Thank you!! I watched a number of videos on intarsia and nothing made sense like this one did! The instructions were so clear and understandable - even to a complete novice like me!!
Your video absolutely saved me! I’ve been working on a project and have pulled it out seven times because of holes. Watching your video made it possible for me to finish that part of the project without any holes. Thank you thank you thank you!
Agree with many comments - this video clearly demonstrates intarsia. Other videos discouraged me from trying intarsia. Edie is an excellent instructor! Thank you.❤
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!!!! I've been intarsia knitting JUST LIKE THIS since I was six years old. My friend 3,000 miles away wanted to learn how to do intarsia........ EASY PEASY..... I just sent her the link to your site. Thank you!!! Thank you!!!!
You are very good at illustrating the pattern and make it so easy to follow your guideline! Thank you so much for your help to learn this Antarsia design 💖 Happy knitting 😊
Thanks for the video. I’ve not really done any intarsia knitting before and have started a patterned blanket which uses this technique. I have soo many ends after 3 rows as I thought you needed to cut the yarn at each row, but now seeing this, I think I can rectify the holes and make the pattern look nicer from now on!!!
Good grief, your knitting is so pretty and even!!! I would have no idea of the fact that you had to switch yarns and do all of these extra steps. Great work!
You make Intarsia look so easy. I'm amazed that you don't have any loose stitches at the transitions. You don't seem to be pulling them tight, just knitting at regular tension. This goes against all other videos I've seen. Is it true that you aren't doing anything special, other than crossing the yarns, at the transition?
Your video is my big luck. All i just want is a tutorial that can cover the gap btw the 2 colors. It is very helpful and thankful for us to know. Wish you bestwishes💙💙
I decided to take on intarsia without really knowing what was entailed and how confusing it was to do in multiple settings for a dress for my 3 year old. I have some design holes for the first few rows of pattern but your video is going to help me fix that going forward thank you!!
Aula fantástica! Eu sou iniciante e tinha dúvidas nesse tipo de trabalho. Vou ver o vídeo novamente e fazer algo semelhante para aprender! Thank you!😃❤️
I’m new to intarsia & appreciate this clearly explained video. I have a question for which I’ve been unable to find an answer & hope you can help. If the contrasting color on the Purl side (for instance the green in the video) is picked up several stitches out to the side from the last green (knitted) row, that seems to create a float. Is there any way to correct that? Should the float be limited to 5 or less stitches? Thanks very much.
You had said that intarsia is usually used for flat works, but I'm considering it for my color change in the heel of a sock. Would this be a preferred method, or is there something better suited for that?
This is the best instruction on intarsia knitting. Since you are a designer, as a guy, I'm looking for a pattern for a basic sweater (cotton for summer wear) for a man. Any suggestions?
You began the swatch using Continental knitting but changed to British knitting to accomplish the intarsia pattern. Is it not possible to work intarsia in Continental knitting? I ask because I am strongly dominant with Continental and not nearly as deft as a thrower. Your work is lovely and your explanation clear...however, I will keep looking for a completely Continental version of the technique.
If the pattern is a half diamond repeated along the front and back of the sweater, and the the next half diamond at the tip is 11 stitches apart How do you weave it without leaving a long float which would catch on things particularly if the sweater is for a two year old?
Thankyou for this video. Your instructions were so clear and you did everything at an easy pace to follow. Hopefully I’ll get the hang of it with practice 🧶
Exactly! If it's only a few stitches (usually 4 or less) you can use the same ball of yarn, but for something of this size you'll always want to use multiple balls.
Can you please demonstrate how to make those "butterflies" of yarn instead of having bobbins? I used to do it so many years ago and I truly forget the little trick to keep them from unravelling. Thank you.
Hi Monica. I think I basically did Intarsia because of my maple leaf pattern. It turned out OK. I'm still not really comfortable with the Intarsia, but I think it's good to learn it. Depending on the complexity of your Maple Leaf, Intarsia might work best. Good luck with it.
maybe I imissed something but I got confused when to use the yarn on the bobbin or the original working yarn,. for instance the second row are you using the orange bobbin yarn or original yarn,. thanks
You'll know when to use which, because it'll be the "ball" the attached yarn is coming from. Pretend there's a 3rd color. When you Orange-Green-Blue When you flip it over, it'll be Blue-Green-Orange

This video saved my life because I kept having gaps!!! Thank you so much for the crossing 😭😭
I’m just loving how Edie goes from picking to throwing without a shred of doubt. Watching a master here.

Happy knitting 😊
Thank you so much for going slow!!!! Wish every knitting video was as clear as yours! :)
Very helpful! And surprisingly, the first of 3 very popular videos to show how to tie in the ends.
Thank you for this very helpful video. You have explained the intarsia technique better than anyone I have ever seen!
Thank you for this clear, straightforward lesson. Great modeling. I also appreciated your showing how to recognize when you’ve make an oops....super!
Just amazing to see someone go between english & continental knitting so fast!
Good grief, your knitting is so pretty and even!!! I would have no idea of the fact that you had to switch yarns and do all of these extra steps. Great work!

This is so helpful. Thank you for sharing! I'm going to start my first intarsia project now :)
Question: why is it important to use a different ball of yarn or separate yarn? Is just so there won’t be crossing?
Exactly! If it's only a few stitches (usually 4 or less) you can use the same ball of yarn, but for something of this size you'll always want to use multiple balls.
Great, clear video, thank you.
Exactly what I needed thank you so much! Very clear!
Excellent tutorial. Thank you.

Nice
Perfect explanation! Thanks
Great Video! thanks for making this
why do we have to use a completely new ball of yarn?
This is soooo good
Thank you so much. That was interesting. Now to have a go!
Wow when knitting sometimes your yarn is over your left finger sometimes your right.
Regarding my maple leaf question, I'm torn between Intarsia and Fair Isle knitting method, or do I do some of both perhaps?
Mary Algar I'm also trying to make a maple leaf in a blanket. Did you do the far isle method or intarsia? I don't know which one would be best
Hi Monica. I think I basically did Intarsia because of my maple leaf pattern. It turned out OK. I'm still not really comfortable with the Intarsia, but I think it's good to learn it. Depending on the complexity of your Maple Leaf, Intarsia might work best. Good luck with it.

Hi. Can I introduce the new colour on a knit or and a purl row or just the knit row? Thanks for a great video!
Hi Cindy - you CAN introduce a new color on the purl row, but it's much easier to do it form the right side. Good luck!
Thank you so much!
not crossing the yarn every time will make a nice design element, too
Really helpful- thanks! :)
Thank you.
