This was at the top of our shopping list, until the '24 redesign that axed the manual transmission and replaced the HVAC controls with a touch screen. I don't mind tech, but that huge screen takes away all the interior personality. LOVE that it still has mostly analog gauges though!
Working at a Subaru dealership, I'm shocked by how many people are buying this 2.0 engine. It's molasses slow. The rest of the car though is an excellent all-around package.
LOL! The 0-60 video looks like SLO-MO! Went down to look at the '24'Limited and was disappointed that the center console intrudes on my knee/ leg. Why do manufacturers not take into account for this? There was absolutely no reason for the console to be that far in, the transmission well was no where near there and if they took away 2 inches to accommodate people's leg it would have not made any difference to the storage area. BTW I’m only 5'8. UGH! 😕
Lol, I'm 6'4" I have no issues. how in the hell is the center stack interfering. You must be very large. Remember these are considered a subcompact suv
Amazing vehicle. People complain on its lack of power or cvt….I’ll stick with Subaru. If I want something faster I’ll look at a different model. If I need something that is engineered well, off road ready, reliable, safe, fun and can get through most anything….no not Honda…no not Toyota…..Subaru is my choice, as it is with others that are intelligent to nab this beauty
People love to hate CVTs but I am starting to feel they are an improvement over the extremely busy 8 and 10 speed transmissions popular in so many cars today. The 8 speed in my car is very annoying.
I had a rental Mazda and the gear changes annoyed me. It was constantly jerking through it’s sad 6 gears. Everyone hates on CVTs, but they are smooth and quiet. Other than a freeway merge which only last 3 seconds I don’t see why people hate them.
Thank goodness, Subaru brought the temp gauge back (in all trims, I don't know). Also for a safety conscious branding, the new Crosstrek has not improved braking distance, compared to my own previous gen 2020 Impreza. Yes, comparing two different cars but I would have thought that a new generation model would see improvements in braking, yet seems like they used the very similar setup from the previous gen.
So just bought a brand new sport model, paid just under 20 k for it, yes 20 k. 11 k below MSRP, had some hail damage on the roof an some on the hood, I figured it was just to good a deal to pass up. Had to pay cash for it, but that's ok, it just an extra vehicle.

It's an Impreza, but with more ground clearance, that's all. And that's exactly what I need as I live in an area that gets a lot of snow in the winter and streets don't get plowed until the next day AFTER the storm hits.
It's time for me to evaluate CUVs, and I've rely on what I consider the most trusted source. Subby's gas mileage has been most impressive. At 6' tall and long legs, after 8 months I still haven't found a comfortable seating position. My height is also gives me limited viewing thru the gadget filled upper windshield on various hilled curves. The Crosstrek could stand a wider track for on windy days, steering constantly requires correction. Love to be able to turn off the nanny features; with cruise control on and someone moves in front of me, the brakes are applied much too hard, with no account of who may be tailgating. Too often are the brakes applied when driving a left turn and a parked vehicle is detected by the Crosstrek's radar. Backup lamps need greater illumination for night backing. The I-podish center stack and entertainment / dual climate system is stelar. Functionability, cell phone interface, love that I can pause a program for up to a half hour and resume play. Sound is pretty awesome. Short freeway entrance ramps have to be strategized, as the brakes have a great feel, but hi-speed stops seem long. I drive a provided (not mine) '24 Crosstrek and your review is very accurate. The Crosstrek will not make the our list for replacement.
It lacks power between gear shifts I’d say around 3rd or 4th , driving the outback and forester there’s staggering difference in smoothness one topping the other, this is a my-first-car, even till-it-breaks kind of car. its a pretty cramped as for practicality over torrential circumstances it is definitely above standard 👍 but not as smooth as you’d want it to be, it needs a turbo but can become a hazard if tuned too fast because of the ride hide-to-weight, to put it simply they made the safer choice.
I can't stand how they replaced all the interior door handles from silver to black plastic....LIKE REALLY? (except limited), and same black plastic is on the even more expensive Wilderness. Idk why I find that cheapens the door card so much.
Doubtful considering the use a CVT in all their vehicles including heavier ones with more HP and torque. I think they are cutting costs on the engine to keep the price down.
it's just cheaper than actual knobs and buttons. The on/off is via touch screen but it has a consistent spot at the bottom of most of the screens, however, it has physical dual climate heating/cooling, seat warmers and defroster buttons.
Toyota’s Hybrid technology can’t come soon enough to Subaru. Once this has a true hybrid version with better power and efficiency while maintaining a value price, this will be a knockout in the market! I’m truly looking forward to the next redesigned 2025 Forester and Outback models that are rumored to finally have a hybrid version using Toyota Hybrid tech. 👏👏👏. 👍👍👍
That hybrid stuff adds to the cost of the car and the payback periods are very long, it also limits the life of the vehicle when those systems age out and replacement parts become hard to find. I am waiting over a month for an OEM wheel for my 10 year old civic.

The 0-60 stat is completely overrated and irrelevant for how 99.9% people drive cars.
Yeah it only matters to the kids that what to play fast and furious, most adults don’t really care anymore about off the line, been there done that
You never drive a spec sheet………an irrelevant measure.
It’s still a measure that allows one to know how fast a vehicle can accelerate vs the competition.
If you’ve ever had to stop on the side of a highway and get back up to speed you know it’s quite relevant
Some highway on-ramps have lights that require acceleration up to highway speeds from a dead stop. So it is very relevant.
