buddies op! I'm 18 right now and when I used to hate history lessons in my secondary school but I absolutely love this podcast!! the storytelling skills of KV n Biswa are just epic. I wish our teachers taught us history this way and not by reading the plain text in textbooks
Fun Fact : Some of the artefacts of the Harappan Civilisation such as their tokens were also found in some areas of the mesopotamian civilisation and thus it is concluded that either there were some trade relations between these two civilisations or the Harappan (Or the indus valley civilisation) was aan extension of the Mesopotamian civilisation.😱🤐
Old Bricks in Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro cities are still being stolen and smuggled by locals to use in constructions in nearby villages.

South India had trade relations with Rome, through Arikamedu (Pondicherry) which currently holds remnants of a port area and trade related structures (warehouse + mission complex) Records and maps available suggest that that under these ruins, are buried artefacts; It is about an hour away from White Town area.

Also there are surviving documents called the Muziris Papyrus which show contracts of merchants from Roman Egypt who traded in the port of Muziris (near Kodungallur, Kerala) and several Indian ports are described in the Periplus of the Erythrean Sea, a Roman manual for merchants trading in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. Even the Indus Valley Civilization traded with Mesopotamian states. Its crazy that people were traveling and exchanging with others 1000s of miles away well over 2000 years ago.

Loved the episode! Just some feedback on the audio aspect: there seemed to be a high disparity (both in volume and clarity) between yours and KV's audio input. I constantly had to increase and decrease the volume while you and KV switched roles while speaking. I don't mind doing so, but it'd be great if this disparity was nullified. I'm sure other viewers would appreciate it if they came across a similar issue. Again, thanks for the podcasts and hope to see more of these :)

One important fact I'd like to add is , there was no trace of horses found since a long time.. but some years ago or a decade ago horse bones were found in near SURKOTADA
Yeah I saw this documentary about Sinnauli. It says we had horses but with different breed the modern horses might indeed have come from Arab but we had a different specie with different number of rib cage bone and few other differences. And those were great weight carrier and not for riding so they were generally used in pairs for chariot. So great. And this might even debunk Aryan migration theory

Biswa is that one kid in exams who says that he has not studied anything still shows knowledge everytime, KV is the kid who will revise and clear all your doubts 2 mins before exam

if he wants to visit Lothal civilization, I recommend going to dholavira too as it quiet new very well preserved than lothal and you get an great perspective about how the drainage system was there and also they had dam built in dholavira at that era..
so recommend going there as well (you can go with friends too as it is near to runn of kutuch).
For biswa's question regarding contact with other civilizations :The mesopotamians knew about the harappans very well.excavations in Iraq have yielded harappan seals.the harappans in lothal also sailed( in reasonably sized boats) to Oman and Persian coasts via the Arabian sea near gujarat.

In the Later excavations in Pompeii (ITALY) ,Many utensils ,Toys and many other things From India(Basically from Harrappa ) was been discovered...This showed the close relation India had back then with other countries(civilizations) and how developed it was..
One thing for sure that Indus Valley Civilization was open to everyone for trade. Pompeii itself has huge history, I've always been fascinated.

In the ancient Egyptian texts.. Indus valley civilization is mentioned as Meluha.. and Indus valley civilization had a dockyard so trading with foreign civilization was obviously there.

Regarding Biswa's comment about the link being broken amongst the generations, it was probably due to mass migration caused by the change in the course of erstwhile Saraswati, now the dried up river beds of Ghagra-Hakkar. Other climatic changes also contributed to this mass migration.

Certain aspects of Harappan civilization have likely persisted into present times, signalling continuity in our culture. A few examples:
- Peepul tree worship: many seals show the Peepul leaves alongside deities
- Yoga: seals from Harappan times show deities in yogic postures that we can still recognise today
- Cuisine: they incorporated a lot of familiar items in their diet including coriander, garlic, turmeric, ginger, cumin, cinnamon and sesame oil
- Jewelry: Many contemporary jewelry items may have their origins from Harappan times like bangles, tilak, chains, etc
Apart from this, it is well established that all major pre-historic civilizations of the time had very good trade networks. Harappans were likely know to the Sumerian civilization as "Meluhha".
Biswa sir can you please invite abhijit chavda for a podcast on any of the history topic.... That guy is a goldmine of knowledge

Great video this was.......some knowledge is kind of outdated, no issues. There many ways to update the knowledge. There are many Indian researchers are working on Ancient Indian history etc. These researchers also have thier own podcasts, eg. Abhijit Chavda, Sathology, Sangam talks etc. There are many more. It a rich ocean of knowledge considering our history. Which fills my heart with pride. Great work guys....please continue doing these kind of talks

IVC seals can be found in Mesopotamia and Oman. Mesopotamia had trade relations with people called Meluhha which is mostly associated with the Indus Valley Civilization

It will be great if you guys talk something about Keezhadi in Tamil Nadu (Keezhadi excavation site) which is estimated to be from 600 BC-500 BC but also compared with Indus valley over the architecture.
Saying that its discontinuous is half-right half wrong statement. yes, it may be considered one in terms of recorded history but it is larger theme of Human civilization. We made a breakthrough as we learn to record and transfer our learnings cumulatively to next generations. Why it doesn't exist in recorded history: maybe just not deciphered yet, invasions resulting in end of culture, etc.
Culturally, other than written scripts, there are multiple continuities as in Tribhanga posture figurines, worship of male and female genitalia, same symbols have been observed in South India, lost wax technique, worship of mother goddess etc.
FYI: I am a student of anthropology. Love you both. Try to use term 'Researcher' and not 'scientist'. This is a pseudo science and people in this field consider science to be inherently biased.

IVC had traced in Mesopotamia. Because Mesopotamian seals were found in IVC (Lothal) and IVC seals were found in the Mesopotamian civilization.
The script they used was Boustrophedon.
(Left to right, then right to left.)
They, then, travelled towards the East and settled in the Ganga Plains, where later the Vedic civilization flourished.
Rig veda describes the river sarasvati in full flow and vedas also describe a government chosen by the people which almost proves that vedic period and indus valley (sarasvati civilization) coexisted or were the same.
Only point which confuses me is the lack of similarity between sanskrit and Harappan script
harrapan civilisation was contemprary to mesopotamia civilisation and there are evidences of trade and communication with mesopotamia and dilmun (bahrain known then) and magan (oman) as there are evidences of harrapan jar in magan and omani copper in harappan
