I suffered a heart attack and 2 open heart surgeries this 2020 year and I can't pick up my 1985 Goldwing anymore, I dropped it after 4 months post-surgery and couldn't, so yesterday I got my MotorBike Jack and I'm practicing pick it up with the jack. I was not able to finish as accidentally I got my bike DROPPED on my left leg and almost broke it, so yesterday and today a lot of muscle and skin pain but no breaks, will pick up my bike both sides at least 10 times in a row before I dare go on the streets. That was my first bike drop in 66 years, I started riding in 1972 with a Yamaha Twin 90cc at the university of texas and then Honda CB when they came out, followed by a Yamaha 650, then 30 years of no riding due to bad vertigo, then it went away, a Pacific PC 800 Honda about 8 years ago and finally my Goldwing. The first one was 1992 1500 and I broke both knees same day I bought it falling from the third floor of my house with my dog in hand; sold it without riding it, lost 1,000.00 in the sale. Then I bought this 1985 GW and I love it and the size is better for me, but now can't pick it up. I may have to sell it but I don't want to, I'm 66 years old and now seems heavier to me but we'll see what happens, I'm sure I may drop it again but with the jack at least I know I'll be able to pick it up myself without having to wait for someone to help me. For the young guys thinking about buying a Goldwing, don't hesitate, do it now. It is a bike for your life.
Did that in my garage right after washing it. Tires were still wet and slippery and garage floor was slick. Wasn't that easy, and I was 30 years younger! :-)
My last big bike was a GSX1100G about five years ago. I never dropped that but I suspect it would have been a lot harder than this as the weight was higher up. I've got a 1200 Ltd in the pipeline once lockdown is over but hopefully I won't need to follow your example...well done.
Hey man good job bc you even did it on wet grass lol :). I’m hoping to buy one soon from a coworker I lift very heavy windows and doors and know my center of gravity so I’m confident now I’ll be able to do it. Also thanks for the kickstand part it’s obvious thing to do but I would’ve forgot 😂
Thanks! You're welcome lol! GoldWings are amazing motorcycles! They are very practical and you can still have a ton of fun on them, don't let the size fool you, they can handle really well.
As a senior by more than 5 years, where I have a problem is picking up the bike on gravel. As soon as my footing slips as you did on the grass, I'm done. Without traction, very easy to hurt something. Advice?
What is it like transitioning to a bike heavy bike like that from a smaller one, any idea? How tall are you and how much do you weigh ? I love the look of the goldwing, but Ive never ridden anything near that heavy. Thanks.
I've ridden lots of bikes, 750 being the biggest, I now have a 1985 Honda goldwing limited edition 1200cc and it weighs 780# and I dropped it on the right side am 60 years old 160# I could not lift it. The drop was at my house so I backed up my car and tied a rope to the rear hand grip for the passenger and to my car and pulled it till the bike was 3/4 of the way up and finished putting it on the side stand my self. Don't know what I would do if in the middle of the street. Lol
well that's the Reality of owning a motorcycle, it WILL fall eventually....better to get it Out of the way, drop it yourself and KNOW what you're in for!!! Better than be embarrassed from dropping it at a traffic light, then on top of that, you Can't get it back up, cause you never practiced!
I just dropped my bike while riding on pee gravel and it ate me up a litttle didn’t hurt the aspencade to much ez fix buh i got that bike up way easier than him and im 5’6” 130 lbs😂
Yea, but unless you have done it you wouldn't know just how hard it really is. I tried after I dropped mine unloading it from a trailer and had to get help. Youth is a wonderful thing. I'm 61 and I could not for the life of me get it righted again. I did do it a few years before. Father time sneaks up on you when you ain't looking.

I am 21 and getting a gold wing, lol glad there are other young guys with one
My husband just turned 19 back in March and just purchased a 1986 Goldwing Aspencade 1200 a couple of days ago
Im currently 21 and also about to buy one, any advice !
getting a 1200 myself ! :D always wanted a goldwing. 25 years old !
Did that in my garage right after washing it. Tires were still wet and slippery and garage floor was slick. Wasn't that easy, and I was 30 years younger! :-)
Nice job my friend! Thank You!
I had to learn this the hard way the other day. Went into a dirt lot (bad idea) and you can guess what happened.

Love the sound of the bike, what mufflers you got.on it?
Pretty ballsy putting a side stand down on grass. I'm surprised it didn't sink into ground and cause the bike to fall over the other way.
Whichever way it falls it can still be picked back up with ease.
cool, but what will you do when the motorcycle falls to the left?
nice technique
It’s a little harder when it falls on the other side, you don’t have the kick stand to rely on.

U have to be macke sure the other side is okay because the grass maud shud solid graund
I have same yr and color bike
Oh that's a 101 how to pick up a bike manoeuvre for countries that don't just let your ride a motorcycle without a motorcycle license.

Your a lot stronger than I am, I can't lift mine.
It's all about technique and leverage.
Do you wear any leather with the bike??
Yes, I wear Rev'It Airwave Armored Jacket (textile), Xelement Leather Riding Pants, Rev'It Leather Gloves and generic Boots. Hawk Bluetooth Helmet as well.

They balance themselves and easy to ride. Takes maybe an hour to get comfortable with it
