Really like the review guys I have owned this car for long time now and love it. I am a Audi, BMW, and Merc buyer that got peeled away to buick. price/performance is off the charts. Especially when you add a trifecta tune which gets you up to 290hp and 0-60 5.5 for only a few hundred bucks. I looked at Audi S3 over the weekend and I cant justify 20K more for the audi badge and a little more performance. S3 as tested was 48k 292hp and 0-60 4.3
Larry Bronaugh I picked up a 2015 Regal GS in the red color like in this video last Sept. Found it at my dealer with a little less than 29k. So far I really love it. Been driving a manual Mitsubishi for the previous 5+ years. Grew out of that “stick shift” phase and just wanted a nice 4 door automatic sedan. So far so good for me. Very nice quiet ride and when I need it to move I simply step on the gas and it takes off. Little bit of turbo lag but once it kicks in it does push your head against the headrest.
Understanding this is now a 5 year old video - Is the Regal GS a performance bargain? I've wanted one since they came out. I'm now in a position to buy a certified used 2017. Does this car still hold up as a fun daily driver? How is the reliability?
I just purchased a NEW, fully loaded 2013 Regal GS from a dealer who had it sitting on his lot for a full 2 years without being able to sell it. It seems the problem was the car had a 6-speed manual transmission and no one in southern California wanted to buy it. As a result, a $40,000 sticker price car was sold to me for $23,000. Having owned a bit of everything (German, domestic, Japanese) during my 30 year driving career I can honestly say this reminds me of a German sedan as well it should since it was designed and originally built in Germany. My sticker says this one was built in Canada but the manual trans was sourced in Germany. Terrific car--270 HP, 295 LB. FT. torque with 3 suspension settings. No disappointments so far and you can't get a stripped Civic in LA for $23K. The sad thing is, manual transmissions are dying and may become extinct with my generation. Sigh.
Yes, a manual in a Buick does not sit well with many on either end of the spectrum. sportier car or smooth riding traditional Buick. Buick is ( Including the Iconic 1987 Buick Grand National) is one of those car brands that has a conflicting identity. Is is a value mainstream brand or is it Luxury? Is it aggressive looking or is it conservative? Its not the best at either, but is good at both.
I know some people don't care for the styling, as is the case with every car ever made, but I freaking love the styling of this Regal GS! I really like the interior as well. With 270 HP / 295 LBFT, this GS is pretty quick for a 4 banger. I know it trapped over 97 mph through the 1/4 mile in one test. I do wish it had a limited slip diff being it's FWD, but at least the tires are pretty wide at 255 mm with the 20" wheels. The GS stops from 60 mph in less than 110 feet with it's Brembo brakes, and rips around the skid pad at over .90G (Avg) which is also really good. I like that you can choose which transmission you want for this car. Personally, I'd be all over the 6 speed manual, but I bet the 6 speed auto is just as fast, if not faster with it's better 3.23 gearing I believe it is? I think the manual is only 2.73 or 2.77? Sorry, I read about this car back in early 2012 so I forgot many of the details. Anyway, I paused the video about half way through, but so far I really like the review. Thanks guys.
CJM'79 Bought a leftover 2014 Regal GS FWD 6 speed manual with every available option. I couldn't be happier! Especially now that it has a Trifecta Tune and a Green Air Filter so far. I'm looking to go with a BOV, a 3" exhaust system and a Limited Slip Diff- if I can find one, in the near future.
The "triple port hole" that they got rid of signified that it had a V6 engine. Its more rare but the V8's have 4 "port holes" per side. Now it has restyled port holes but there is only two of them. Because it is a 4 cylinder engine now
The 2014 updates were much needed and an absolute nice touch to the car's overall feel. AWD is now available and it is impressive. The only problem I have with it is the engine. Only one? Even for the more performance oriented model? How about this: VVT, SIDI, IVVL, and VTM 1.6t I4 with 205HP and 215-225LB-FT 2.8t V6 with 330HP and 340-355LB-FT 9-Speed Automatic 6-Speed Manual
Smaller displacement will mean lower top end power and torque. The 2.0l is small enough, and their lucky to get as much torque as it has. And a 9spd will probably have reliability and shift point issues.
Carlos A. As I have already told you, turbochargers usually have maximum output in high end situations. Plus VTM will overboost to 225LB-FT or 355LB-FT under heavy acceleration. GM will have to implement VGA into the 9-Speed which won't be a problem because if Chrysler can do it, GM (the king of transmissions) will make it even better. There's no such thing as luck, it's called hard work and strong engine internals.
Yes, turbos can have high output in high end situations, however, in the long run, a larger displacement turbo engine will have more power and torque. Plus on such a big sedan, a smaller displacement wouldnt suit it well. For the regal, 2.0 is about as small as it can get. Yeah, I believe GM can do it, but theres nothing wrong with the transmissions they have now.
Carlos A. That's where you are wrong. That's why turbochargers were invented; to help out in high end of thing's. With the CAFE Regulations coming, you can't have a large displacement. The 6-Speed Automatic's and Manual's are outdated and will likely disintegrate within the automotive industry during the next couple of years. GM can get 400+HP out of their 2.0t, of course you can put a 290HP/300-315LB-FT 2.0t in the Impala (which will ride on the lighter E2XX platform soon).
Yes, turbos do improve output. However, there is a limit to that output when the displacement is so little. They may be outdated, however, there is nothing wrong with them. Gm could indeed put 500hp in a 4cyl of they wanted to, but they choose not to so the engine doesnt face reliability issues such as blown gaskets, or cracked cylinder walls. A small engine block such as the one on a 2.0l engine, couldnt handle 400+ horsepower for long.
Agreed! The car was first launched in 6 speed only and we got a couple of laps on a track in that version. However, by the time we got one from the press fleet for our shoot, they'd traded it out for the just released Automatic...thus, we had the Auto.
Yes, of course this is an Opel overseas - and we are thrilled that US carmakers are bringing good foreign models to the US. We included Opel Insignia in the tags because we know it's taken from that car. But we focus on cars sold in the US and their place in the US market... thus, the guys must discuss this car as a Buick. We'd love the have the V6 AWD version that is available elsewhere, but this is the version of the car (and the nameplate) we have in the US.
Since Opel is owned by GM, the statement you mention can be argued as correct. You are welcome to not agree with how we did this review, and we welcome and appreciate your commentary. We also hope you'll watch more of our work to get a broader sense of what we do - we never please everyone, but getting discussion going is part of the point. Thanks for watching and commenting.
hello everdaydriver, i'm a subscriber. i would like 20 seconds of your future videos to be dedicated on the daily commute. Because that is how we drive our cars 95% of the time.
Todd talks about the "tactility" of RWD, not practicality. Yes, RWD in the snow can definitely be a challenge, but a full set of snow tires are key even for AWD. Thanks for watching and commenting on our work!
Between now and the end of the year we'll post: Golf R, WRX, and EvoX MR. Then our annual FAQ episode, so if you've got a question about the show, let us know! And lots of really fun stuff coming together for 2013!
I'll agree with Everyday Driver...I'm thrilled. What's more, I own this car, and the car I traded it for was a 2011 3 series. Guarantee you wasn't as nice as this GS. Furthermore, I think Buick has every right in the world to bring their Opel here. It's THEIR care, they can bring it here if they like and call it a Buick. Their company, their rules. I'm cool with it.
This car has very competitive pricing when compared with Audi, BMW, and Lexus. Many people will not give it a chance simply because of the badge on it. This is exactly why GM does not invest much in the American market.

don'r get review, have you ever driven a turbo before? when you have a turbo there is a delay in the boost, 1st and 2nd will always be slow, sling shot it out of 3rd and you'll feel the power kick in.
it's weird that people are saying gm copied the opel when opel is owned by gm, they can put any car any where they want under any badge just like holden and chevy share all the same vehicles and all these vehicles are designed by gm not a specific brand
Did you actually look at the numbers from that comparo? Like the skid pad, braking, figure 8, 0-60, dimensions and price? The GS should have been no less than 4th in that comparo (based on the size, it didn't belong there in the first place). That article was rather BS...I prefer C&D to MotorTrend anyway.
Based on the comments, I am surprised Paul only gave 2.5 and Todd 3. I was expecting the reverse actually. Sounded like Paul enjoyed this car much more.

Not impressed. Need to put in a 3.8 V6 turbo & awd then name it T-type or Turbo-T. Better yet, GM should take the Holden Commodore (new Chevy SS) and drop in the Turbo V6 coming in the new CTS. Would make for a contemporary Grand National.
That is one of my biggest pet peeves! I hate when people say that Honda's and Toyota's are American because they are built here. Just because they are built here doesn't make them American, they still are from the companies founded in Japan! Therefore, they are still foreign and our money goes to Japan! In that same comparison they ranked the Volvo s60 T5 as second. I'm not buying that for a second! The Volvo T5 is very comparable the Regal GS in my opinion. If it was the T6 r design, yes, but not the T5.
Your point becomes valid and respectable when you realize Opel and GM are the same company, and Opel has been under GM since 1929. So was the car designed by GM? Yes. Their Opel division. I'm failing to see the problem here.
Greatness in China translates to mediocrity in America. Motor Trend ranked this car last in a comparison of eight sport sedans for a reason. That alone tells me all i need to know about how good this car is.
Yeah i have. The outcome is what it is. Buick has no place trying to do what Cadillac is doing. It can't even do what Buick is doing. All it's good for competing against is Lincoln.
Please kill this line and bring back the affordable power of pontiacs. Americans are power hungry. Leave the Luxury to the european fancies. Leave the cheepo-eco boxes to the thrifty asians.

There's a manual for sale around me for 18k with 67k miles. I offered him around 16k for it but no luck. He hasn't dropped the price in forever.
Yea it sucks manual is dying cant stop change but hey atleast you can still have fun rowing gears

GS stands for Gran Sport. Its not just a bunch of random letters thrown together to look cool, it actually means somthing
Good job as always.. Whats the next car you guys reviewing?
I think it should also be available in the same config as the Insignia OPC using AWD and maybe the V6 engine with 325 HP.
That'd be sweet!
IT is available with 4 weeldrive and 6 cil 360 HP (up to 560hp) in Holland by Opel insignia OPC look IT up type that name
for anyone that owns one of these, was there ever a reprogram or reflash for the transmission delay problem? From GM or a dealership
That is by far the best looking modern Buick. Very good looking car! If only it were RWD
I thoroughly enjoy this car and could see myself owning one someday
Opel isignia - 2.8 L v6 -325hp with the 6 speed manual!
Do you have the 2 L turbo diesel eco-flex in America
The head rest seems to be not touching your head...are seats small or you guys tall ??

GREAT REVIEW
Hmm is this a Vauxhall Insignia with an Astra VXR engine by any chance? Cause it sure looks like it.
How would you guys compare this to a full-tilt boogie Maxima?
Nice review, guys! I've owned a Cadillac CTS, and now have an Infiniti G37x. This car would make me consider GM again (as will the ATS.)
Can yall do a review on the Mazda6 and Chevy impala

love this car!
98 Regal owner. I will upgrade to a 2013 Regal Turbo Soon!
I wish they released it like Insignia OPC with 2.8 turbo and awd
I need to test drive this

Doesn't GM own Opel?
my first car is a buick so I've become a bit of a buick fanboy, this is my next car
I love it
GS mod is the best settings
Doesn't the instrument cluster change color when I'm gs mode?
What you have to realise is that this car was originally designed to be global vehicle. It was already made to be sold as a Buick because this is what it was sold as in China before the American debut. Rebadging only makes sense for a multi-brand auto cooperation because launching a new brand is more expensive than swapping for a badge that is already popular in a particular region. I also hate it but it's all about making money in this day and age.
Nice review, would have been even better with the 6-spd!... now GM just needs a Cruze SS!
If it had more power, id concider getting the AWD version. I'm not trading in my Camaro SS for a 4cyl.
Those cars could not be more dissimilar.
why Buicks come with 3.8 Lt engine when they are small sedans? GM should have come up with gas efficient cars in order to compete in the market.
I would revel in having an adjustable suspension!
It 'started' it's life,in Europe,as Opel/Vauxhall Insignia
Call it opel insignia car wich is from 2 years in Europe :)
The Regal should have these engines:
(8 spd Auto)
(Regal Trim) A 1.1L Twin Turbo I3 iVLC start/stop with 176HP and 215TQ. 27 mpg City / 38 mpg Hwy
(Premium l Trim) A 2.5L I4 iVLC eAssist, regen. braking and start/stop with 202HP and 191TQ. 29 mpg City / 44 mpg Hwy
(Premium ll Trim) A 2.0L Turbo I4 iVLC with 259HP and 295TQ. 24 mpg City / 31 mpg Hwy
Not all of it would fit:
Now let's see them bring the gnx back in all its glory
I prefer bringing back the GSX.
hey look! EveryMonthDriver posted a video
Great video !!! As a
I have to laugh at the people who are "mad" that this is a mildly reworked Opel and not a real BUICK. They clearly have no understanding of the automotive industry and how it works. I mean look at the Acura TSX--it's the euopean Accord!!
Its all what you want. I drive a Legacy 3.6R. About the same money. I guess people love looks and accessories.
why oh why did they style the taillights where the clear is the brake light? So much red plastic realestate for PROPER brake lights or even LED lights!!!!
Too bad the review starts with "this car is available in a manual, but we don't have one"
In that same comparison they ranked the Volvo s60 T5 as second. I'm not buying that for a second! The Volvo T5 is very comparable the Regal GS in my opinion. If it was the T6 r design, yes, but not the T5.
Oh look, it's an Opel!
I think Opel Insignia looks better
I'm 35. I own this car. I'd like to think I'm not a near grave grandpa lol.
Your point becomes valid and respectable when you realize Opel and GM are the same company, and Opel has been under GM since 1929. So was the car designed by GM? Yes. Their Opel division. I'm failing to see the problem here.
opel Astra OPC , gm bring to US, hopefully they will when Ford brings the Focus Rs to us
Greatness in China translates to mediocrity in America. Motor Trend ranked this car last in a comparison of eight sport sedans for a reason. That alone tells me all i need to know about how good this car is.
looks like Acura TL, very nice for american!
Why the fuck did nobody mention that this is actually Opel Insignia body and interior.. nearly everything looks the same.
You Opel Insignia people need to calm down, it's like you've never seen a car be rebadged before...
And 4wd
So?
GS just isnt a fun combination of letters, it doesnt sound sporty at all, there should definitely be a X,Z,R, in there to liven things up.
Yeah i have. The outcome is what it is. Buick has no place trying to do what Cadillac is doing. It can't even do what Buick is doing. All it's good for competing against is Lincoln.
I want it!!! Can someone please buy me one?
it's not that hard with a set of snows.
Please kill this line and bring back the affordable power of pontiacs. Americans are power hungry. Leave the Luxury to the european fancies. Leave the cheepo-eco boxes to the thrifty asians.
And you have a lot of back cringing to do. lol. Opel has been owned by GM since 1929. This isn't a new development. lol.
Opel is owned by GM you know...
