dialogue that she will go through while standing nearby

I legitimately got chills booting up for the first time after this update. And sure, "This Is What You Are" tends to do that, but hearing it interrupted and distorted... well it got me ready lock in for a serious fight to guard Lotus.
The song almost makes me feel like Lotus is fucking tired of things happening to us and to her, it's almost like she's ready to send us to attack the fuckers

What surprised me more: Warframe 1999 is still this year AND we get Warframe Koumei and the Five Fates before that as well!

Look up where the lotus is standing
I assumed the twist was lotus is basically 3 minds in 1 body hence the song
To me, the whole song is a power struggle between the Indifference, and Lotus. Singing back and forth in a endless battle, a lullably for her children, versus the call of extreme power. Its also reinforced in the quest itself, when we arrive at the lab, the song we all know and love, This Is What You Are, is being sung in a weaker tone compared to what we know, and what's heard in the login menu. Shes weakening, shes tired, she can't fight the call (a figurative sense of the void tongue, and a literal sense in Entrati's Phone) for much longer, until we arrive, and reinforce Lotus's resolve, child and champion.
I remember the first time I became aware of Warframe, and it was pre-plains of eidolon and pre-second dream, and it was more or less just a battle game about robots. Who'd have expected that that project back then would completely blossom out into this insanely high tier world building. The music in Warframe is probably in the top end of best game music I've ever heard, to the point that it's a fantastic example of games being a story telling medium.

That throat singing makes this even more interesting than what it was already. There’s something ceremonial about it, it’s very heroic.
I am reminded of Assassins Creed and how the main character would discover their lineage and purpose, obtaining some kind of power from a relic. It takes you on a journey of what has been and will be. 😁

I just opened Warframe when starting this vid and our opening beats were competing with each other and it sounded super trippy.
The dynamic between Operator and Drifter is a strange one. Think Schrödinger's Cat, but the cat is neither dead nor living inside, or perhaps it is both? Two possibilities, two outcomes, brought to coexist within the same universe.
Make sure to place in your orbiter the pager you get from the end-of-quest inbox message. I have a feeling that whatever WF 1999 ends up being will probably kick off with us interacting with it.

Also, the Last Battle is an absolute banger. Love your work, man!

@@MarcoMeatball Don't you cry at me, we're the superior generation. Grew up with all of the tech through all of its evolution. No tech now is new, just iterations on what we already know, smaller and more compact versions. Heck, we've even seen the invention of jet packs.

Well, Albrecht Entrati TRULY IS the monster he's being depicted as here. Canonically, he is, for all intents and purposes, THE BEST inventor and architect of his age, a literal genius, reknown, (and feared just as much,) by even the Orokin Empire. His last recording before literally time traveling was bro admitting that he wanted to, "fix," the timeline. And after enough DBZ, you know it'll ruin EVERYTHING, the factions, the history of the setting, he'll destroy it all, if he wins.
As far as we've seen, the Albrecht that went back was a good man. He meant well, but the Indifference followed him, and took his mind. He's an avatar for the Indifference now, from what I understand.

Warframe just cant make music for an mmo, they just have to make each and every song need a mastclass to fully comprehend the sheer depth and composition of its masterpiece, god this game could be an idle clicker and i'd still keep playing for the music
