@@Clorbman our understanding of what is called Terminal Lucidity isn't terribly clear, but there are a few prevalent theories. The first is based on evidence we've seen from things like radiation poisoning. If the dose is high enough, you feel sick for a few hours, then you are fine for days (or possibly weeks) and then you have a sudden and rapid onset of death because the damage that is done is to the stem cells for either your blood cells and/or your intestines are destroyed, but the already-mature cells continue to function their normal span, dying off as normal but not being replaced because the stem cells are gone, and this is why they feel fine and then suddenly, you're dead. Search "walking ghost phase" if you want more information about this. In similar fashion, your immune system takes a great deal of energy and resources to operate, trying its best to keep you alive. However, in the final stages of dying, the immune system can shut down. Note the CAN, not WILL. Terminal Lucidity seems to occur less than half of the time (around 40% of the time) in the documentation that I found (by all means, search Terminal Lucidity yourself and feel free to to further research). Now, many of the symptoms of us being sick aren't caused by the illness, but the body's reaction TO the illness. Without the immune system trying to destroy the invaders, there's no inflammation response and thus no discomfort. With all that energy no longer being used by the immune system, other systems can use it, and the patient seems to recover for a little while. And then, as suddenly as they "got better," they then pass away. Of course, without conclusive evidence, these hypotheses could easily be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt.
It's called terminal lucidity. My great grandmother (childhood idol, been living with my family and I since I was four) had dementia. This was the worst part of it. She'd just come home from the hospital after breaking both arms, and after a few days, she was able to have dinner with us and watch TV. We really thought she was getting better. I knew she wouldn't come back from this but I couldn't handle the idea of losing her, so I believed she would get better. A week later, she passed away. She was 100, almost 101.

The notion of a flawless marriage or relationship is a myth. There's no set formula for success; what works for one couple may not work for another. Yet, I've discovered that there's always a way forward, even in the most challenging times. Five years ago, my wife and I encountered significant hurdles in our marriage that nearly led to divorce. Despite the adversity, we managed to weather the storm and emerge from it with our bond renewed and revitalised
There is a lot of sense in what you just said and I hope mine works the same way too, we are currently separated but I cant live without her, I love her so much. wish I can get her back I can do anything to have her back, we have tried therapy amongst other things

Op also didn’t tell his brother the truth about their father. Maybe that could have been an extra big wake-up call for his brother. Learning that he’s doing exactly what their father did.
I disagree they just hold on to the anger and that's not going to change anything and instead of trying to help Jake they just disown him I mean they say forgive but it's obvious they don't fell that way
5:50…gave me trauma flashbacks…before my dad passed away (it was unexpected) he called my sister just wanting to hang out, go out to eat, spend time together. She wasn’t able to because of work. He didn’t call me or my other sisters because I was at school and my other sister was at work. He sat for hours with his online friends before passing away. They were the last ones he spoke to. Heard his voice. Everything. Survivors guilt is a horrible feeling…
The OP's decision to not visit his younger brother in the hospital is based on the fact that he wants to put it behind him but maybe visiting him might be the way to really put that chapter behind him and hand his brother the letter and walk away afterwards in the long run for sure.
I get the moms want to not tell her sons qbout their dads gambling addiction. But in the long term it did them a disservice. If they had been informed about their fathers addiction they could better navigate such things in their own lives. Speaking from experience my dad made sure i understood his alcohol addiction after he was clean so i could make better decisions. As a result i dont drjnk at all.
True but that still doesn't take away that if their mother had given them the knowledge of their fathers addiction maybe they would've been more careful about engaging in addicting behaviors that can be destructive long term such as gambling

Yeah, after my father died of prostate cancer, my cousin (that I grew up calling my sister) refinanced my house without my knowledge. We had both been taking care of my dad AND my aunt (her mother) in my home along with my son.since she worked from home, I would give her money for the taxes on the house and utilities and let her pay. Looking back I realize just how gullible I was. She stopped paying on my house and started paying on her own down south. Then she packed up and took my aunt down south with her (supposedly for a visit). She was gone for months, but I’m still holding on to money for the taxes. Then the flood came and the power went out. We were staying warm by keeping the oven open and on as well as all the burners. Heating up water to wash with. We went to the library to charge all of our laptops and phones for the night. And yes we were using hurricane lamps. One day when we came home from the library there was a notice on the door. My cousin had NOT been paying the second mortgage. The house was in foreclosure. Imagine my surprise when I knew it was supposed to be free and clear. I had to take my little boy to a shelter. That was the lowest point of my life. It was rather ironic. I was attending law school and living in a family shelter. What I don’t understand is how do you DO that to someone that you claim to love SO much? Like a sister? I’m not even angry anymore. I just want to understand.

Those words that couldn't be said in person but were brought to a closure with a sincere letter. 🥲
