  • Gorbals Culture Collective presents a vibrant showcase featuring photography and short films, bringing together some of the results from a year-long collaborative, community-based artist residency programme developed by Street Level Photoworks, as part of the National Culture Collective Project.
Lead artist Bash Khan and support artist Stella Rooney have been engaging people across the Gorbals in creative projects that ranged from a collaboration with local school children at the time of COP26 to express their relationship with trees, resulting in an award-winning short film By Leaves We Live, young people exploring their relationship to outdoor spaces through the camera lens in a collaboration with The Barn Youth Centre, street photography reflecting Gorbals Today; a creative social history project engaging residents of The Caley Road Flats, prior to their decant and demolition; and work supporting G5’s Got Talent, shining a spotlight on local talent!
The exhibition is a celebration of the collaborative creativity explored through the residencies and a testimony to people’s resilience and determination in post-pandemic times, alongside exploring the role that artists can have in communities in times of recovery and uncertainty.
Creative Scotland with Scottish Government emergency COVID-19 funds launched the Culture Collective pilot programme in 2020 to support creative practitioners, organisations and communities to work together.
