There are so many beautiful details in this -the captions -JD's drink looks like the poison that killed Heather C. -The picture of JD's mother and him on the swing which leads him to falling to the feet of his father -that actually JD falls into the suitcase at 0:15 -all the people who turn into dust -the bomb at the end This video the animation and the details are wonderful

Lol, the first time I watched the musical I didn't realise how much this song portrays JDs lack of mental stability, so listening to this song now makes me go "wow".
A lot of people are mentioning how he knew Veronica's name, even though he says that he never learned names, and while I know it's a joke and stuff, I still want to say this. The entire point of him saying her name after the "I don't learn names, don't bother with faces" is symbolic. He doesn't usually learn names, because he doesn't usually care. But Veronica left such an impact on him that he did. I doubt he would have remembered Kurt or Ram or Martha or anyone else either, but because they were relevant to Veronica's life he does. The entire thing signifies how much Veronica affected JD, even from the beginning, when he knew very little about her. That little comment puts into perspective how much she meant to him, which explains the blow it was when she rejected him later on because of the suicides. More than that, everything that comes after this would solidify his idea that trying only gets you hurt. The whole thing is really genius and I love that they included that line, because it really makes you realize just how much he cared about Veronica, and why he was willing to do so much for her. Sorry, I just wanted to share my thoughts. This ended up looking more like some analysis you'd get assigned in school, sorry.

Hey, i know i'm like 4 years late, but I wanted to give my take on this. I belive that since JD specifically keeps saying "freeze your brain" and not something about how delicous slushies are, he's using it as another form of self harm. After all, brain freeze can be extremely painful and could be used as a substitute for cutting. JD thinks that it isn't self harm because the only self harm anyone learns about nowadays is from a razor, but that ISN'T true at all. I think that they were already hinting towards his violent tendancies and urges to lash out because (personally) when people get frustrated or anxious, or mad, they can turn to self harm or harming others. This point was trying to show us that even though he hasn't taken out his rage on anyone else yet, he is still in extreme emotional turmoil and is very much a danger to those around him.

I really love how in your animatics you draw in a visual cloud to show the dark thoughts creeping up on JD. Adds a lot more depth to the idea he uses the slushies as a coping mechanism and a temporary reprieve from his life.
Your animatics are always so creative and get the emotion just right. You really made it feel like JD was seriously struggling but continually suppresses it. I love it!

Fun fact! It's not just the nerves. Sure, they get mad because it's cold, but the cold constricts blood vessels. That's why it hurts so much. It's why places that are cold turn blue - there's lower levels of blood flow there. So, yes, a Brain freeze does in fact have an actual effect on the body and blood flow. it fades quick enough to avoid any permanent problems because your mouth is naturally warm and is in a high blood flow area(being that it's in your head), but if it weren't for that it could actually cause damage. That's why cold hurts.

I love the way he was thrown into that suitcase, how the apron and coat and hat were thrown at him, how he reels back at every object but he can't even so much as complain, so he just goes with it. I love how he brushes away the phantom classmate. I love that little flickering foreshadowing at the end. I love your animatics and I regret not clicking on them until now.

I like the way you've done this. The dorky dancing is adorable, and I like how JD just has photos of his mom in his pocket all the time ready to whip em' out and be like "So my mom's dead". He really does need friends. Veronica kind of gives him every opportunity to have a normal conversation, and he just...keeps dumping his emotional issues at her feet, and she just takes it. This is technically emotional abuse - putting her on the spot, making her responsible for his emotions. He doesn't really deal with her emotions later - when she's upset in "Our Love is God", he's more concerned with his plan for a violent revenge he can pretend he's doing for her. I also liked how the smoke just surrounded JD and choked him and almost completely covered him before he managed to shout it out. That's kind of exactly how it is dealing with this kind of depression and stuff. This number is basically "Unhealthy coping skills: The song" - using physical pain to center or dull emotional pain does work, but it doesn't solve the problem and results in escalation as you need more and more pain to hold your psyche in place. Either that, or you need to lash out at others if you're looking for a quick, temporary solution to your suffering.
I was just in the mood for this song the other day :) I really love the manic energy your J.D has. Most draw him as the stereotypical bad boy with a chip on his shoulder. In the musical he's suppose to be fun, an oddball, and happy on the outside with a lot of sadness, pain, and depression that he covers up, and you do a great job of showing that. Awesome Animatic can't wait for the next one :D

God, I love all your animatics, ESPECIALLY the Heathers ones, but THIS ONE. This one always hits all my dopamine buttons. JD watching his younger self, young JD getting tossed in the suitcase and curling up, JD’s dancing turning into a battle against his inner demons, the blue in the slushee echoing the antifreeze that kills Heather, the slushee flashing back and forth between a bomb while JD’s eyes get wild and dangerous, UGH I LOVE IT!!! Your ability to capture just the right amount of movement combined with all the symbolic imagery is truly the work of a highly skilled artist. I admire you so much.

A lot of people are mentioning how he knew Veronica's name, even though he says that he never learned names, and while I know it's a joke and stuff, I still want to say this.
The entire point of him saying her name after the "I don't learn names, don't bother with faces" is symbolic. He doesn't usually learn names, because he doesn't usually care. But Veronica left such an impact on him that he did. I doubt he would have remembered Kurt or Ram or Martha or anyone else either, but because they were relevant to Veronica's life he does. The entire thing signifies how much Veronica affected JD, even from the beginning, when he knew very little about her. That little comment puts into perspective how much she meant to him, which explains the blow it was when she rejected him later on because of the suicides. More than that, everything that comes after this would solidify his idea that trying only gets you hurt. The whole thing is really genius and I love that they included that line, because it really makes you realize just how much he cared about Veronica, and why he was willing to do so much for her.
Sorry, I just wanted to share my thoughts. This ended up looking more like some analysis you'd get assigned in school, sorry.

Hey, i know i'm like 4 years late, but I wanted to give my take on this.
I belive that since JD specifically keeps saying "freeze your brain" and not something about how delicous slushies are, he's using it as another form of self harm. After all, brain freeze can be extremely painful and could be used as a substitute for cutting. JD thinks that it isn't self harm because the only self harm anyone learns about nowadays is from a razor, but that ISN'T true at all. I think that they were already hinting towards his violent tendancies and urges to lash out because (personally) when people get frustrated or anxious, or mad, they can turn to self harm or harming others. This point was trying to show us that even though he hasn't taken out his rage on anyone else yet, he is still in extreme emotional turmoil and is very much a danger to those around him.

Fun fact! It's not just the nerves. Sure, they get mad because it's cold, but the cold constricts blood vessels. That's why it hurts so much. It's why places that are cold turn blue - there's lower levels of blood flow there. So, yes, a Brain freeze does in fact have an actual effect on the body and blood flow.
it fades quick enough to avoid any permanent problems because your mouth is naturally warm and is in a high blood flow area(being that it's in your head), but if it weren't for that it could actually cause damage. That's why cold hurts.

And not only that, I love the way you portrayed JD's description of his childhood, how one scene melts away and reforms into the next one. My personal favourite is the one with his mom. Little JD jumping off the swing and falling splat at his father's feet in an almost pitiful heap was beautiful. I love the way he was thrown into that suitcase, how the apron and coat and hat were thrown at him, how he reels back at every object but he can't even so much as complain, so he just goes with it. I love how he brushes away the phantom classmate. I love that little flickering foreshadowing at the end.

I like the way you've done this. The dorky dancing is adorable, and I like how JD just has photos of his mom in his pocket all the time ready to whip em' out and be like "So my mom's dead". He really does need friends. Veronica kind of gives him every opportunity to have a normal conversation, and he just...keeps dumping his emotional issues at her feet, and she just takes it.
This is technically emotional abuse - putting her on the spot, making her responsible for his emotions. He doesn't really deal with her emotions later - when she's upset in "Our Love is God", he's more concerned with his plan for a violent revenge he can pretend he's doing for her.
I also liked how the smoke just surrounded JD and choked him and almost completely covered him before he managed to shout it out. That's kind of exactly how it is dealing with this kind of depression and stuff. This number is basically "Unhealthy coping skills: The song" - using physical pain to center or dull emotional pain does work, but it doesn't solve the problem and results in escalation as you need more and more pain to hold your psyche in place. Either that, or you need to lash out at others if you're looking for a quick, temporary solution to your suffering.

I was just in the mood for this song the other day :) I really love the manic energy your J.D has. Most draw him as the stereotypical bad boy with a chip on his shoulder. In the musical he's suppose to be fun, an oddball, and happy on the outside with a lot of sadness, pain, and depression that he covers up, and you do a great job of showing that. Awesome Animatic can't wait for the next one :D

JD watching his younger self, young JD getting tossed in the suitcase and curling up, JD’s dancing turning into a battle against his inner demons, the blue in the slushee echoing the antifreeze that kills Heather, the slushee flashing back and forth between a bomb while JD’s eyes get wild and dangerous, UGH I LOVE IT!!! Your ability to capture just the right amount of movement combined with all the symbolic imagery is truly the work of a highly skilled artist. I admire you so much.
the thing about this is if you think about it, it's really sad. 7/11's are everywhere, and with them moving it's hard to find somewhere you feel like you belong.
